Dad put a firm pat on Ven’s shoulder. “What about Alpha Opal, I think the loudest mouths in the room were him and Ryan.” He said shooting them both glares.

“Wait-wait-wait!” Screamed Alpha Ryan. “I only didn’t like that there was a she wolf at the meeting!” He was swift to beg literally at the feet of my mate’s wolf, who already had his claws out.

“Kaiden if you intend on using me as a meat shield, I will kill you too. My mate will forgive me.” He said casually, and turned back to the coward. My dad laughed.

“No Ven, I just thought you might like the territories in Illinoise since your influence reaches all the way to the Iawee border. You lead every major pack in your state now.”

“Land means nothing if my mate is not safe.” He said looking at them both. Alpha Opal slowly glared at me, and kneeled.

“I oath my blood that I will never be a threat to your mate, pack or pups, so long as you allow me to live in peace.” He bit his index finger, and held it in the air for all to see.

“I second that.” Groveled Alpha Ryan. The other Alphas in the room followed suit, and he finally let Bryson have control.

“I vow that if I even think this is being broken, I will personally pay that Alpha a visit.” He sternly looked each one in the eye, and no matter how belligerent they behaved earlier, they were silent as lambs now.

“I’m glad Phillip told me not to say anything, because look at all the rats that were flushed out.” Said my dad, walking between the sea of bowed heads. Some of these Alphas were two or even three thousand years old, yet they were weaker than my mate or my father, who were only a few decades under three hundred.

My mate walked with me in between him and my father until we got to the car. It would be late, in the night when we got home, but when we left the parking lot and, on the interstate, there was a call from my dad.

“I want you two to meet me at my pack. I have a feeling you’ll need more protection Izzy.” He told me.

“She has enough.” Said Bryson, but I could hear dad let out an annoyed sigh.

“Half the council wants my daughter, my grandchildren, and my son in law dead. There’s three fully powered ancients here, and with you two, it would make 5. There are another 3 more who were raised in the same litter as her. An entire family would be easier to help watch, than only one.”

Dad and Bryson were quiet a long time. “Fine, but have an office space avalible for me. I don’t like being away from the pack so long.” He said thinking out loud.

Dad sounded to be proud in a way, and I heard the pop of a soda can. “Easy peasy, if you want, you can stay in Izzy’s old room, and the office can be in Caleb’s.” He said casually.

“I’ll text Zackary to let him know that I need to get Isabelle safe before I come back.” Bryson picked his teeth with his claws while he drove, looking alert.

We hung up after that, and I was a little nervous. I was going to my old home, but it wouldn’t be the same. I know the pack didn’t like my mate, and I knew he would be hyper vigilant since I was so close to birthing. One more month… two if I’m unlucky since it depends on the moon.

I put my hand on my stomach and held my mate’s hand with the other. I wondered what it would be like to be a mother…. Would I be a good one? My wolf walked slowly to the front of my mind and wagged her tail. We will be good mothers. The pups will love us, and our mate will teach them.

Pups? I asked her? Dad, the wolf from the council, and the elders kept saying pups with an S, now my wolf was. Explain I demand.

Listen. She told me. “Bryson, turn off the radio.” I demanded.

“Is everything ok?” He turned it off with a worried expression.

We listened intently, hearing multiple heartbeats. All this time I thought that I was just really big, not with multiple pups in there… “How many do you think are in there?” I asked quietly.

“At least two, maybe three, I hear two really strong sets and one weak one every once and a while.” He said with a stern expression, but he didn’t take his eyes off the road. He was still looking for threats, but he had a small smile on his face. I almost didn’t notice it in the setting sun.

Holy shit.

-----Bryson------

I was confused with myself on how I didn’t notice. I had been with her every day since the beginning, and I didn’t notice until now. We were busy Bryson; we did not think to listen once we knew she was with pup. Retorted my wolf, who still wanted blood, but he would have to wait. I could catch a deer or something after we were settled in.

I was thankful that Zackery was once an Alpha, as he could defend the territory while I was gone. I would still do my duties to the pack, so he should be fine. I would not leave multiple packs worth of weak wolves unattended. They needed me and my leadership. Any fights could be taken by my Beta, as he had my permission, but if he felt the need, I could drive back. We were only a drive away.

Alpha Greg Opal wishes to congratulate you on your pup. He texted me.

Tell him I said thank you, but watch the northern border closely. I texted back. The snake was a friend of Vincent, and housed my stepfather. He was my enemy no matter what he said with tongue and cheek.

I pulled into the packhouse, and there was an odd smell of cow in the air, along with human. Strange. My mate was excited, but I knew better. I would not trust these new smells. She was happy, and I was content with that. Ven had also gone abnormally silent.

I pulled into the garage, and the moment I turned off the car, she bolted out the door.

“Jerold!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, running inside. I chased behind her, trying to make sure that she wasn’t going to hurt herself. I ran past all the warriors that were confused on seeing me. Some of them were new, but many others knew who I was and what I had done. My horns came out, though that wasn’t my intention.

There was a horned man with reddish brown eyes holding her in the air as if she were a child. He had a smile on his face as if he were her father, while her real father casually drank a beer, talking with a blonde curly haired human.

I was confused.

“Ah you must be Bryson. I am Jerold. Over there is Noah. Don’t eat him.” He said jokingly. I was again confused. Why would he care so much about a stinky little human? He reeked of cologne and bull- they were mates.

“You know, I never really hunted human. They’re too vengeful.” I told him honestly, and he chuckled.

“They have to be, to deter us from eating them. It works.” He said casually, putting down my mate.

“I thought he would be taller.” Said the human, who was only as tall as the average she wolf. He was so cheerful, I didn’t know if warning him with a growl would do anything.

“Bryson, Bryson, Bryson!” She screamed grabbing my hand and dragging me to the tall, but young female. Isabelle put my hands in hers, and I didn’t like it, but I would tolerate it for her sake. She looked like my mate, except the eyes were different. Now that I thought of it, Isabelle was the only one born with the eye color of her bloodline. The male she was with was shorter than her by a head, and he seemed to be intimidated, but unwelcoming to say the least. I was holding his mate’s hand.

“You really do have ruby eyes…. I’m Michele, and this is Martin. On behalf of everyone I apologize for you having to deal with that hyper little cousin of mine.” She joked; I couldn’t help but give her a small smile.

“No need. I made my peace with it.” My mate nipped my hand, though I didn’t feel it. I did enjoy the tingles…
