The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 20
Bryson
I opened my eyes to see that it was morning, and I was tied up with rope. Head to toe, even my snout. I struggled to break out them, but they must have been silver lined, as I could not break them. That or my blood loss was still affecting my strength.
“Don’t shift sir, you will reopen all the wounds you sustained.” Said a shy female voice. I looked around to see it was a light silver haired and eyed she wolf. Her voice was nervous and submissive, but her bow and arrow in her hand told me she was the one that saved me.
Where am I she wolf? I snarled in a mind link.
“I found this campsite, and I have been here about a month… I don’t have a scent, so they never noticed me… I heard the fighting and I saw you bleeding out on the ground.” She told me honestly, looking down.
Untie me. I commanded.
“Sir … if I do, you will reopen your wounds, and I cannot hide your scent while you move… I’m out of herbs.” She said timidly. “It was all I could do to drag you here by myself…”
Release me, and I will not move off this spot until you get more. I told her. She stood there a while thinking, It looked like she was reluctant, but she slowly untied me. I shifted, and stood stretching my back and arms. I had laid an entire night in that position and my back was tense. She immediately bowed as low as she could, and backed away. I don’t think she expected to see a naked man, but that was something I couldn’t help.
To keep her from overreacting, I sat cross legged on the ground, and sat on the makeshift mat that she had to have used to drag me. She left for an hour, then returned with a handful of herbs.
“I’m back Mr….?” She said looking me in the eyes briefly, then at my feet.
“I’m Bryson the Beast.” I said casually, and goosebumps formed on her arms. The smell of fear was unmistakable; this was the reaction I was used to.
“I’m Hazel, the Breathless One… and it’s nice to meet you.” She said quietly, handing me a towel.
Another princess.
“That group calls themselves The Disciples of Destruction. They want to awaken the monster that sleeps in the caves under our feet, but the King will not allow it when he finds out…. I would’ve called but my phone fell in the River a week ago.” She said quietly.
“I need to get back to my mate.” I said without a growl. She did save me, but I was not going to stay until I healed since I didn’t know if Isabelle was hurt or not.
“I will not stop you… but please do not come back. I am fine by myself.” She said sadly. I began to walk out the camp, but my wolf stopped me.
Maybe she wants to come with us, said my wolf, and I slowly turned to her. “She wolf come with me.” I commanded, and her eyes lit up a bit. Why didn’t she just ask? I thought to myself. She fears us. Spoke my wolf, butting into my inner monologue.
She took her camping gear, and carried her things in her hands. She walked silently behind me, and looked as if she were afraid to talk to me. I didn’t mind. My wolf was accepting of new wolves lately. So as long as he didn’t see her as a threat, I would remain neutral.
“I bet you were wondering… why someone related to the King’s Fourth Seat was out here… but … I can’t. I couldn’t do it.” She said silently. I did wonder, but not enough to ask.
“Speak.” I told her.
“Well…” She hesitated. “I am Alpha Esmond’s granddaughter… and I was to marry the Third Seat’s grandson. It was to have a political alliance, but Alpha Brutus’s grandson is not my mate…” She said looking down. “I wish to have a mate… not a mark marriage. I even dreamt of how to find him… he’s out here somewhere.” She said quietly.
I hummed, listening to her story. Now that I had a mate, I knew how she felt. I would die before I was left with another she wolf. “I understand. I’m sure you’ll find him.” I told her, and I could feel some of her anxiety release.
------Isabelle-----
I woke up in our tent, but he was not there. His scent was too powerful to fade to much, but I still missed him. I got up and opened the door to see that everyone was either making the fire, cooking, or doing some other busy work. My Beta looked melancholy, but otherwise chopped wood.
This place was no longer safe, but we couldn’t leave without Alpha. We had to find him, but first I would chew out Zack.
“Good morning Beta.” I said calmly, but he cleared his throat.
“Now Luna, I’m sorry I knocked you out, but I couldn’t live with myself if I let you go out there, because I almost died. I had to defeat 5 wolves just to discover that Alpha’s scent seems to be completely erased. The trail ends where we encountered the Rouges.” He said defeated.
“This is my fault… I must have led them here.” Said Alex, who also sounded defeated.
“No,” I told him firmly, “They have been attacking us for a while, and not to mention that they said they wanted me… but I have no idea for what.” I said looking to the treeline.
“Well,” Said Zack, “You are the Princess of Wolves, they may not know that, but they do sense it.”
“I didn’t stay long enough to find out what they were up to… they were like the Rouges you hear about in stories and there’s allot of them,” Alex said, taking a bite out his turkey.
Apparently, they were very successful in their hunting, but only one was retrieved. The bastards stole all the rest of our food, except the piglets….
My mate, return to me. I linked Bryson, and I sighed. I wasn’t hungry. I forked my plate taking small bites.
My mate, look behind you. He linked, and I whipped my head around, to see him walking next to a she wolf. He was in only a towel, and my mouth drooled. He was perfection. Just walking was enough to make his muscles ripple, while there was the slightest shimmer of sweat on him. He waved, and I waved shyly back. But my heart pained me to see him with another female, in nearly nothing. There was no reason for this feeling… we’re shifters. Our clothes don’t shift with us.
She is to close. Snarled Glitter. I couldn’t calm her down, but I ran to my mate.
I stopped just shy of hugging him, and I looked up to see him giving me a genuine smile. “I missed you.” He said, leaning down to kiss me, he pulled me into an embrace that nearly crushed me, but it made my wolf pur. I kissed him back, and I could smell his scent was only his, and it satisfied Glitter. She was incredibly possessive of him it seems, and this girl better find her mate before Glitter chokes her out.
“I missed you too.” I told him, and we held hands back to the campsite. It was my wolf’s doing, though I can’t lie, I wanted his touch too. The girl looked unphased, but slightly hurt. I didn’t smell a mating or mark on her, so that was probably why, but my wolf didn’t care. To Glitter, she wanted a piece of my male, and that would not happen on either of our watch.
When we got to the camp, Bryson sat on the log in the center of the fire, and motioned for all to join around. I tossed him some jeans, and he put them on, and spoke. “This is Hazel. She saved me, and also gave me information. We must move. Tonight. The Wolf who calls himself Master wants the blood of strong wolves, so he can resurrect an ancient beast that slumbers under the ground.” He said with a growl.
“I could call my grandfather.” I told him, putting my hand on his shoulder.
“Yes, but in the meantime, we need to get out this area, because if they awaken that thing before he gets here, then there’s no telling what will happen.” He said, putting his elbows on his knees.
“If I may speak your highness…” Said the woman timidly. “I formally request to join you on your travels… but I know I cannot stay… I overstep.” She said looking away.
“What are you talking about?” Said Bryson sternly.
“I do not have a mate, and I can sense the hostility from her highness’s wolf. I do not wish to be mauled.” She stated with a bow…. She wasn’t wrong. “There is also the fact that ancient bloodlines are not to live in the same pack, though it isn’t unheard of.” She added.
“But you do have a mate.” Said Alex, everyone looked at him and he sat back down. “Well… out there somewhere.” He grumbled shyly. He looked at her longingly, but otherwise didn’t say anything else. I narrowed my eyes, but I left well enough alone. He was too young for his mate bond to solidify yet, and I didn’t want to get in the way.
“Enough, we waist time.” Said Bryson getting up, and walking to our tent. I tried helping him by packing my things up, but I also helped everyone else. I saw Hazel pull some green plant stems out her pockets. She put a little in the fire, and gave each of us a sprig.
“This is Betty’s tears, the flowers are poison, but the bitter smell of the stems blocks scent for about a day. She wafted the bitter smoke around my body in a circle, then took two steps toward my mate before hesitating, and handing the herbs to me. She bowed and left out our tent area. My wolf was at the forefront of my mind, waiting for her to get too close, but this level of jealousy was starting to worry me.
There was something about this girl that just rubbed me the wrong way. But I couldn’t ponder on this, as my phone rang. It was mom.
