Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 171: Chap-171*The Man-Wh*re Mate Of My Sister-In-Law*
Cynthia Dion:
'Maybe you're forgetting all the things this good-looking guy put us through,' I snapped at her irritably, 'Oh, right! You were still sleeping back then, weren't you?' I teased her for always staying hidden when I needed her. She spoke to me when I turned 18, and then vanished without helping me out.
'Well, to be fair, what would you do if you found out that Atticus had harmed Flora?' she asked, attempting to make a point.
'I'll make sure he gets the harshest punishment,' I began, but she began celebrating before I could finish.
'Exactly what he deserves,' she said with too much joy, trying to prove her point. But if only she had let me finish on time.
'But,' I continued, 'I'll make sure to gather solid evidence against him first,' I finished, shaking my head at her. Where was she now? Why wasn't she celebrating now?
'What if your sister tells you he did all that to you, but he says he didn't? Who will you believe?' She set another trap, and I knew what she was getting at, but I had a response ready.
'Then I'd be curious to see any solid evidence,' I nodded, waiting for her comeback.
'But what if she has proof?' Her voice had started to lower, and the excitement in her tone was beginning to fade.
'The texts don't count. Anyone can send some texts, especially in a situation where my phone wasn't even with me most of the time,' I clarified, trying to address her concerns. But it seemed like there was more bothering her.
'What if there's more than that?' This time, she sounded down, and my heart almost skipped a beat.
'Don't worry, there's nothing more. I didn't do anything, so don't get all worked up,' I reassured her, speaking in a soothing tone. I didn't want her to be anxious about my past actions.
I opened my eyes and saw Atticus sprawled uncomfortably on the small couch. He was tall and broad, and that couch seemed really cramped for him. At first, I didn't want to dwell on how uncomfortable he must have felt, because my life had been uncomfortable because of him. But then I recalled all the things he had done to make amends.
'He's not even sure if you're innocent, yet he's still trying to win your forgiveness. Do you think you'd do the same if it had happened to Flora instead of Maleeka?' I didn't understand why, but Thea was a die-hard Atticus supporter. She always took his side, but I doubted I could ever forgive him.
I got out of bed and let out a deep sigh. "You can sleep in the bed. I'm not sleepy anyway," I told him. He rolled his eyes and covered his face with his arm.
'Huh! 'Redeemed himself,' my foot! Look at that attitude,' I grumbled angrily at Thea, blaming her for making me offer him help.
'This is his bed; you're not doing him any favors. Besides, that eye roll was cute,' she completely brushed aside the real issue and focused on admiring his looks.
"Fine, stay in here and rot," I muttered as I walked to the door to step outside and get some fresh air.
"They'll be waiting outside," he interrupted my steps, "I'll come with you." He hopped off the bed to accompany me and protect me from them.
Even though I was still upset with him, his attempts to watch over me and ensure my safety warmed my heart just a bit. I didn't say anything but rolled my eyes to let him know I didn't need his help. As we left the room, I saw a sight I wished I hadn't witnessed.
It was Mara, approaching us, with Maleeka by her side.
Ugh! Why did I leave the room? Now I'd have to face her.
"I'm so glad you've come. I was starting to feel suffocated," Maleeka rolled her eyes when glancing in my direction.
"Yeah, now she'll breathe in your mouth and help you survive," I mumbled under my breath, shaking my head at the two pretending to be best friends forever. The fact that Maleeka had readily accepted Mara as her brother's mate, despite knowing that she used to be my friend, told me that Maleeka didn't care about her brother's happiness. She just wanted to use him to hurt me.
"Now go take care of your man," Maleeka nudged Mara forward playfully, seemingly to irritate me.
"Atticus!" Mara pronounced his name with a little giggle. What a pain! I knew she was mad at him and probably wanted to strangle me, but she concealed her anger just to make him believe she was an easily forgivable sweetheart.
But obviously, Atticus knew her, and he wouldn't dare entertain her.
"Mara! I'm glad you came," well, that guy took my words way too seriously, leaving me furious with the warmth of his greeting.
Atticus approached her, taking her hands in his with genuine affection, welcoming her back into his life with a lot of love.
"Really? You're glad to see me here?" Even she seemed surprised by his exuberant welcome.
"Of cour---se he is," Maleeka stepped in, appearing a bit uncertain but trying not to show it. "I told you he cares about you. He understands it was your father's doing, not yours. He'll never forgive an abuser and won't punish an innocent person." As she said those words, her gaze shifted from me to Mara.
"Where can I stay?" Mara asked, forming a pout with her lips, her eyes alternating between watching Atticus and occasionally glancing at me.
"You're staying in my heart. Isn't that enough for you?" Atticus said with great affection. It felt like one of my bones almost cracked, but don't get me wrong, I'm not jealous!
I don’t care who he fucks!
I kept repeating those words in my head, trying to convince myself I wasn't jealous. But then Thea, that meddlesome Thea, made me act up.
"Huh! What's she going to do with that heart of yours? She wants a nice, fancy room with all the luxuries in it," I blurted out, and it was definitely not me. Thea was taking control and making me feel embarrassed. Everyone fell silent and then Maleeka stepped forward.
"Can you please tell her to be quiet?" Maleeka asked Atticus.
Atticus glanced at me and smiled, mouthing, "Do you still want me to flirt with her?"
"I don't give a flying fuck," I mouthed back, shrugging my shoulders. His smile vanished, replaced by an expression of weariness.
"Atticus, why don't you show Mara to her room?" Maleeka suggested, looking at me and smiling. She had no idea why Atticus was behaving this way, especially after he'd clearly told her he wouldn't accept her. Well, I knew what had happened. My own foolishness had brought him to this point.
"Sure!" Atticus walked away with her, albeit reluctantly. I could tell he was apprehensive that Maleeka might say something hurtful to me. He kept sneakily turning around to check on us. As expected, Maleeka approached me to have a word.
"Not everyone is a gold digger," she remarked, smirking as she took the opportunity to create further tension between Atticus and me.
"I know, it's just Mara and that... that awful husband of yours," the words that slipped from my mouth were Thea's doing. I would never have engaged in such an argument, but Thea was running the show now. Those words caused Maleeka to step back and stare at my face in shock. She looked as if she'd seen a ghost.
