The pups were eleven months old now, and all wet from their baths. They loudly complained the whole time, but the moment I set them down for one second, they tried to escape! They ran down the hall, leaving wet trails of water everywhere, and my mate didn’t help. He only laughed. So hard in fact, all he could do was hold his stomach. They were still only about 4 pounds each, but I chased them. Tyson had my hairdryer, because he was afraid of it.

“Tyson, Kaizen and Grace! Drop it Right Now!” I yelled, trapping them at the end of the hall. They could run as fast as I think a human, but they caught me off guard! I didn’t think he’d do it.

Papa! Papa! He yipped, telling on me, and I picked him up. He dropped the dryer.

It’s ok! I tried hugging him to sooth him, but he whined. They all did.

No! He protested, but with him captured, I could get the rest. I turned around and Bryson was directly in front of me, and gently patted his son. He was starting to shiver that he was wet, and Bryson helped me carry them down the hall to the bathroom.

“We need to get them dry before they get sick.” I warned and he nodded. He felt dangerous, but I was thankful I had the help…

Inside, I could smell my pup’s fear and it made me feel bad, but they could get sick like this. We used the dryer on low with a combination of fluffy towels. They whined, but my mate looked stern. He wanted to destroy what caused them fear, and I did too… but they did need this. “Our little ones.” Said my mate, he looked so concerned, almost whining like a wolf. He had been practicing how to speak it without Ven, so he could speak to the pups.

No! they protested, only knowing the three words. This time however it sounded less like begging for help, and more like complaining. I smiled looking at how absolutely fluffy they get, though it was only from being dried. They look much smoother when they’re brushed.

“There, happy now? I set them down and they were fine. They never liked being wet, but once they got in they liked the water, and when they got out they hated to get dry, but loved what it meant. Now I would take them downstairs.

They ran following me until they got to them. They looked at the long way down, and I would carry them to the last step, then let them walk. “Isabelle are you sure they’re ready?” Asked my mate who kneeled at the bottom, setting down grace next to me.

“No… but I’ve seen Kaizen try.” I told him. It drew a crowd, also a traffic jam behind me because none of them wanted to go. We all gave them encouragement, and Grace was the first to go. She pawed the next step down, but not wanting to put her foot all the way down.

It’s ok. Growled my mate, though it sounded more wolf than I thought it would….

Papa no... she whined quietly, getting awes from everyone, including my mate. I smelled minitour, and I instantly knew who it was.

“What’s all this?” Asked Jerold

“We’re trying to stair train them.” Said my mate, who went into the kitchen, and started cutting small cubes of venison, then fried them on a nonstick pan.

“That’s a good plan, but once they go down, I would like to speak with you.” He said with a small smile. Noah was behind him, but he wouldn’t let him pass because we all knew he came to cuddle them, not actually help.

They sniffed the air, and became less scared. They still drank milk, but we put it in a shallow dish while they all ate together. They were similar in size now, though Grace was still the smallest. When Grace took her step, her brothers soon followed. They wagged their small tails from the cheers of the Warriors, Beta, and Delta, but no one dared pass us unless they wanted to deal with Bryson.

I gave them kisses, and hugged them, carrying them back up, but they protested. Bryson had made them their breakfast, cooked a little for safety, and they wanted it now. They squealed their discontentment, but they would eat in the office while I heard the news my uncles brought.

We sat in our office chairs together while the pups ate next to us, and uncle Noah cleared his throat. “I guess I’ll start. Since I’m human, I got a chance to speak with the local XIII Sect leader of the Church, Father McCorry as a diversion. There is no way in hell they would just drop the chance to burn someone at the stake. I’ve also traveled to the Church in Italy, accompanying Queen Sky, because I don’t trust them. No one does. I was taken to their secret meeting hall to discuss Bryson’s fate. I told them everything, including his status as a Prince.” He said rubbing his mate’s back.

“To touch you would be to start a war, also they know you would only return stronger.” Said Jerold, but Bryson shook his head.

“I’m still the same.” He protested, but even I protested that. He felt like he was able to level the entire pack from border to border, but no one ever told him that.

“No, you have changed. I felt it at the council. And with that, comes its own problem. Though you all are heavily protected, there is still fear and suspicion thrown on you all. The Church, or even other Kings may attempt to neutralize you and yours on the grounds of prevention, knowing full well that it would end badly for everyone.” He looked at my pups, and let out a sad sigh. “They were outcasts before they were even born, but at least they have a loving family and pack…”

“That they do. Is there anything else?” Asked Bryson.

“The Church wishes to know the location of the pack, however that goes beyond their jurisdiction. Plus, I don’t trust them. Nor the vampires either because they feel the same.” He snorted a little steam.

“Diana has already given me this. Put this dust around the perimeter of your border, and even mortals with second sight cannot see this place. Also, their weapons will not work here. She could only do this for the humans, but your family is safe now. It is the magic of the royal fairy court, the Queen herself. She has used absolution magic twice for you now… and it confuses me because she’s a pretty selfish woman.” He sighed, holding Noah’s hand.

“She does not have to die for me.” He protested, but Jerold shook his head.

“Diana told me when she gave me this that she felt she needed to. She is the only one who’s magic is powerful enough to literally break reality, change the rules of it, and manipulate spaces within her walls. Though the cost of a spell so absolute is to die, and spend time in afterlife jail.” He said giving us a mason jar filled with dark blue glitter.

Bryson shook Jerold’s wrists. “I don’t know what to say… Except thank you. I will do this now; would you mind staying with my mate and pups?” He asked, and my uncles laughed.

“Watch one of my favorite nieces and sleeping puppies? I don’t know, seems an awful lot to ask.” He chuckled, and my mate grinned leaving.

“My lady did I just see Mr. Serious-Pants laugh?” Asked Noah, and I nodded, smiling myself. He seemed like he had a weight lifted off his shoulders.

They stayed in the office with me while the pups where completely knocked out with fat bellies. I typed quietly. “Is there any reason why you gave him that…?” I had a feeling that they were hiding something.

“Other than they have been mobilized since the meeting unable to pinpoint your pack, no. Diana’s spell was worded in a way that all he has to do is put it around one border, and it will spread to them all…. Especially the scorched earth that bare basically a homing beacon for the Church.” He said leaning back in the chair.

There was an almost human scream outside that made me jump, and Noah screamed, but Jerold stood calmly. He walked to the window and let out a sigh. “Your mate has I assume your dinner.”

“I woke up the pups, sorry.” He said sheepishly, bending down to pet them, and they gave him small licks. They yawned.

“It’s ok, they went back.” I smiled, smelling my mate’s scent before he came back up. But he smelled different.

He held up clawed hands, still smelling of blood, but he smiled proudly. “No wolf but I would like to think this is a start.” He smiled, showing bloody fangs.

“For you to take a boar this large as the man, the wolf is finally waking… I just hope he’s the same.” Said my uncle, and I became a little worried by his words.
