Bryson

I ran with the King, and my men were behind me. We had picked up about 4 more wolves along the way, and on seeing King Ashital, they immediately joined us. They were fearful of my pack, but now that they were members of it, they would calm down eventually.

There was a moan. A rumble from deep within the earth.

Shit.

I must run ahead. I leave the rest to you Bryson. Linked the king in a common link for all to hear. I had been recognized by a wolf I immediately was drawn to. Ven puffed his chest in my mind, and I got a second wind, leading us to the strange outpost they had created.

It was massive, and they had a fence made of logs all in a row, making the encampment nearly impenetrable, but thankfully, the charred remains were already on fire. Soon this place would be ablaze. The doors were already burst down from the King, and the wolves there were on high alert. I stopped short of going inside, and rallied my warriors to fight back to back as the destroyed wall crumbled, giving way to a hoard of at least 50 wolves.

Stay in formation! I shouted as we all got swarmed.

They looked insane, like they had lost their minds, and they fought like I did, until they died. They were not coordinated, nor did they relent, but we weren’t making any progress. I needed to get in, as I could hear screams from the inside. I didn’t know what was happening, but I Needed to stop what ever it was.

We didn’t break formation, but I left the group to look for Master. I fought 10 wolves, not feeling any of the pain from the cuts and bites I was getting.

Then I saw it. He was throwing people into the pit on mass.

You will stop this. I growled in a common link. He laughed.

“Most succulent morsel. You will come and die, that I may awake.” He said completely deranged. His voice unsettled me, but I charged without hesitation. This ass was a threat to my mate and pack. Without him around, I could rest easy. Well easier so long as my mate doesn’t do anything rash.

He shifted and charged me, tackling me to the ground while wolves swarmed me, but I had help. My wolves grappled the wolves off me, so that I could fight him one on one. I heard a snap as one shook my left arm mindlessly, but I grabbed his throat and ripped it out. He let out a gurgled snarl, but I could not focus on him; he was already dead.

Why do you resist little one? I will give you rest. Your body is beaten and broken. He linked with glazed eyes. He was stronger than me, but his body was more frail. I just needed him to make a mistake. My warriors fought off the countless swarm, but I could tell they were getting tired.

We reared, snapping our jaws at each other, trying to get a good bite. I tried to hold my broken arm out the way as much as possible, though he still tried to snap at it. He was trying to make me loose enough blood to die, yet, he did not realize that I could keep fighting until I was nothing. If I died here, even if the King did stop them… where would all my pack go? What would happen to my mate…. I let my wolf take over, but Ven was nothing like I had ever felt or seen. All I could see was red, and I felt euphoria on killing the wolves around me…. I was covered in a thick layer of blood… and I wanted more.

I got him by the fur and peeled his pelt off the side of his neck with my strength, and clawed his jugular. He spurted blood, unable to hold his form, and staggered as a man toward the Pit before collapsing in it. His blood smelled putrid… and I knew he would give Grahkes no sustenance.

The men that were under his control also collapsed, and rose clear minded. They bowed their heads in submission… and I had acquired almost all the wolves that were controlled by Grahkes… there had to be at least 90 left. They kneeled to me, and the King crawled out of the Pit covered head to toe in snake’s blood. He steamed, coughing blood himself, but he had a genuine smile on his face.

“Well done, my grandson.” He said from a distance. He looked around for some water and poured it on himself without hesitation. “I am covered in acidic poison. Do not come near me until I am clean.” He said. I focused my hearing, I heard the sizzling sounds of his skin melting and healing. Anyone who wasn’t shocked rummaged around to find him water.

“Luna, we’re out of vegetables for today’s meal, what shall we do?” Said Diana, the 6’5 ebony woman who made the meals. In the past, she was a warrior, but lately, she handled the cooking because she decided to volunteer.

“There’s still plenty of wild spinach out in the fields, about 2 days worth…” I said, scratching my head. Bryson had been gone almost a week… and as much as I worried for him, I had to keep it together until he got back.

“What, the weeds over there?” Asked her daughter.

“Yup, they’re edible weeds. Mostly everything out here has some kind of purpose.” I beamed.

I got a backpack of Bryson’s and opened it up. It was the biggest bag that we had, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind me emptying out his stuff for a moment. Random things fell out, along with money. Lots of old money from what looked like the 1920’s, gold rings, necklaces and bars. The bars read ‘Wels Fargow Bank 1893’.

I blinked twice and put everything back, trying to fold it as neatly as I could. When had he gotten out to the wild west?! How long had he been a fugitive? Did he trade for that stuff? Was that why he was pardoned? I debated on bothering him about it. I would love to have heard about his adventures, but I’m sure he wouldn’t tell.

I helped pick and show all the wild herbs and edible veggies, making sure to inspect it all before it got into the pot. It wasn’t hard, just time consuming, as we had to make sure there was enough for 243 people now. It was all I could do was to keep up with the pack count, and I could almost smell the growing hostility from Alpha Chris. He blamed the collapse of his pack on us, even though it was his own damn fault.

Izbell! Linked Libby full of fear… Adam had found a worm that was most likely trying to stay warm deep in the dirt. I giggled a bit.

“Adam, leave Libby alone or I’ll tell your father!” I shouted, hearing the boys his age giggle at him because he got in trouble.

“ADAM!” Roared his father, and I burst out laughing. Zack chased his son, who was now a very small wolf, but went slower than I knew he could go. He was scaring the piss out his son, like he scared Libby. It reminded me of when my littermates would chase me with mice. I was scared of them. I, a werewolf, strong enough now to take down an elk…. Was afraid of a mouse.

I chose to check pack emails before it was time to eat, and I saw one that was marked urgent from the council.

Dear Alpha Bryson Charred, The Beast, The Bloodborne One,

Alpha Chris of HalfMoon has initiated a cease and desist of the spreading of propaganda, as well as the stealing of pack members, and brainwashing them to join your newly registered pack. We understand that as a new pack so close to an established pack may be intimidating, however, this is not allowed.

If you continue, you may be placed under investigation, as well as stripped of your Alpha status. You are to attend a hearing 5 days from now, however Alpha Christopher Half has the right to challenge you legally before this time. If you cannot attend in person, you may via Zoomi.

-Alpha Phillip, the Frosted One.

I took a deep breath, and snarled at my phone.

Who the Fuck does Chris think he is?! I heard the pitter patter of slushy rain, and I signed. Everyone ran to my tent, thinking that something had happened, but I waved them away. I called that bastard, and he answered on the third ring.

“You Mother Fucking piece of Shit. I will rip your innards out your asswhole and shove them down your goddess damned throat you moss licking, dust snorting, Fish Fucker!” I screamed

“May I help you, or are you done?” He had the nerve to say smugly. “I know ‘Alpha’ Bryson is gone to go fight Grahkes, without help. He’s dead.” He chuckled.

“How do you know that?! Huh?! You’re talking shit, or you wouldn’t have run to the council like a suckling pig who’s feelings got hurt.” I sneered.

“Oh, by all means continue. I’ll be there in a moment to collect all those traitors and put your head on a stick for all to see. Oh, in say, an hour?” He snickered and hung up.

There was fear throughout the camp, as even though it wasn’t on speaker, we were wolves. “Luna what will we do?” Said one woman, holding her twin babies and her toddler son stood next to her.

“He will punish us dearly…. And what of the pups?” Said one fearfully.

“I would die gladly. This pack was run better than anything Chris could do.” Said a warrior, spitting on the ground.

“Enough!” I shouted. “ He has challenged…. So without Bryson that means I have to go. I will be Alpha in his stead.” I said quietly. I didn’t want to believe that he was dead…. But he should be here by now… it had been 6 days since he was gone.
