Cynthia Dion:

My resentment toward her melted away, and sympathy replaced it.

'Why didn't you clue me in?' I asked, careful not to set her off with a harsh tone. It was evident she had been through a tough time alongside me, living with the belief that she was a wicked wolf. Now, I regretted always raising my voice at her. Perhaps that's why she kept things from me. Regardless, I decided to stop tuning her out.

'I couldn't. I was scared. The first time I took over you, it was manipulated and downright painful,' she explained, shedding light on why she kept silent. I could see she feared I wouldn't believe her.

'How did you break free from the hypnotism?' I inquired, wary of the possibility of being hypnotized again. It was crucial to know how to break out of it if it happened.

'Remember when we lost the baby? That triggered our freedom. That day, he had to harm us because he realized he was about to lose control the moment the baby was born,' she pointed out. It dawned on me that it was the first time she took control, and I sensed she had regained consciousness.

'So, he's the reason Maleeka kept losing her babies? But why? What's his issue with her getting pregnant?' It made no sense why he wouldn't want an heir from such a powerful bloodline.

'I don't know, but what I do know is that Maleeka's baby won't survive again. Zeon will never allow it,' her words weighed heavily on my heart. So, Maleeka's life was in jeopardy?

'Thea, you've got to spill everything you know, and trust me--I believe you.' Once I grasped that I wasn't the sole victim of Mr. Holt, I offered words of comfort.

The door swung open, and my conversation was cut short by a maid delivering my dinner. "Alpha Atticus will be back later. He instructed me to bring you dinner," she said, offering a polite smile. They all had to be on their best behavior with me, thanks to Atticus's warning.

"Thanks," I reciprocated with a smile. However, before she could exit the room, I halted her to ask a question.

"Um, where's Maleeka?" I inquired, and her complexion shifted. Clearly aware of our history, my question about Maleeka seemed to have unsettled her.

"Where is she?" I pressed again, and she realized I wouldn't let it go until she spilled the details.

"She's not in the mansion," she replied, attempting to make a quick escape. I promptly got up and followed her outside.

"Hold on! What do you mean she's not in the mansion? Where is she?" I inquired, and she visibly gulped.

"I'm actually not allowed to talk to you about her," she mumbled, hoping I would understand.

"Nobody will find out you told me; I'll come up with a cover story," I reassured her, even though she'd likely face consequences.

"Mr. Zeon Holt has taken her out of his farmhouse for the night since she's been feeling anxious lately," she disclosed, and the revelation hit me like a silver bullet.

"He took her away for the night?" My heart sank. The way I stared at her made even her uneasy.

This was not good news. I knew what he intended to do to her. This was the night she would lose the baby, and he'd undoubtedly pin it on me once again.

I hurried back into my room to grab my phone and alert Atticus, only to realize my cellphone was missing. "Oh, shoot!" I cursed. Mr. Holt must have taken my phone, probably to concoct some pre-planned texts between us.

Maleeka's life was at stake, and I couldn't afford to wait for something to happen. I snatched my sweater and devised a plan to go after him and rescue Maleeka.

I started sprinting towards the location where I believed Mr. Holt and Maleeka would be. The night had turned stormy, but my determination didn't waver. I was too afraid for Maleeka's safety to waste a single minute informing Atticus about it.

Taking matters into my own hands was a direct result of my guilt over harming her in the past. Saving Maleeka's baby became my priority, even if it meant sacrificing my reputation. The farmhouse, as expected, was situated in a secluded area, surrounded by trees, with a beautiful mansion nestled among them. It exuded luxury, but curiously, there were no guards in sight.

Perhaps, it was intentional that he didn't assign guards to follow him, just as he did with me. He wanted to ensure there were no protectors around for the Alpha's sister.

I rushed along the side of the pool and approached a large window to peer inside and figure out what was happening. Through the glass, I saw Maleeka seated on a couch, engrossed in a book, while Mr. Holt was nowhere in sight.

He emerged slowly from the shadows and took a seat beside her. My heart pounded in my chest as I watched him with her. I feared he was planning to harm the baby tonight, and once again, he would frame me as the culprit.

"See! I told you that mansion makes you worry about everything," Mr. Holt muttered, but the smile on his face seemed artificial.

"You were right. As long as she is there, I cannot rest in peace," she added with a despondent sigh.

"That's why I took you out for the night. You'll feel much better when you're away from her and her negativity," the way he spoke about me sent a surge of anger through my veins. He should be the one facing punishment and condemnation, yet here he was, accusing me of nonsense.

"You're right," she concurred with him. Maleeka rose from her seat and positioned herself in front of him, leaning her back against his chest. The expression on his face shifted for a moment before he forced a smile. It was unsettling how he wasn't even honest with his mate.

There was no chemistry; he was always dull and put in no effort, while she did the most.

"I was thinking about my brother; he is so unlucky. Both his mates turned out bad and rotten," she brought up me and Mara, little did she know her mate was a complete scumbag.
