The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 60
Isabelle
I felt like I was being ripped apart, all the while fighting not to shift. Glitter thought she knew best, but the rearranging of organs could kill the pups while we were birthing. This wasn’t normal, though even the way I got pregnant wasn’t either.
“Isabelle I’m sorry. This is my fault, I’m so sorry.” Bryson held my hand, and kissed it while I was being admitted into the hospital. I felt dizzy, and I threw up on the floor while they carted me down the hall.
I was the only she wolf in the birthing section, but in a way it was a good thing. At least no one else had to see me suffer.
“Wildflower don’t say that. I need you here.” He mumbled. They wanted to put an ultrasound to my stomach, rubbing the cold jelly on my belly. Bryson didn’t even object like I thought he would. Dr. Goldstein was a male, and usually he was overprotective about that kind of thing.
“She’s too far along to have a cesarean.” He was frustrated, “There’s three in there, but if she doesn’t pup tonight, they may die.”
“What of my mate?” He growled.
“Sir, she is losing allot of blood. This is old magic…. I don’t know how to help her.” He backed away, barely missing the swipe of Bryson’s clawed hand.
“Fucking useless. Get me some of St. Raphael’s tears, Unicorn dust, Elf’s hair, the blue flowers, and some ground dragon’s scale mushroom” Snarled my mate.
“That’s a narcotic, you can’t give her that. It thickens the blood.” Said a nurse.
“She’s bleeding out.” He snarled, and they scrambled, bringing back flowers from outside, as well as pill forms of what he asked.
“I can revive her if she dies, but I don’t know if I can with her foals.” Said Queen Sky, followed by the other royals.
“No. It would break the laws of nature….” Warned Jerold. He looked like he didn’t want to say it, but he was right… .that kind of thing can corrupt unicorns, and make them change into evil bicorns. They grow an additional horn, and their wings lose their feathers. They also tend to change coat color too.
“I don’t care, I see her as my child. I watched her grow up.” She sobbed, and the nurse wanted me to start pushing, but I wasn’t making any progress. I felt sleepy, but I couldn’t sleep at a time like this!
Where are you? I heard in my head. It was the man from my dream…. The Horned One. I didn’t have time for this.
I felt my heart slow down, I could feel my blood ooze out of me… and I went to sleep.
----Bryson-----
I stared at the flat line that represented my mate’s heart in disbelief… she was sick this whole time... I knew that I could smell it, but I was in denial. I fell to my knees. “If there is any god who will hear me. I will give you whatever you want…. Whatever your desire I will do it, if you return her to me.” I wept. I had never cried, even at my worst. Even when I was abandoned, exiled from the pack. I felt like everything was in slow motion, but it was all moving too fast.
I had lost my mate. I lost her and it was my fault.
They tried starting her heart, but she would not come back. I shed bitter tears, feeling my bond with her slowly fade. What fate was this, to find peace for only a moment, and to spend the rest of my immortal life lamenting the memories of it.
“I will revive her, let me go Jerold.” Hissed Queen Sky.
“No, we will lose you. Well, you won’t be a unicorn anymore, and your son isn’t strong enough to inherit your powers.” He growled. I didn’t care about their fighting anymore. They would not help… and I would be forced to live without her. My heart felt heavier with every beat…. My wolf howled in my head, and I almost did with him.
Where are you? I heard in my head. It sounded Ominous.
Can you Save her. I responded.
Son, you two are pissing me off. Where are you? He growled at me.
Charred Clinic, CharredMoon territory. I told him and he chuckled darkly.
“I will have them in exchange for her.” He said, materializing into the room.
“Anything.” I told him, and everyone was silent. I had done the one thing that we were told not to, but I didn’t care.
He walked slowly to her, and put his hands on her belly. They looked like they wanted to stop him, but there was nothing anyone could do against a god. She took a deep gasp of air in her lungs, and immediately shifted. She was so large that most of her hung off the bed, but we would fix that later. She was asleep, but she pushed by his magic, delivering a small pup with horn nubs on his head…. An actual pup. One with fur….
There was another birthed into his hands, then a third. They all were no bigger than my hand each… and they cried small squeaks in the hands of the God of Destruction.
“Unhook her from the machines, she bleeds from them.” whispered her grandfather, and put his fingers behind my ear, forcing me to shift in the small room. I barely fit, especially with my horns. I smelled my pups held in my father’s hands and I cleaned them. It was my instinct. He placed them on her belly, and they drank while I licked her face. I wanted her eyes to open, but they would not. I felt through our bond that she was alive and well, but it did not stop me from worrying.
“My son, I want no ill of my own blood.” He said quietly, looking at my mate, and patting the fur on her head. “She made Grace for me… because we are unable to ever touch again… We make each other souls and flesh as testaments of our love… that we may interact with each other, bending the rules. If I could hold my mate one more time…. if I could see her…” He looked out at the very large, full looking moon. “We created the mate bond that we could always feel each other…. And let mortals share a taste of what love feels like,” He said softly. My little ones made small squeaks, and I saw the dark god smile.
“What will you do to my pups?” I asked shifting back, being handed shorts, and taking the remnants of the gown off her.
“Nothing. I no longer wish to fight the war of my father in law’s creation.” He said looking at them slowly, slowly vanishing into nothingness.
“Wait. I have so many questions.” I said reaching to him.
“Then summon me.” He said quietly as a disembodied voice.
There was a long silence. Even the pups were silently sleeping. They were all born with no human form…. They were all born the wolf.
“I see now why neither of you wanted ultrasound scans.” Said Kaiden, who also was confused. We all were. This was something only Unshifted Ones produced. Would my pups even have a human form when they got older?
“No, my mate wanted the surprise.” I said quietly, looking more closely at them. They were all horned and pitch black with tiny claws. Their ears and eyes were closed, so I would have to wait for that… but honestly, I didn’t care if they got my red eyes. They were beautiful. That they were born the wolf meant that they would be strong. Strong enough to fight the Old Ones one day should they awake.
“I want to hold them.” Said Noah and I growled at him.
“You’ll shit out your innards before you get a step closer.” I snarled, and this time my mate’s eyes opened weakly.
Bryson please be quiet I am so tired. she whined in wolf, and it hurt my heart. She breathed heavily, falling back to sleep. I vowed I would never get her pregnant again, even on accident like this time.
“Forgive me.” I whispered, and she went back to sleep.
“I think we should leave.” Said her grandmother, who came to me and rubbed my back in little circles. I allowed it, because it felt comforting. I was given a chair, and I sat at her bedside. The useless doctor came with a nurse to make her more comfortable, and I took it from them so I could do it myself. I didn’t want anyone near her. I didn’t want her to wake until she had the rest she needed.
I didn’t sleep at all. I watched human shows while she slept on very low volume. It was only to watch the news, and to pass time. I had no real interest in what they were saying, as all I could do was to listen to the small heartbeats of my pups, and my mate, who I kept checking on without waking her.
