"I talked to him and warned him not to repeat such actions. However, he does have an excuse for being around you," Atticus spoke calmly, taking measured breaths, though he occasionally clenched his jaw.

"What excuse?" I asked, observing him as he tucked his chin in thought.

"That he's your mate. Though it doesn't justify his behavior, he claims he can't stop talking to you," Atticus seemed a bit uneasy discussing this issue with me.

"So maybe if you," he cleared his throat, subtly glancing around and implying that I reject Enzo.

I caught his message from his body language.

"Reject him? Yeah, I've been pondering that as well, but I'm not sure if he'll accept my rejection," I sighed, nodding my head as if contemplating the idea.

"Don't worry, I'll talk to him and persuade him to reject you myself. He's staying overnight anyway, so I'll have the chance to talk to him," he said, sounding enthusiastic and sporting a wide smile.

"That would be incredibly helpful," I replied, putting on a forced, sarcastic smile.

He was excited and turned to leave, presumably to persuade Enzo to reject me, but his steps came to an abrupt stop upon hearing something I muttered.

"I'll reject you both, and once you both accept the rejection, it'll be a relief," I mumbled.

He turned back quickly and narrowed his eyes at me.

"No!" He vigorously shook his head.

"Why would I reject you?" He leaned over me, his trim waist and broad shoulders giving him a striking appearance.

"I mean, don't you know I'm ill? Rejecting a mate could be harmful for me," he argued back, realizing how odd it sounded that he was resisting an idea he had suggested.

"Then wouldn't it hurt Enzo?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

"No! He's not ill," he hunched over even more, causing me to lower my head in slight hesitation. His gaze was intense and chilling, yet undeniably captivating.

"You know what... why didn't you tell me he had kissed you?" Now that I had annoyed him by suggesting his rejection would bring me relief, he began to scold me.

"Because you're not my daddy--I mean, father. I don't need to tell you everything," I replied, pointing firmly toward the door. "Maybe you should go and rest in your room," I sighed, avoiding eye contact.

"How about no?" he muttered, sounding irritated.

He proceeded to annoy me further by walking over to the bed and jumping on it. "I'm going to rest here."

The smug expression on his face and the way he casually moved his foot, placing it over the other, were making me increasingly anxious.

"Get out," I repeated myself, this time with a firmer and clearer command.

However, he simply shook his head and grinned, clearly relishing the fact that he was getting under my skin.

"Att--," I began to warn him to leave me alone when his phone rang, and he pulled it out while lying flat on his back now.

I assumed it was his friends calling from his room because he had almost forgotten about them.

"Zeon! Why are you calling me?" He lifted his head, but this time, there was no smirk or smile. I noticed the veins in his neck become visibly pronounced. Maybe he still remembered what I had told him about Mr. Holt's intentions last night. I certainly did.

It had been a terrible experience.

Nervously, I fiddled with my fingers, wondering why Zeon would be calling him.

"Oh! Who told you that?" he asked, but the way his eyes darted toward me made me suspect that it might be about me.

"Well, that's not true. There must have been some kind of misunderstanding. My friends are here, and as you know, they don't really get along... Cynthia has been locked in her room and hasn't come out all day," Atticus lied about my whereabouts, and it felt like a punch to the gut.

I suspected that Mr. Holt must have called Atticus to inquire about me or to find out where I had been all day.

"Sure, say hello to Maleeka!" Atticus used his Alpha tone with Zeon. It didn't take long before he hung up, tossed the phone aside, and lay back down.

"And?" I asked, frustrated that he made me inquire about it instead of explaining the phone call himself.

"What?" he mumbled.

"Atticus, why was he calling you?" I sighed, not liking that I had to ask him for this information.

"Somebody saw you walking on the road today, and they reported it to Zeon," he explained, finally getting up from the bed.

"Idiots! Why does he have people sending him information and updates?" I grumbled, realizing that Atticus was ready to leave now.

It struck me as odd how he had been in a playful mood before Mr. Holt's call. Perhaps it served as a reminder that I was married now.

"I'll be in my room," he said, walking out of the room, leaving me alone. Honestly, when Mr. Holt wasn't around, I felt such relief.

"I need to gather information about that girl. If I can tell Maleeka that he's receiving letters from another woman, maybe she'll finally decide to confront him," I mused aloud as I noticed Atticus's phone on my mattress.

I picked up his phone and began walking out of the room, intending to return it to him to avoid any accusations of tampering with it. As I approached his room, I heard voices coming from inside and couldn't resist the urge to eavesdrop on them.

"She's a fucking fey. I can't comprehend why you all haven't reported her to the council yet!" Rosalie's voice echoed, and I could tell she was furious.

It appeared she had just discovered my secret, and that filled me with fear. I treod hard to understand what it was with her that she couldn’t see me live my life peacefully?

"I'm going to contact them and inform them," she declared, making it clear she intended to be difficult and punish me.
