15 years ago…. I had my little ones. They were so small, they fit in my hands… I scrolled through baby photos as they were saved to the cloud, but I was in the King’s Court at the moment, waiting for my boar ribs before Session. It was improper to do so…. But he didn’t mind. He silently watched over my shoulder.

The first time they had cake was in here, and the video of them falling into it made me, and the Fifth Seat snort a laugh. It was Kaizen, who Screamed bloody murder while also happy as a clam not wanting to get Out of the sticky situation. It was during that bittersweet time of when Bryson was dead, and it was moments like that that helped me get through it.

Now they were big.

Now they were about the size of a black bear, but I did right by them. They had their litter bond secured.

“I miss when they could fit in a hand.” Said the King suddenly.

“I do too your highness. They were so small…” I smiled at the screen, flipping past photos of them in little outfits mom had gotten. Little sailor suits, a fireman outfit, and even a ballerina outfit for Grace. That one was especially cute. My lady… she did a little spin in the video because Uncle Connor had some chicken.

The Omegas came with the grilled ribs I ordered, but they smelled wrong. “What meat is this?” I asked, and she looked like she’d seen a ghost.

She bowed her head so fast her nose almost hit the table. “Forgive me Honored Third! By right…. What punishment do you wish? This is Man Meat….” She said with a shaking tremble.

“I don’t want any punishment; I just don’t eat human.” I said seeing her even more fearful. Not only had she brought a mistake, but she also brought an inedible one. To take it back was an insult to the chef, and to bring it to me was also an insult to me, one of royal blood.

Grandfather switched his half-eaten chili with me, but his bowl was Massive. For me, it was more than a usual serving. I ate it happily, and so did he.

“Be Calm Little Nina… Is this fine enough?” He asked and I nodded.

“It is an honor to share food with blood.” I said with a small smile, and I pat her head.

“Then this is fine enough for me.” He said taking a bite. “Tell Clementine that she has outdone herself again.” He smiled.

She nodded, pretty much running away.

We were wolves yes… but human sentiments Were here. The men who sat at my left and right were at their oldest… ten thousand… maybe more. I always got the vague answer of ‘when men lived in villages’ with grandfather, but I knew he was older than that.

He was the son of the First Wolf… and lived in the In-between before he got a human form. That much I got out of him.

There was a ding of the bell, and it started.

“My trusted council, my pack… A True Worry is on my heart.” Said the King. “As Jang knows… he Angered the Master, and in retaliation he destroyed all he loved. Now his mate is coming of age, and he has Stirred. His soul came to me a week ago, and now he asks of preparations. Tell me of your progress.” He said taking a sip of water.

I rang a desk bell to go first. It was the proper way to initiate discourse.

“The Battle Bull revitalized Bison City, and sent me to give this.” I said handing him keys, cards, and cash. “About 3 billion dollars of funds is on his card, and the other half is underneath his castle basement, below sleeping chambers for Generals.” I said proudly.

I was an emissary for Jerold because Noah was sick. Nothing terrible, just some human illness called a cold. It didn’t stop Jerold from freaking out though.

“Tell him Diana has placed a ward only the King could dispel, as Sagrinal and Sky also lent their aid.

I bowed, and the Fifth Seat dinged his bell.

“My people have organized the last boat of residents to arrive. The Lion Shifters and Hyena Shifters work together on leading the shifter section, the Drakes, specifically the grandson of King Saiyatok makes sure of that, however my soothsayers tell me that one with no power at all will be mightier than they, and will lead the island.” He said with a bow.

“They mean Eskaal. Worry your heart of a man no stronger than a mortal…. For he holds power of the Mind. No man will be allowed to walk foot on that island without His Explicit Permission, or they will return to their country, and just the Residue of his presence on their mind will poison their leaders into jealousy, suspicion, and worst of all… war.” He said with a glare.

“It is said that Eskaal can ruin men with only the utterance of his name.” Said the Eighth Seat ringing his bell.

“He Can. You were too young to remember… but I do. His father Rau… that name is a spell for beasts. It will make even the hungriest lion tame… Eskaal does that to men. Say but his name in human company, and in seven days, there will be War if it is not countered by the All King…. How fairs he Ronitus?” he asked, looking at the Second.

“He told me he wishes to be released in 10 years to the day.” He said with a bow. “I will honor it, as he knows better than I…. this gives us a deadline.” He said and the room was silent a long time.

Jang now lived alone in a deserted pack, as did the Fourteenth… That much destruction was in wake of their idiocy… Xaxas killed about fifteen thousand in total, twelve of which being wolves. What would the king my grandfather called Master…. What kind of man was he?

From what little I saw of him, he was calm, but it could not be denied that we had to be Careful, as our Council was tasked with his care.

It was us who would wake and greet him… and he would come to us for anything he needed other than Jerold.

“…. Then we have 10 years left. Jang, what have you arranged?” He said with a frown.

“We work with the Battle Bull directly, providing oil and gas for everyone’s needs. All who work toward the Tyrant’s whims know that oil and gas is free. You need only provide the machines.” He mumbled.

“Is that because you feel the bite of your actions still?” Said the Fifth Seat, and he was growled at by the King.

“Do not make light of him. Though it was his fault, he still serves the crown without a mate…. Without a pack… Silence.”

“Forgive me sir.” He said with a bow, but he shook his head.

“You should apologize to Jang.” I pointed, and an official apology was given.

“Thank you your majesty… but know I am not entirely alone…. She wonders my home because I took her smoldering pelt, all that was left of it is this cuff bracelet.” He said pulling back his sleave.

“That is selfish.” Said the Ninth Seat.

“I do not care…. She… she is still here with me. Do you know how it feels to go home to an Empty house… a pack that holds no sound… there are not even spirits there, save my mate…. This is torture. He will not even allow me to die.” He said quietly.

“I hold no pity for one who would kill a mate… but it is quite a fate that I would not wish upon any.” Said the Second Seat.

“Could we send someone to keep him company? Just a few Rogues to be packmates…” I asked and Jang immediately shook his head.

“…. A few years ago… a few Rogues felt pity. I allowed their looting because hearing them so happy that they found canned food, or jewelry… anything was better than the silence. The moment I allowed them to officially join… they died. They exploded…. Right in my face, even their little pup. After that even Rogues are afraid to come. Do you know what they call my pack?” He asked. “The Ghost Pack. Many think I am not alive… I have become a legend…” He said somberly.

“Do not ask him to change your fate when he wakes…. That would have to be something he does by choice… I did not know that he cursed the land too…,” Said grandfather.

“When I dream… I still see the hatred in his eyes.” He said quietly.
