A/N: Sorry guys that I left so long but I passed my exam (final paper)! That class was hard, and I also still had to go to work so I wrote what I could in my spare time, but now that summer’s here hopefully I can post daily. I still have a week left of classes but that paper was worth like … 30% of my grade.

Bryson

After I check the north border, I’m calling it a night. Thanks Bryson. Linked Caleb.

I’ll handle Brutus’s kin when my Shadow Warriors deliver them. I linked back.

We were our wolves, running together before splitting off. The moon was about half full tonight, giving plenty of light for us to see, and scout for threats. One of which I was tracking. I would get my hands on Brutus’s children, those who chose to continue his legacy, and they would die for it soon. In the meantime however, I had a small problem with Rouges. Nothing I couldn’t handle alone, but Caleb wanted to come to settle his wolf.

No problem, I need to still check on something in the south. I grumbled.

I did my patrol with Caleb and we split the difference this week with sleep. Neither of us got enough, but with the Harvest Moon coming, there would be more rouges around and he was already hyper alert as it was. Most wanted to linger at the outskirts of the pack to see if they could scent their mate, and then they’d likely give up on that life if they were, but there was always a few who just wanted to be a pain.

And a Pain in my ass they were. One had even scented over my warnings, though I could tell he was damn near a pup. I didn’t recognize who it was that’d done it, and they probably didn’t expect me to leave my territory to find them, but I would. If he was out there, I didn’t care, but he would respect me. All it takes is one or two to get the rest disrespectful and troublesome at the borders.

I could hear them still laughing and enjoying themselves, sharing a kill at one of my campsites I’d made. I always wondered what would happen if I ever stopped maintaining them, and it seems as if the answer was in front of my face. Rouges did keep this one looking pristine. It surprised me.

They had tattered tents that could probably last this season and no more, drinking from tin cups. The campsite looked like it was cleared of leaves and litter, so that the fire could crackle without spreading. They all sat around it, as tonight it was cold enough to see your breath. They also seemed in high spirits, since there was also the smell of food.

“…and then I told the bitch she should’ve paid Me with all the effort it took to get the damn thing in the first place.” They all laughed at what the middle one said. They had to be sharing some story or another, but I didn’t really care.

“I love that story.” Chuckled the one on the right.

“Don’t call Yanni a bitch though.” Grumbled the one on the left.

“Oh, Whatever. You just liked her ‘cause she was Alpha Garret’s daughter. Shame she’s with Beta’s boy…” He sighed. “You think your one’s out there Matti?” Asked one on the right.

“Nah, but if she is there’s no way the King of the Forest would let us in his shitty pack.” Said the one in the middle. He had to have been their leader.

“Packs are the worst.” The right one chimed in.

“He’ll probably shit a brick about his border line though.” They all laughed, except the left one.

“I still think you shouldn’t have done that to Him though Matteo. From what I heard, he’s got no chill.” Said the one who sat on the left. I could see now that they all had black hair. They were likely brothers smelling so similar. Interesting.

“You were always the worry wart Nelson, As if an Alpha has the time to come all the way over here to ‘teach us a lesson’ or somethin’. You’ve been watching too many scary stories on your phone.” Said the one in the middle. “Besides bro, this nose would know if somethin’ that dangerous was that close.” He chuckled.

I decided to interrupt and sit at their campsite. They saw my wolf too as I walked into the light of their fire.

“Well shit.” Said the one on the right. They made no move to run, as I’d not only shocked them, but scared damn near the actual piss out of them.

“Happy harvest.” I said putting my elbows on my knees, interlacing my fingers so I could rest my chin on them.

“…. Happy Harvest.” Said the one in the middle, I think his name was Matteo. Getting a good look at them, the two with him were incredibly young, with him being the oldest, looking about 20 or so.

“Seeing as how I am petty, I did come all the way out here. And what do I find, three pups using one of my old sites to mock me.” I said with a grin.

“Alpha I was just messin’ around. Let Nelson and Georgy go. They both told me not to do it.” He said bowing his head.

“And where would they go? They don’t look any older than…. I’d say 12 and 16?” I said with a raised brow.

“I’ll be 13 in June.” He said sheepishly.

“I won’t lie I intended to rough you three up a bit and run you off, but you’re all way too young for that.” I said sternly. “So instead tell me why you’re running?” I said with a raised brow.

“We’re from YuleMoon. The only pack bigger than Alpha Phenix’s is yours. He’s the new Alpha, and he didn’t take kindly to a former Alpha’s kid hanging around. One old enough to challenge.” I knew that Pack….

“Where’s your mother?” I asked, and he frowned.

“Willingly with that shithead. He didn’t want to leave.” He grumbled. “I just don’t get it.”

“I do. She didn’t want to give up her status. She thought if she mated him, you lot would be safer, as Alphas usually don’t take in kids From other Alphas, making her little ones not only Rouges, but outcasts.” I said sitting up, being passed some of their kill. It was bland because they had no spices, and dry, but they offered, and I wouldn’t refuse since I’d seen them eat it first.

“And so it was easier for everyone to just accept the new Alpha. It was like nobody cared.” Said the one on the right, George.

“They don’t really have a choice. It’s either accept the new rule, leave, or challenge. Just as I can see your wolves were to scared to even shift and run, is how they feel about him. It is the way of wolves. So long as he leads well, no one will question him within the pack. Say, who was your father, I think I might know him?” I asked.

“Alpha Nemi. I wasn’t born when you came to our pack, but when you became Alpha, dad complained about it for weeks.” Said Matteo.

“He had a right, in my days before I was Alpha, I was also an annoying little shit.” I chuckled. “I think I stole grain from him. Your pack is agricultural, isn’t it?” I asked and he nodded.

“Yeah.” They all said more or less at once.

“Well, I don’t see any reason to keep you three out here unless you want to be.” I said standing up.

“We kind of do.” Said the oldest.

“Do you speak for all then?” I asked with a raised brow.

“With all due respect, I figure since you’re a demon and all, we’d be trading a devil for a real one.” Said the boy and I smiled.

“I’m no demon, and I treat all my wolves fairly. Think on it. If you want, come to my office and join. You’re strong enough to be a Pack Patrol Warrior. I’ll give you a job, your brothers can finish school, and you’ll have a safe place to sleep.”

“Matteo I don’t think we’ll get better at Alpha Opal’s pack.” Mumbled the one on the right.

“I agree with George.” Said Nelson, the left brother.

“If it helps you decide, I defeated every wolf in this state. Alpha Opal was killed some time ago.” I said getting ready to leave.

“Shit. Old One you swear we won’t cross the border and get sacrificed or something?” Asked Matteo skeptically.

I showed them my blood. “I may be the Son of the Horned One, but I am no liar. I don’t sacrifice anyone…. I wonder who started that rumor?” I grumbled.

“We heard it from some rouges back in Kansus.” Said George.

“Yeah, I remember the warning about the King of the Forest.” Said Matteo. “I told him I’d believe it when I saw the horns myself.” He chuckled. Seeing me blood oath put him at ease. Above all, no supernatural would break his blood word.

“Gather your things and I’ll send word that three black wolves are coming to join. I do this because I know you all are pack wolves. I also know that the only reason you all still have your gear is because your brother smells strong enough to protect you two.” I looked sternly at the middle brother. “I lived out here for centuries, and I can tell you how many times I’ve been stabbed in the back out here figuratively and literally. I can tell you about how sick you get, and how hard it is to get up to do what you have to to survive. All it takes out here is one mistake, not knowing the right plants, or just bad luck hunting, and your brothers would have their throats slit for something as simple as a bed roll, or food, or even the worn shoes on your feet.” I turn to leave, shifting and running off. I figured it would better to let them come on their own.

When I crossed my border, I had to chase off two more Rouges who were just out to make trouble. They were hunting not too far from a fresh border marking, so they knew full well what they were doing. They laughed as they ran, getting a rush out of nearly being caught by me. I sighed. This Harvest Moon was going to be annoying. A larger pack meant more visitors trying to find a mate, and more Rouges who were just out to get over since this was the time of year you weren’t supposed to just kill them.

Alpha, we have Brutus’s kin in holding cell 104 if you want to interrogate them now. Linked Shadow Warrior Obsidian. Him and his men had captured and brought Grisham, Brutus’s son. They also have his twin girls Talli of OilMoon Pack and Tella, Second mate of the 14th Seat, and Keithelas, his grandson. He’s Grisham’s son. Brutus’s mate died on the way here by magical means, and my only guess was that they’d offended the witches too.

I wasn’t surprised though; they were genuinely terrible people.
