Bryson

I was surrounded by 10 wolves, but this time, their leader had horns. He wasn’t a wolf, he was a Satyr. A goat man. I hadn’t seen someone like this in a long time, as this wasn’t where, they usually live… but there he was. He held a long club that functioned as a walking stick, yet, I felt something from him. He probably could do magic.

“Join us wolf, the Master will treat you well in his pack. You could have legions. Acceptance… and all the she wolves you could mate. All the money you could spend. What do you say?” He said confidently, and stomped his goat legs on the ground.

I didn’t know if he could understand, but I linked them all.

I don’t know what the hell you’re on about, but I already have a pack. I roared as loud as I could, and it submitted them all, save the Satyr.

“I’ll take that as a no.” He said with a frown. “Well ancient one, if you can’t join us, you’re an enemy. Kill them all.” He commanded. They all rushed me, and I let Ven have full control. I’m not of ancient blood, I’m just moon-blessed.

It didn’t matter, so long as they didn’t know that Isabelle was. For him to mention that meant he had some kind of agenda. I had to protect my mate… as she was of the King’s line. Magical creatures can’t be trusted, and there was a chance that they needed an old line for something… I flung a wolf through the air, watching him smash into a tree. They were weak, but high in number…

I doubted they could best me, but if they did, my small pack would be safe. They could always go as a small group to her father’s pack. I roared, being bit on the tail, as it wasn’t the pain that made Ven angry, it was the attempt to restrain us. I whipped around and crushed his skull, while there were 9 more that still needed to be dealt with.

More wolves came to replace anyone I injured or killed. It was like there was an endless supply of wolves that were part of his nonsense, but I would have none of it. Under my feet were a pile of wolves, and for every wolf there was a new scar on my body. Blood oozed from them, and it made me tired, but they could not best me. One jumped on my back, grabbing me by the scruff of my neck, and he shook trying to break it.

He was not strong enough.

I reared on my back legs, and I snapped my jaws trying to reach the small wolf, while still attacking the endless swarm. There was another that was emboldened, and he also jumped on my back, yet he too could not kill me. there was soon a third then a fourth, but they could not pin me, not until they got help.

There were roots that were trying to tangle my feet, wrapping my legs and forcing me to the ground. I was being held down, and my wolf snarled and snapped, getting one on the leg and I crunched as hard as I could, breaking it. He screamed, running off. It made my back just light enough to struggle a little harder, but the goat man chanted something, and the roots became thicker. The 6 wolves that were left backed off, and stood 3 on each side of him.

He had a small knife in his hand, and a bowl. He leaned down, and whispered in my ear. “I do not care if you die, strong one… if you cannot serve my master, then you can die like a mortal.” He sneered, and was about to stab me, except there was the sound of a swoosh. He collapsed to the ground, with an arrow in his head.

The wolves scattered, but there were 2 more shot and killed before they could escape. I wiggled with all my might, but I realized I must have lost too much blood… I sighed inwardly to myself. This was not how I expected to die. I closed my eyes and hoped that Isabelle would be safe. I hoped I killed enough of them, though I doubted it.

-----Isabelle-----

Beta shielded me as best as he could from the 4 wolves that trailed us, snapping at our heals. I wasn’t worried about the small fry, I was worried about the pups and Gabby that were unprotected. Suddenly Zack whipped around and grabbed one by the throat, shaking violently. He snapped his neck, but the other three saw the opportunity to try and get his legs.

Me and Alex took on two, while the last one kept running forward. I reared on my back legs, and we fought, but I was bigger, so I pinned him to the ground. I had never killed anyone before… but today would have to be the day something changed. My wolf took over before I could make the decision, and she snapped his neck, and whipped around to chase the last wolf. Alex and Beta Zack would have to defend themselves, because there was no telling what their plan was.

He was far enough ahead that I couldn’t catch up, but I heard a scream. He must have been linking our location. Damn… he told his friends. There were 3 more wolves at our campsite, and they were all naked surrounding Gabby.

“I don’t know where they are, I swear.” She pleaded. She was holding her children, even though Adam seemed to look like he was angry and wanted to lash out, his wolf would be much too small. He was still a pup.

“The master only wants the strong she wolf…. we can do with the rest as we please.” Said one patting Gabby on the head.

They all snickered until they heard me roar at the edge of the clearing. I didn’t stop running. I had to protect them. They shifted and rushed me, and I heard Zack and Alex snarling behind me. We all fought them without hesitation, like a pack unit, though we had no practice together in any kind of formation.

Alex was incredibly fast, and zipped past me, biting the back of the wolf, and shaking violently. His pink eyes were alight with bloodlust, and reminded me of my mate. I was proud I picked a capable member… I just hoped that Bryson was ok.

“That’s the last of them.” Said Zack shifting into his human form, and he scratched his grey brown hair.

Little Libby was who I was worried about most now that I knew they were safe… she was still very young, and didn’t understand what was happening. Thankfully Gabby was as good of a mother as she was a cook. She cuddled her children, and comforted them even though Adam wanted to pretend he wasn’t affected by almost dying.

“Burn the bodies and give me a knife.” I commanded. It was something I knew Bryson would do… and I understood why. They just didn’t know what I was up too.

They all looked at me with respect and fear. I took the knife to cut the heads off the wolves, and Beta got some sticks. He knew what I was up to. As gruesome as it was, I pretended I was cutting up a rabbit… and tried not to lose my lunch. They were placed near the tattered skins of the wolves before them.

They all made disgusted faces as they flapped in the wind.

I Blinked Twice. “What the hell! Did you See that Zack?!” I screamed, running back to the safety of the camp, and he was silent for a while.

“…. I thought I imagined it... I wish I did. Lady…” He mumbled, and the rest of the pack gave us worried looks, but it had to be done, at least while we were here. We needed to move, but we needed our Alpha too.

Are you ok? I linked my mate, but no return came.

“Bryson isn’t responding to my links.” I commented to Beta. He looked like he tried linking as well, but there was no response. I could tell by the scrunched face he made.

“I’ll go look for him.” I said, but he stopped me by holding his hand out.

“No Luna, I could never allow myself to let a she wolf, my Luna no less, to go into the forest full of enemies.” He said with conviction.

“You can’t stop me!” I snarled, and I felt a pain in my neck, and everything went black.

“Sorry Luna.” Was the last thing I heard.
