Cynthia Dion:

When Mr. Holt returned to the room with a meal tray, I started to settle into bed.

"The doctor said you're weak, and we need to run some tests," he mentioned. He placed the tray in front of me and sat on the bed. There were some mixed emotions on his face that I couldn't quite grasp at the moment.

"I'm okay; that won't be necessary," I replied quietly, shaking my head at the thought. I truly felt fine; it was just that stress had taken a toll on both my physical and emotional well-being.

"It's just a blood test," he reassured me, then watched as I started to eat my food.

"I don't have an appetite right now," I explained, my reluctance to eat stemming from the association of food with the chocolate I had foolishly used on my body.

"Cynthia!" He urged me to hold the tortilla in my hands, encouraging me to stop behaving childishly.

"I think the whole Maleeka incident is causing you a lot of stress," he said with a reassuring smile, "Don't worry about her; I've talked to her about changing her attitude toward you."

"You shouldn't have," I understood that the siblings might try to blame me for everything. I tried to convey to him not to provoke them further, as Atticus now had a lot of ammunition against me, starting with the mark on my neck. Moreover, I had no idea who had sent those messages. "She'll blame me for getting you to talk to her about backing off."

"Hm! Anyway, eat well and then rest. We'll schedule the blood test for the next day, and perhaps we can visit your parents' place to help you feel better," he smiled, got up from the bed, and left the room without waiting for my reply.

I believed seeing my sister would be a good idea. I was so drained by all the fake relationships around me that I was beginning to question their sincerity.

I followed his advice, finished the meal, and decided to take a nap. I had a feeling that tomorrow might be even more challenging after how today had gone.

More so now that Atticus has marked me and taken my virginity. What am I going to say to Mr. Holt now? Will he promise to refrain from touching me even if I refuse to have sex with him?

Mr. Holt insisted on staying in the room with me to make sure I was okay. I couldn't help but think he was only doing it because he was bored with Maleeka and didn't really care about me. He had a habit of shifting between us when he grew tired of one, staying with the other for a few days. It was surprising that he hadn't pressured me into losing my virginity to him, but I didn't want to bet on it being a long-term decision.

Atticus had given me hope of escaping, but now that I was on my own, there didn't seem to be much I could do. Since Atticus was the Alpha King, he could have helped me protect my sister from Mr. Holt's advances. But now that Atticus wasn't on my side, I feared that defying Mr. Holt might put my sister in danger.

Fortunately, Mr. Holt didn't attempt to get closer to me as I slept in the bed. In the morning, I could hear lots of clapping and giggling from outside. When I woke up, the bed was empty, and I rolled over onto my side, rubbing my eyes.

Mr. Holt was likely in the shower, as he had risen before me. He came out of the shower and began preparing for the day, wearing a blue shirt.

I lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, dreading the thought of facing Atticus again.

"Glad to see you're awake," he muttered as he combed his hair in front of the mirror. "Get ready for breakfast."

"I was thinking if I could have breakfast in the room, I'm not feeling very well," I tried to excuse myself from going outside and sitting with those unpleasant individuals.

The sister who falsely accused me and her obnoxious brother.

"No!" He responded in an abrupt and arrogant tone. "Get dressed. We'll go out for the blood test afterward."

"Actually, get dressed and just come along with me. You can have breakfast after the tests," he corrected himself, but it left me puzzled.

"Why is that?" I asked gently, "I'm okay."

"Really? You just told me you're unwell and want to stay here," he insisted on pulling me along. "Now stop making excuses and get a move on."

He sat down on the couch and gestured for me to get dressed, leaving me with no other choice. He intended to wait for me to get ready before leaving.

So, I dragged myself to the bathroom and took a quick shower. I had no choice but to put on blue pants and a green turtleneck sweater.

The unfortunate part was that I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it hidden from him for long due to my anxiety about being discovered.

"Ready to leave the room? And what's with your fondness for turtlenecks?" Mr. Holt asked, his eyes scrutinizing me closely. I was taken aback, and the comb slipped from my hand and fell to the ground when he suddenly brought up something I had been trying to keep hidden.

I started to feel anxious as he continued to narrow his eyes and cock his head at me, studying me with suspicion. If I didn't come up with a good excuse soon, he might insist that I remove the sweater and reveal the truth to him.

"Um, I'm feeling really cold at the moment," I fibbed, pausing to pick up the comb. As I got up and glanced behind me, I saw him say, "Ah!" His expression startled me, and I let out a scream. My heart raced because he was now close enough to inspect my neck.
