The birds chirped and the sun was too bright, but I rolled out of bed, making coffee. I didn’t remember my dreams last night, but they were crazy. I think there was a dancing bear in there somewhere leading me to a tree made of honey? It was something along those lines of ridiculous nonsense.

I yawned and stretched; last night was great… he held me the way I wanted. We finally had real time to be close in three weeks. No quickies, no sneaking between appointments or patrols... just me and my mate… Glitter huffed with a long complaining growl. She wanted more of our mate, and I did too but the pups were up and opening the door.

[momma! I want play!!!! CAN WE PLAY NOW?! LINCOLN PROMISED!! HE PROMISED!!] yipped Tyson jumping on my chest, licking me. I was a little more upset at that, and growled at him a small warning. Nothing big, just that he was being rude.

I was surprised that didn’t get up my mate, but with all of them now excited to play with Warrior Harlem’s youngest son and daughter, I didn’t have any choice but to either give them what they wanted or hear this until he ultimately came up here with his morning report anyway.

“Luna I came to pupsit. I didn’t forget.” He beamed, knocking on the door. They exploded in yips of excitement, running into the bathroom so I could get them ready.

It was even stranger that THAT didn’t wake up Bryson, but if he was out this hard, he had to have stayed up all night.

“Give me a second.” I said turning on the water for the little ones, and they more or less let me brush their teeth, and I left the rest of their routine like bathing until after they rolled around in the dirt and came back inside. I put on a simple black t-shirt and blue camo leggings.

He waited patiently for me to open the door and the pups exploded out to lick him and jump on him. He already had not only the paper’s printed manuscripts in hand but also a helmet. He was going to ride his dirt bike while they ran behind him like they always did. That or chase squirrels, tug-o-war with bones, or something along those lines. His little sister would be outside with their father, and he would always stay within earshot of him.

“Luna the Fall Fest’s posted like you asked this morning. I can almost hear the buzz of everyone already.” He smiled.

“AND This year you might get Your mate.” I smiled and he blushed.

“I hope they’re willing to have an Omega mate….” He said sheepishly while the pups yipped on him and his little sister. He hid a bit of the pain from them, and they were still really young pups, so they didn’t quite catch on that he was upset, but I put my hand on his shoulder.

“They will love you. Only a fool rejects their true mate. Look at Beta. Do you think he would have been as happy without Gabby?” I asked and he looked down at the floor.

“He surrendered SalmonMoon because of her… but then he wouldn’t be Beta under an old one.” He said with a weak smile. “Sounds like a cooler tradeoff anyway to be honest.”

“I never thought of it that way…. But it’s not a bad thing. We live in the second largest pack in the world… and with that comes safety. No one will reject you.” I smiled, and he seemed encouraged, run-walking down the stairs with the pups.

He would usually have the news ready at 9pm, and he posted it after one of us gave the ok at 6am, around the time of shift change so everyone could get a chance to read the goings on across the packs via virtual newsletter or printed newspaper for wolves who missed it like my mate. He led the operation, along with quite a few Omegas. Bryson even created a program here so that they could all get a real degree in journalism if they wanted. And they did. The small program held about 20 students, about 18 of which were Omegas. He picked up his little sister so he could carry her outside like he always did, but she squirmed and probably wouldn’t stay there long.

We allowed merit to hold a place over strength. It actually made the pack healthier, and before I could get into my inner monologue more, Lincoln’s little sister Gracey leapt out his arms and hugged Grace.

She squealed when my daughter jumped on her, and they both ran out the door outside. She was faster than most pups her age because of who she played with. Tyson even seemed to toughen up Harlem’s son, as he appeared to be more toned than most Omegas now that I thought of it.

[Link!] He yipped, running outside with Kaizen, who also was really excited.

I went outside with them, and watched them play even before breakfast. “Luna who’d have thought my smallest pup would get so far.” He said looking proudly at him ride around the backyard. It ruined the flowers but I really didn’t care about that. My bad ass pups already ruined about half of them with their Charred claws digging them up anyway.

“Never underestimate any wolf. It’s what my Uncle Erick would say to dad when we were pups.” I smiled with him. “My dad got all his parental knowledge from him, and though he was an Omega, Erick’s contribution helped make the Crown Prince who he is today.”

“I’m from SalmonMoon, back when Alpha Marshal was in charge before Beta ran things there… I’ll tell ya’ now that that wolf wouldn’t have given my son the time of day. At best he’d be a shoe shiner somewhere, but that’s the fate of a weak wolf…. I hate that. Thank you.” He said honestly.

“…. In all my life I’d never seen an Omega as anything more than another wolf… but I’ve heard and seen that treatment in glimpses here and there with the council…. And Alpha hearings… I can’t imagine a world like that, but we can’t change how each individual Alpha runs their pack, only lead by example….” I said looking at them be so happy.

Harlem was right. Any other pack that young man would be not only the bottom, but an outcast. Sent out in the danger as an Omega Deliveryman… a janitor…. Anything looked down on or considered menial that no one else wanted to do was a job meant for Omegas… There was almost a silent shame in having one as a pup…

“I can’t lie and say that I didn’t feel the same until seeing how Alpha treats everyone…. But if I were anywhere else my lil Linky would have never been given a chance anywhere else, but because of him we have a news system that can alert the entire pack regardless of distance….” He said with a light chuckle because of Kaizen. He’d found a squirrel and chased it with Tyson right behind, and lastly Lincoln was on the dirt bike.

“But yet it is I who must thank You. You and Candice raised a fine pup who benefits the pack because of his quick wit and fearless nature.” I laughed lightly shaking my head. “I remember him taking pictures of us and picking up my pups without any fear. I need more wolves like him.”

“I hope he provides you some.” He said illuding to the Day of Peace… the Harvest Moon was the same night as the eclipse, a very rare time. It is said that bonds on that night are even stronger than regular bonds, and I understand that, because it happened with me and Bryson.

It was when the Lady used her energy the most, and a time when the night is most fierce. “I’m confident that he’ll get a mate and not be rejected. He is well known and has a pretty decent position despite his disability.” I said confidently.

“Then I’ll stop worrying.” He smiled.

“Good. Gods damnit Kaizen put that squirrel down!” I yelled. He hadn’t figured out how to kill or eat them yet, but he got bit good enough to yelp after he’d caught it. I resisted the urge to shift and annihilate that little bastard, but it was scared and defending itself. Nothing Wants to be burned alive and eaten… but my pup was more important.

He whined a bit before coming to me like I’d barked at him to, and he was fine. It was already healed, but now he barked at the tree it was hiding in. I could have nailed it with a rock, but I didn’t want them growing up being mama’s boys. Whining to mommy to get your way never worked with me, but it did ‘accidently’ get knocked out the tree by Harlem.

It ran around frantically before it ran off into the wooded area that separated the packhouse from the shopping district. We’d let the backyard get a little wild because it honestly looked nice, and if I couldn’t have flowers in peace… I could at least have trees.

It was about 9:30 when Lincoln left for class since it started at 10, and I made pancakes for me, Harlem and Bryson… but he hadn’t gotten up Yet. I was starting to worry… He never really slept in unless he did a long patrol…. But he was home last night.

I wondered was he ok, and while the little ones ate their raw, I went upstairs to see he was still asleep. His chest pulsed a red glow, and I knew that it had to be related to that… he was an Old One… maybe me biting him triggered something.

I locked the door and left him be. There was food and drink in the minifridge up there, and I didn’t want someone doing something stupid. I stayed in the office while the pups were free to come and go as they pleased. They were watched by Alex, because Adam was in Warrior Training School now. He was a prodigy, but that would make sense because it was Bryson and Beta who trained him.

He was raised and trained by a current and former Alpha, for him his future looked bright. He was 17. He’d grown to be pretty strong and held a serious gaze like his idol, Bryson. I’d missed him going to school because he knew to sneak out. If he didn’t the pups would demand he play with them, and he never really had the heart to tell them or Libby no as ‘tough’ as he was, though she was in school too now.
