“Actually Aeschylus, sorry friend, but my pilot’s human, and he’s been in the air 16 hours. You know how it is, right? He’s gotta rest.” Said King Hadeon, and I agreed with him along with pretty much everyone else.

“Fine, then we will stay until morning, and if your pilots are still spent, I’ll just drive us.” He said with crossed arms.

“The Holy Seat will hear of this.” Hissed the priest, but before he could turn to walk away, the butterfly winged Queen was in front of him. She turned him into a snail.

“Domination over the soul, Command over the mind. I plead my matron’s aid. My creator, Mother Earth, let him remain this form until I release it… erase this fool’s mind of any indication of Bryson the Beast or his kin’s location. May he only be able to speak the truth of these events, nor remember I have cursed him. May he live only five days more, and die of the heart condition I sense he already has. May he become himself, sleep, and awake when his plane lands home. May with this kiss, I accept the punishment of this spell… for I ask too much without tribute.….” She kissed the shell of the snail, and vomited blood the moment she put him in a servant’s hand. “Send him home. Now.” She demanded, falling to the floor, being caught by Jerold.

“Diana… you didn’t have to do that, not without help… why did you do an absolution spell alone?” He whispered, stroking her hair. She looked pale. However, I was confused… because it was almost as if they’d had a relationship.

“I am no guardian if there is no realm to protect and One death is worth billions… I will be back, you know this…. But just the same…. I’m scared.” She whispered, and he held her closer. I didn’t know how to feel about seeing him bury his face in her chest, listening to her heartbeat. She held onto his horns until they slowly slipped off.

“Never forget you’re never alone…” He said holding her corpse tighter. She mouthed something to him, but there was no sound.

I stayed up the entire night, watching the pups, feeling uneasy. I was nervous that enough of the Kings would agree to keep my mate locked away forever, and I wanted to call to make sure he was ok, but I kept getting sent to voicemail.

It meant that court was still in session…. Or they had decided something that I wouldn’t agree with.

“Officer Noah, please do not disturb the pups.” Pleaded Officer Jackson. I could hear him come up the stairs. He tapped on the door as lightly as he could, and I was fine with him.

“Come in.” I whispered, and he smiled wide peeping his head in the door.

“Ding Dong.” He whispered back, but there was a soft snort of disapproval.

“Sir this is breaking protocol, you’re meant to be at home.” Whispered Officer Jackson, but Uncle Noah giggled.

“And I would like to keep it that way. Izzy Do you want a break today?”

“…. That would be nice but maybe later when Bryson gets back.” I felt them wiggle softly, and everyone froze until they settled. It was only 5:30, and the sun wasn’t even up yet. Once they awoke, that would be it for any rest.

“Ok, I’ll be back with coffee and breakfast. Oh and Officer Jackson, please patrol the border.” He tried saying it as low as he could.

“Of course, sir.” He said just out of my line of sight. They both left, and I internally sighed.

I took this chance to slowly creep out of bed and have myself a shower, change, get their toys cleaned, and baby books. It would help me figure out what words were important.

I slipped on some leggings and a pink t-shirt, and I scrolled the pack emails for about an hour before I would open the office, but stay in the living room. Noah had come back, bringing me a pumpkin spice cappuccino, steak and eggs with cheese while he had just some eggs and toast. The smell is what woke them up, and they drank their bottles fine, but I looked at their gums.

They had a little bit more tooth than yesterday, but not enough to eat anything with. Well…. Not unless it was mushy. I had the urge to kill something and bring back the meat, but that wasn’t a good idea. It would possibly be too heavy of a meal since they were still so young.

They looked like they were taking actual steps, figuring out how to move around, and it melted my heart seeing them stomp around my feet. Then they started wiggle running. “Lady no.” I dramatically giggled, watching Noah let them run after him with a toy. But I wondered why was he here? I let this thought bother me for the majority of the day, along with missing my mate… I sighed.

He was uncle Jerold’s mate, shouldn’t he have been under watch or something? Before Officer Jackson left, he mentioned it, mumbled my wolf. She was roused because of my suspicion, though I didn’t think it was warranted. “Why so glum?! Look at how fast they can go now!” He said smiling, but I didn’t return it. It was getting late, and I tossed around the idea of asking until I just did.

“Uncle Noah…. Why are you here?” I demanded, but I didn’t realize that my harsh sounding words would alert the pack. Warriors were behind me before I could react, and I mentally face palmed.

“I really did come to see my niece and nephews, but I also wanted to check on you. If I’m here, the Royal Guard is here.” He said plainly, but I didn’t see anyone with him. I didn’t even smell anyone.

“Where are they?” Asked Warrior Commander Paul with crossed arms.

“About 5 minutes from your border, in officer uniform. Izzy you know me better than that. Jerold would have a fit if anything happened to you.” He chastised, picking up Grace, and putting her in his lap.

“You mean ‘us’! And when are they going to be back anyway?!” I complained, while Tyson chased his brother, who sniffed the ground until he got to Noah’s feet. He set her on the floor while we ‘awed’ only to be disappointed by ear pulling. She had him this time.

“Unfortunately, though I have no updates on either of our mates, because you damn near have to tan his hide for him to tell you anything. He won’t even respond to my texts….” He sighed and I did too.

“Bryson lately has been better at just telling me, but he still hides so much.” I admitted, plopping on the couch, while Noah got a bagel.

“It’s because he thinks you can handle it. Be patient, as you both grow, he’ll open up more. And he’ll be back soon, I know it. My mate wouldn’t leave without him.” He sat next to me, while the Warriors surrounded us both. They all looked worried, but probably because they knew it would be hell if either of us or the pups had something happen.

“I hope so…” I mumbled, only to feel a strong presence suddenly behind me. The door was open, and I ran after the pups. They’d never ran to the door before.

“Ah! Don’t do that!” Screamed Noah, who I could hear playfully slapping my Uncle Jerold. They walked off to talk, as everyone wanted to bow to their Alpha, but he would see me and the pups first.

Mama! Screamed Tyson first, then all of them, running to their father. He laughed, but I could feel the pride off him.

He kneeled to them, opening his arms wide. “No, it’s pa-pa. Pah-pah.” He said happily, picking them up and giving each one a kiss before picking me up and kissing me. “But you can call me daddy.” He chuckled, and I blushed at the giggles from the pack.

“Bryson!” I screamed, hiding my face in his chest when he sat me down. He smelled so strong it made me feel safe... He was gone only a little over a day, but Lady I missed him. I hugged him tightly, and he smelled my hair, kissing me softly on the lips.

“Alpha, I would like to report that there were no incidents.” Warrior Commander Paul said proudly with a puffed chest. It was like he’d been practicing.

“Good. Please take off and be with your families everyone. I have returned with no intention of going anywhere.” He smiled.

“I’m glad to hear that. Welcome Alpha.” Bowed Zack, who had his family.

Jerold came back in, and gave Bryson a firm pat on the shoulder. “Yes, and I will see to it that it stays that way.”

“I thank you for what you have done, please take time here and rest in one of my homes, or here if you so choose.” He shook Jerold’s wrist, and he looked like he was thinking about it.

“No, we mustn’t impose.” He chuckled, leaving. They waved goodbye, and I hoped that there would be no more meetings for a while, especially since the entire time, all he’d wanted was to just be left alone.
