"Maleeka! Listen to me," Atticus broke the hug and cradled her face in his hands. "That man could be lying; even if there's a slight chance that he's lying about the whole hypnotism thing, tell me how you would feel leaving your child with a man who, even for a minute, you know cares nothing about you or your child. Tell me." Atticus was trying to persuade her not to let Mr. Holt control her, but she was madly in love with this man and wasn’t ready to believe anybody else over him for life.

"I know he is telling the truth. I used to think maybe he was lying, but not anymore," she sounded confident enough, and that baffled my mind. There is no way a woman would forgive or want to believe a man who is this murderous.

"Maleeka! He can be----," Atticus believed me, so he wasn’t blindly accepting Maleeka's trust in Mr. Holt.

"Are you going to bring him home or not, Atticus? If he doesn’t come home, then either I will leave with him or I will le---ave you all," the way her voice broke at the end, I felt the pain in her heart. Atticus and I knew that if she left to live with him, she would be dead in no time. There would be no stopping him from hurting her, getting away, and staying in hiding. The way that man was, I don’t even think he cared about money. He would rather stay somewhere, hiding after he has done killing us all, than stay here and see us breathe for money. That’s what makes him the scariest man.

"Even if I want, for your own safet---," Atticus was saying when I decided to jump in. That is not how it was going to work because not only would we lose Maleeka, but Mr. Holt would also be out of our sight, and a demon like him needs to stay in our sight so that we can predict his next step.

"Maleeka! I will apologize to him." I know it was about me because I was the one talking about justice, all for me. Atticus gasped while Maleeka turned around and watched my face in shock. She didn’t know I would take such a step for her.

"What are you saying?" Atticus asked me, eyeing me, not to continue talking, but I knew what I was doing.

"You can call him; he can come home. There will be no investigation, and I will bow down to apologize to him," I stated loud and clear this time. I was tired of Mr. Holt playing us all. It was time to make him think he had won, and then I would strike.

"Really? You would do that?" Maleeka asked me in surprise. She definitely didn’t see it coming that I’d be willing to bring Mr. Holt back instead of celebrating his departure.

"I’ll," I nodded, "just for you!" As I finished, she frowned in bewilderment because, until now, she thought I disliked seeing her happy.

"We should give it a thought first," Atticus said, eyeing me disapprovingly once again. Maleeka turned around to ask him to question his intentions.

"Do you not want to see me happy?" She asked in a broken whisper, "I expected her to not care, but surprisingly enough, my own brother is against the idea of me getting any sort of happiness," she made sure Atticus felt bad, and he did.

Once Atticus didn’t say anything back to her, she turned around and walked out of the room to probably tell Mr. Holt that she had convinced everyone to treat him right. Now that only Atticus and I were left in the room, I felt an awkward vibe passing between us.

"What did you do? Why did you tell her you would apologize to her and we would stop the investigation?" Atticus questioned as he made deep eye contact with me.

"Do you think she was going to rest until she brought that mate of hers back?" I questioned in return, "I am not saying I will surrender; I will just pretend to surrender," I added to help him know I am not forgiving that man.

He looked away from me, looking all unhappy and disappointed, so I felt a need to first persuade him that it was the best plan we could come up with for now.

"Atticus!" I approached him and held his hand between my hands. "I understand what you are feeling right now, but trust me, this is the only way we can grab and trap him. Right now, he has run away from us. Without his presence, we can’t even find out the truth. Then we have Maleeka, who is ready to harm herself for him. Everything combined. We need to act wisely in order to lay a perfect trap for him," I made him look through my eyes, and with a huge sigh heaving across his lips, he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me over his chest.

"I don’t know what to say. You are doing all this for the comfort of my sister, because I know we can just arrest that man. Seriously, it means a lot to me, Cynthia," his arms around me tightened, and I smiled in his arms.

"Now let’s get ready and deal with this mess," I said as I broke the hug and tried walking away from him.

"Cynthia! What do you think we can do if he is so scared of the investigation? How can we stop it from happening again?" Atticus inquired as he narrowed his eyes at me.

"I know the right way. We need to give him a reason to stay, but for that, we first need to find out what he holds dear?" I said as I stroked my chin. From all I can think of, he was attracted to our misery. I mean, he knew Maleeka would somehow convince us to call him back, as he never really planned to leave while we were happy and thriving.

So whatever it is, we need to find a way to make him stick around and drop the very thought of leaving the mansion, even if it is for the purpose of playing.

I took a shower and got ready, wearing black jeans and a black shirt, while Atticus matched with me. Maleeka had gotten dressed up way earlier than us, as she couldn’t wait to bring her mate back home.

I found it rather disturbing that she was walking in the garden, waiting for us.
