The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 70
Isabelle
Everyone is okay right? I common linked everyone, and they all either linked, or responded that they were in wolf. We were only on the trail an hour, but just in case they were only being polite, I decided that it was time to go back. We shifted, and I did the rest of my run as my normal form to stretch those muscles too. As my wolf, it was easier, but I wouldn’t be a wolf all the time. I would like that, but I would miss sleeping in bed with my mate, said my wolf butting in. I almost rolled my eyes.
“Luna is there anywhere else you would like to go while we’re out?” asked Mindy. She looked like she was having a good time, and I thought about it.
“Um… maybe some coffee? I could get Bryson some.” I said thinking out loud. He was watching the pups, the least I could do was to give him something in return for doing me a solid. I know it was probably really hard for him to let me out the house, especially since he feels the way he does. We got off the trail and back to the residential part of the pack in no time... because I was only allowed to run pretty much within earshot of it.
I slowed my jogging to a nice trot, then we slowed to a walk. It was busy today, and there were many pack members who bowed, giving me respect. I nodded to them, happy that the sidewalk parted for me like a little sea, but I made sure that I wasn’t bullying anyone. There was a difference between being dominant and being a dick.
The streets here reminded me of my old pack with my parents. The window shops and pups with their parents walking around made me smile. I couldn’t be the one to protect them, but I could be the best support a pack could want. In that department…. I ultimately failed… but what I couldn’t do, my mate took up the mantle. He really was a good Alpha. The least I could do was try to be strong for him, so he doesn’t worry.
“Oh hi Luna!” bowed the cake shopkeeper outside her store. She was probably one palest she wolves I’d ever seen. She smelled like an Omega, but her mate was a pack patrol warrior. He was in regular clothes, but he sported a badge on his chest.
“Hi!” I waved, and she handed us all cupcakes.
“I can’t take this without paying!” I told her, rummaging around my pockets finding my wallet.
“Nonsense! You and your mate united the entire state for everyone, and I heard you’re going to make a secret road to connect them all.” She beamed. I hadn’t heard anything about it, but my Lady that was a great idea. That’s what dad did before I was born with Crimson’s side of the pack
“I also wish to thank you for the raise Luna!” Said her mate, who’s smile beamed nearly ear to ear. I noticed too that they had a little girl shyly hiding behind him, most likely afraid of all the big scary warriors who protected me. There were officer uniforms that warriors started to ware, though it was optional. It would suck to have to shift in uniform, and destroy something you’d have to order again. Also was a little thankful that those who watched me wore just normal jogging clothes. It would probably terrify the pack.
Though money wasn’t really a problem for them, since warriors got paid more than enough to be the only income in a family of four. It was something that Bryson did by raising taxes by 2 dollars. Some wolves didn’t like that, but it wasn’t fair that they risk their lives, and could get injured or even die for doing their job.
I ate a strawberry cupcake, and got a little bag for Bryson, who I never really saw eat sweets. He liked honey, but realistically in the wild that kind of thing was a treat. A really rare one. I got hungry, and I knew I was still eating for the little ones, so I directed the group to the grocery store. All the while, they linked Alpha of my every move, and he must have been satisfied, as he didn’t link me.
I walked in and people stopped what they were doing to bow, while I went in to see if they had any more venison on sale. Thank the lady they had elk, another large, lean meat. I had to eat raw at least once a day, I was making milk for the pups.
“Luna.” Bowed the girl I remembered from when I was ‘a rouge’. I wouldn’t hold a grudge, or be petty, as now anything I said could be taken from 0 to 100 by my easily angered mate.
“Good afternoon.” I said cheerfully, as if I had forgotten about what she’d done, but I linked her a warning. I choose to let what you did go, but my mate would not. Take this mercy, and don’t fucking disappoint me.
She let out a sigh of relief, and offered to give me the 20 pound slab of meat that was worth $70, but I didn’t want to get her in trouble. Elk and venison wasn’t always in stock, but when it was, it was one of me and Bryson’s favorite. I paid with my card, and we left. I had my own card that my mate gave me, though the one dad gave me was still in my wallet. He refused to let me give it back.
Warrior Makai’s mate carried the meat for me, and he didn’t seem to mind, but I wouldn’t burden him to carry it too long. Plus it would spoil. I made my way to the last shop on the strip, the coffee shop. This was often done, as this could be the first place a warrior or ranked pack member could go if they didn’t want to make something for themselves.
“Oh, Luna Welcome!” Said the shopkeeper, though he sounded dog tired. I almost felt bad for the guy.
“Hi! I just wanted to buy us some coffee. My treat.” I pulled out a hundred, and his eyes lit up, but he shook his head.
“I can’t accept anything from you.” He insisted, but I put it in the tip jar.
“Then consider it a gift. You look like you’re a second away from passing out. The least I can do is pay you for your work and goods.” I said sternly, and he smiled.
“Said like a true Luna.” He said quietly, turning to make our orders. The shop was crowded too, but everyone else was already served.
“What’s got you so tired Jean?” Asked Warrior Nan.
“My mate’s injured, and I’ve been working ‘round the clock. It’s nothing serious, she broke her arm falling off a ladder, but I need her well Now.” He huffed and the warriors chuckled.
“She’ll be back on her feet in a few days, chill. Niki, you want to help him out?” Said Kat, kissing her mate on the forehead and she giggled.
“As long as I get some of those lemon bars for free.” She warned with a smile, and he perked up.
“Can you relieve me at 11? And yes! As many as you want, plus tips and I’ll pay for whatever time you work.” He hugged her as tight as he could, and Kat rolled her eyes.
“All you had to do was ask Alpha.” I said with a small smile, and he shook his head fervently.
“I don’t want to be a bother. He’s busy.” He said nervously, and I smiled, putting my hand on his shoulder. I had to look up, because I am so impossibly short compared to everyone.
“He’s not that kind of Alpha. He doesn’t want anyone’s fear. He wants respect. If you’re still having issues, come to him, I really mean it.” I told him this gently, but I could hear his thoughts, he didn’t buy it one bit. He thought I was defending him because he was my mate, but his wolf argued with him. I wasn’t lying. Bryson has literally shed blood, sweat, and tears making this pack, and protecting us.
“Luna I won’t lie… I don’t think this is important enough to bother Alpha with, but If he ever decides to ever come here, I will thank him.” He said with a small smile. “If you would have never come in here, I would have had a week of no help and a sick mate….”
“You’re welcome…. And that’s definitely a problem.” I told him with a small smile.
I went up the stairs to the packhouse, and there was a loud ruckus along with drunken cheers. “Get ‘em!” Yelled Warrior Harlem, his spiked hair was messier than usual. There was the sound of a slam on TV, and the men jumped up off the couch, except my mate, who held our awake pups.
“That’s Bullshit!” Growled Bryson and they laughed. The pups were gumming his hands with their toothless mouths, squeaking quietly. He pulled out his wallet, and gave the warrior a twenty, and I shook my head. I was amused to say the least.
“Holy shit Luna bought elk!” Said one, and Bryson shook his head.
“Paws off; it’s for her pups.” Growled Warrior Commander Paul with a small smile.
“Isabelle, come eat with us. Eddie, get us some more beef and booze.” He said happily. Warrior Eddie was already in the kitchen getting himself nachos.
“On it boss.” He said with a grin, and I was happy he made friends. Wolves were warming up to him. They had gotten used to him in a way, and I was thankful for it. He’d lived alone his entire life, and now he had a mate, pups, pack members, and hopefully friends. I hugged him, kissing him between his horns on the top of his head
“Little mate, I am very drunk please stop it.” He chuckled.
“Fine.” I mumbled with a small smile, kissing him one more time before going into the kitchen.
I sliced about two pounds of elk, and put it on a plate for myself. The rest went in the fridge. I took the pups off his lap. They were wagging their small tails, already very fat from being fed. They were very happy with their daddy, but I wanted them now that I was back.
Beta Zack came down the stairs with chicken wings and I leaned my head on my… very intoxicated mate, while he slightly swayed. They had a brand of beer made by elves. They used rye and sea barley; a type of magical kelp that could get supernatural creatures drunk. To humans, it just tasted like a strong stout, and was popular with those who liked that flavor too.
I ate happily, seeing my mate jump up holding me in the air when Margrim the Mauler body slammed the Stone from the top rope.
Were we ignoring the threat that was happening? For today… yes. If it was something we couldn’t change … why make our lives miserable lamenting what could happen? Heidi was almost never wrong with this kind of thing, but my pups crawled in my lap. they innocently sensed that their mama was worried. They were so innocent right now. They won’t be once they are strong enough to hunt… kill… seek revenge. I put them to bed again one by one once the match was finished.
