The drive was nice and slow. Bryson was a very good driver, as he followed the speed limit and all the stop signs. Granted, other Alphas would be driving at least 80, but he was not that kind of person. I couldn’t see him doing that unless it was an emergency. I was a little pissed though, because they put the child locks on the back doors, and they also locked the windows. I was going to be a prisoner, but I had agreed to this.

We pulled into the packhouse, and he got out. He was shirtless in the hot winter sun, though maybe it was only hot to me… since I was getting really big. One look and wolves started asking what I was going to name our bundle of joy. He went inside for all of 20 minutes and came out with a stack of papers in his hand. A crowd had gathered, half out of curiosity, and half out of fear. It wasn’t long before everyone was waiting for him to speak while he stood on the porch of the packhouse. There had to be at least a thousand people outside.

He undid his ponytail, and let his horns come out. Wolves gasped, and some held their small children. “The mark of the Horned One.” said some.

“He really is the Horned One’s son…” Said a woman, holding her baby in a purple blanket.

“Alpha Vincent and Delta Lenni were right.” Said others. I could only assume ‘Lenni’ was his father… well his stepfather. There were murmurs of discontent and overall… nonacceptance of my mate. It made my blood boil… the ingrates. He let out a snarl to get everyone’s attention, and they showed their necks in utter terror.

“As some of you know, I came here to engage Vincent Kevin Pine, and he ran like a fucking coward. He left all of you abandoned, for anyone to take, but not just anyone can lead. Your Beta is strong, but not Strong Enough. He would have died to protect you… and he would have failed. I now am Alpha by forfeit, though this was not my intention. I came to fight that dog because that drunk tried to kill my unborn pup by sending his mate to poison my pregnant Luna.” He snarled and there was an uproar. No one would believe that their Alpha would do such a thing, until Beta Franklin came out the packhouse.

“Vincent and his mate Ellie have done this at least three times now… I remember WaterMoon. I was its Gamma. I breathe because I didn’t eat the cake, they made to celebrate the Alpha’s unborn pup. He speaks the truth.” He shouted over the crowd, and there was silence. Those that didn’t want to believe it, heard it straight from the horse’s mouth.

“I swear on my blood and hide that I will be the Alpha I never had…but I expect the same loyalty in return. I will not stop any of you from leaving, but know I will not let you stay if you cannot swear with me.” He gestured the direction of the forest, and everyone showed their necks but one.

“I’ll die before I kneel to the fucking literal spawn of the Horned One.” Spat a man, getting snarls from me and the rest of the pack.

“I know what you’re doing Lenni, and it won’t work. I’m not the little pup looking for father’s approval anymore. That won’t rouse me to anger. Put him in a holding cell overnight, and if he refuses to swear loyalty, he may leave.” Bryson said as an Alpha, and the guards reacted almost on reflex. Everyone parted the way for them like a sea, showing their necks in utter fear. The air was thick with it, yet he did not back down.

“I only speak! It is my right!” He growled. They had him handcuffed and were putting him into a black SUV.

“Yes, and you have disrespected. It is my right to punish. Had it been a legitimate concern, I would have gladly answered.” He said calmly. There was silence again. No one expected him to be calm. They only remembered the negative of my mate, yet, he was nothing like he was back then. At least, not compared to now. A teen boy raised his hand. There were gasps.

His mother tried to shush her son, and his family tried to make him lower it. However, Bryson motioned for the boy to speak. “Alpha… my mother- no- the pack fears that you will rule as a tyrant…. How are we to know you show mercy?” Asked the teenager politely. He bowed his head as low as it could, but his parents chastised him until my mate took a step forward.

“Leave the pup be.” He commanded, and they showed their necks. “I cannot promise that you will agree with my choices, but I don’t intend on oppressing any of you. I don’t necessarily like hurting the innocent.” He said truthfully. The pack seemed to settle down a bit after that.

“But the Horned One is your father…” Said one in the crowd.

Bryson sighed, “Yes, yes I know.” He said dismissively, but it was still a sore spot for him.

“Beta let me out the car.” I commanded.

“My Luna, he will put me on a roasting spit and feed me to the bears if I let you out this car.” He said, looking at my mate. He looked tired. I leaned over and unlocked the windows, then tried to unroll it. Zack pressed the button to roll it back up, but I pressed the unroll on my side. It made the window click, until the glare of my mate caused Zack to get a second wind.

Alpha let me come to you. I linked.

No little mate, you are not safe. None of these wolves have sworn oaths yet, nor do they seem keen on doing so. Linked Bryson.

Bryson sighed, and scratched the base of his horns with his razer sharp claws. They reflected the light back with a flash, even though they were black.

“Being the Horned One’s son does not mean anything. None of you have anything to fear, as I have made a blood oath to you, and I have never broken one. If any of you wish, go to any of the other pack lands I possess, and they will tell you the same.” He said with conviction and stepped down the stairs. The wolves parted for him with a sea of bowed necks, and he was getting into the car until someone raised their hand.

“Alpha where are you going?” Asked a random wolf.

“I live in Halfmoon’s packhouse. I’m going home, but I’ll be back in the morning. Decide if you wish to stay, or meet me at HalfMoon. Until then, you are all under my protection, if there is anything, call me.” He said casually and got in the car. He started it, and soon everyone went about their way.

“Bryson that was great. You did well.” I told him cheerfully.

“Thank you, Isabelle but I know these wolves…. They will probably leave for fear of my wrath, though… for some reason I have no anger toward them. I was so bent on taking this pack and killing Vincent, but now that I have them, I don’t blame them. I was feared because of the unknown and mistreated because of their Alpha… they were only acting on his wishes.” He said casually, like a wise Alpha that had ruled for years.

“Do you feel the same about your father?” I asked.

“Stepfather, and No. He raised me, so I feel the bond of family towards him, but the asswhole was a whole ass. Nothing I ever did was right, or good enough, and in a way… he encouraged me to lose my temper.” He said with black eyes for a second. I could see it in the mirror.

“Do you know why?” I asked… I knew I shouldn’t have, but I did.

“He always said ‘show me, show your true colors boy, be the devil I know you are.’ But I had no idea what he meant… I guess he was talking about these.” He patted his horns.

“Sounds like something you’d say to your child to dare them… he was egging you on Alpha.” Commented Beta.

Bryson hummed. “…. when he said it… I could feel something. Something evil. My innermost power maybe? I wanted to kill… I wanted to maim weather or not they had done something to me…” He admitted. Me and Zack shared a look with each other.

“Do you feel that way now Alpha?” He asked timidly. I could get his fear, he was right next to him.

“Always, after all, I am a monster.” He said quietly. His eyes stayed black the rest of the ride, but there was a small glow from his pupils…

The ride after that was fine, as Zack spoke with Bryson about pack business. They would occasionally link each other about things that they didn’t want me to know about. I could press it if I wanted to, but I would let them have their man time for now. At the moment, I was bloated and sleepy. I only had three months to go, and my little pup was very temperamental in the afternoons.

I laid in the backseat and went to sleep on my side, it was hot in the car, but with the windows down, I got a cool breeze.
