The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 39
Isabelle
“Bryson how long was I asleep?” I asked him. It hurt to be in his arms, holding my head up legitimately hurt, but he would never know that. I would never tell him something so painful…. In more ways than one. How was he to know that when he bathed me, as good as it felt, hurt. it was all I felt down my spine… was pain.
“A week, though you need to rest little mate.” Said Ven. His eyes were black marbles, and I stared into the void. He looked concerned.
“Ok.” I told him, and I went to sleep in his arms nearly instantly. They had reapplied all the IV drips and pain medicine since my shower, and it was already 9. The moon could be seen through the window, and I swear it looked brighter than usual.
I woke up with the sun, but Bryson looked like last night was the first time in a while that he had real sleep. That was probably the case, since he was so disheveled when I woke up. I let him rest, but I needed breakfast.…and I had to go to the bathroom.
I knew I couldn’t go by myself because all the machines would beep and wake up my mate, so I pushed the button for a nurse. A black and silver haired nurse by the name of Amy came and helped me. The sweet relief of having to go left. She helped hook me up to everything again, and I laid down, stroking my mate’s silky soft hair. It looked allot longer from when we were in camp. I wondered why, but I would ask him later.
I heard the door open, and the doctor come in. He was a stocky built, nearly teenaged looking man with a goatee and shaved sided head. He wore glasses that were rose tinted to hide his purple eyes… at least that’s what they looked like with them on. Most wolves had human colored eyes, but that he didn’t meant he could never leave the pack without contacts.
“Ah, good morning Luna, I was about to tell Alpha that you could be discharged today, but it seems he has finally succumbed to exhaustion.” He said with a small smile. I looked over to my mate. His mouth was wide open, and you could see his oddly shiny fangs. Lady. He was laid in a contemporary renaissance pose that would make an artist want to paint him. It also didn’t help that he was shirtless… and his belt was unbuckled.
“It seems so.” I mumbled, realizing that they were letting me ogle my mate in his sleep.
“Yes, and I’m sure by now your hungry. We have the Wild Diet prepared for you Luna, as it seems both you and your mate have a hard time digesting processed human foods.” He said with a small smile, and I nodded.
“Ever since I was a pup, some foods just don’t work with me, especially greasy stuff.” I told him honestly.
“It’s most likely because you are a Charred One, and your mate is Bloodborne and a Beast.” He said with a smile.
“What is that title? And how can he have two?” I asked sitting up in the bed now.
“Ah, that title is bittersweet…. Born from the shed blood of one’s mother during birth, a Bloodborne One is incredibly rare, as it takes divine intervention to create the child in the first place. He, who was blessed twice. It is why he is so strong, and why the King recognized him as kin.” He said looking at my mate.
The nurse came in with trays, but the little cart had the food covered so that it would stay warm. “Today’s roast steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans with wheat bread Luna. It’s good to see you awake.” Beamed a nurse. She put the tray in my lap while my mate still slept. He was really out. The food was in a tubber ware bowl, but the plastic was thinner than the ones you would buy at the store. She bowed.
“Thank you, it’s good to be awake.” I said with a nod, recognizing her respect, and I popped the lid. “This is good.” I said taking a bite. It was tender and only mildly seasoned. For some reason my pup refused to let me have delicious foods, and I threw up anything strongly smelling or seasoned.
He gave me a shot for pain. Bryson got up suddenly.
He growled. “I smell meat.” He said with black eyes.
“Oh, we can get you a plate Alpha,” Said Nurse Ana cheerfully, giving him two plates off the cart along with juice.
He thanked her and was finished in about four bites, and drank the 2 glasses of juice that they handed him. “How much did you hear?” I asked my mate.
“Most of it. Explains why my father didn’t give me his name.” He said bluntly. He looked down at his clenched fist with black eyes. Not being accepted was still a sore spot for him.
“He was just an ass! All the gods did was bless you, that’s hardly a reason to mistreat his child!” I overdid it and winced a little, and he set his plate down.
“I will take my leave Alpha, I see you are your wolf.” Said Dr. Carson, and he left me with Ven.
I tried to get up to sit up in the bed, but his large clawed hand gently pushed me back down. I didn’t have the strength to fight him well, yet alone now. I submitted, as much as I hated to. I didn’t want a fight, nor did I want to make him worry after he waited for me to get well.
“You will go nowhere.” He said sternly, and basically made me lay in bed all day. It was Ven’s doing. I would sit up or move around only to be met with black marbles.
I wanted to protest, or be defiant, but his soft touch on my neck soothed my pain. He growled softly, and he kissed me gently on the lips, pulling away. “When you are better little mate, you will have more than kisses, but for now, rest. You have fought well, small flower.” He said kissing me on the cheek, and sleep took me again before I could argue.
I woke up feeling stronger, and I could sit up on my own. Bryson glared at me with red eyes, but only observed. He was trying to see what I could do, and I slowly took myself off the machines, and walked with my IV drip to the bathroom.
“The doctor said you can go home if you’re ready.” He said looking at me with a softer expression. He looked relieved that I was up and able to slowly do things on my own, but I knew him better than to think that would mean that I would get it.
“Good, let’s go!” I said, walking a little faster aiming for the door. I tripped and he somehow caught me gently. He held me, and he carried me to the bed. There were clothes already picked out for me, and Bryson helped me change. I didn’t need him too, but I let him. It was more so for his worried state than my weakness.
“Be careful.” He chastised softly, and he carried me out the hospital. He looked as if he were linking someone, and in a minute, a black SUV rolled up. They gave the keys to Alpha, but he looked down on them with concern. “I can’t drive.” He said flatly.
“I can.” I volunteered, but he completely dismissed it.
“No small mate of mine, I will not have you behind this thing while you take medicine.” He said firmly…. He had a point.
“Alpha I could just drive you back?” Volunteered the warrior. I recognized him from Beastmoon. I didn’t remember his name though.
Bryson looked at him for a moment with stern eyes, but gave back the keys. He gently put me in the backseat, and rode with me while the Warrior drove in silence. When he pulled up to the garage, Bryson got out and carried me to the door bridal style. He was still careful of my neck, even though the bones were fully healed now.
“Welcome home, Luna.” He whispered in my ear. He opened the door, and I smiled.
The packhouse was ours now, and when I went in with him, everything seemed to look cleaned, new, or replaced. It was a good thing that Beta Zack was once an Alpha, and he helped my mate while he sat with me nearly broken. There were also streamers and balloons on the wall, along with balloons and party favors.
“Surprise!” Yelled everyone, and the look on my mate’s face would be forever engrained in my memories. He smiled genuinely happy. It was a deep caring smile that I had not seen in a while, and I kissed him on the cheek.
“Thank you Alpha, for defeating Grahkes!” Said one she wolf.
“We would be snake food without you!” Said a warrior, handing my mate a can of beer, and I asked him to set me down on the couch. They offered me one, but Bryson snatched it before I could take a sip.
“You’re taking strong medicine.” He said with a smug smile, drinking what was mine.
We were served heaping plates of party food and cake like my mom used to make. It was all made by Gabby and Hazel, the Beta and Gamma’s mates. there was drunken nonsense and wolves shifted in the living room, fighting over silly things, and not being too serious.
“I don’t know what to say.” Said Bryson admittedly.
“You don’t have to say anything Alpha, just relax!” Said Alex, kissing his mate on the cheek. He looked buffer than I remembered. Maybe he had been working out?
We ate while I sat on the couch. I snuggled into my mate, resting my head on his lap after I got full. Sleep comes so easy around him…. Especially when he played in my hair. I don’t even think he realized he was doing it.
