Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 139: Chap-139*A Helping Hand.*
Cynthia Dion:
"Oh! Is that the truth?" Maleeka struggled to stifle her smirk, keeping it hidden beneath a facade of sorrow. She bit her inner cheek, feigning sorrow, but her subtle nods betrayed her true thoughts. The idea that she had wished for that outcome made my stomach churn.
"Let her have some peace for now," the doctor advised. "I need to unwind." She allowed them to leave me in solitude momentarily, and as they departed, I parted my lips and released a weary sigh.
I lay fully awake, my breath steady, acutely aware of my surroundings. My mind teemed with concerns: the looming possibility of never being able to conceive again, the heart-wrenching loss of my child, and the anticipation of my wolf finally stirring.
My wolf!
I attempted to feign enthusiasm for her awakening, yet my voice quivered as I lamented, "You took an eternity to rouse."
I harbored no anger toward her for her consistent absence when I needed her presence the most. Nevertheless, I couldn't help but feel a tinge of disappointment, as her presence could have ushered in significant changes.
‘Please save me,’ Her sudden plea triggered a grimace on my face.
Who could pose a threat to her when she had only just awakened?
‘What?’ These were the first people she had come across since her awakening, and I couldn't help but wonder if she was frightened of Maleeka and Mara.
‘Protect me,’ she reiterated, her voice tugging at my heartstrings.
‘Thea!’ Speaking her name again after such a long time felt reassuring. It served as a reminder that, even when she couldn't shift, I had still embraced her and given her a name.
Her voice gentled as she responded, ‘Thank you, thank you for bestowing a name upon me, even when I may not deserve it. I appreciate it.’
‘Why?’ Although I remained unaware of what might ail her, I suspected it could be linked to her tardy awakening.
‘I've disappointed you countless times,’ she breathed deeply, steadying herself for a quiet conversation.
‘I assume it wasn't solely your fault. Perhaps I never desired you as fervently as I yearned for a mate. I should have placed my trust in you instead of an alpha king who eagerly embraced the first chance to be with my friend,’ I sighed, my prayer silent but fervent, that she would never leave me again. I knew it was unusual to lose a wolf once fully bonded, but my arduous journey to obtain her had left me particularly fearful of such a fate.
She uttered, ‘If you can find it in your heart to forgive me, please do.’
‘You needn't apologize for anything. You've done nothing wrong. But now that you're awake, we can finally take a stand for us. With your formidable powers and strength, I believe we can start anew in another country with Flora,’ I managed a faint smile, burying the lingering trauma deep within my mind.
‘You don't understand,’ she began to whisper, her voice quivering with sobs once more. Perhaps she was overwhelmed by the realization of our loss.
‘Thea, take some rest for now; I suspect you're simply traumatized by our initial encounter, which was both dreadful and painful,’ I murmured, giving her space to unwind. Even if it takes a few days to ease her into this life, I am committed to doing it for her. I'm thrilled to have her with me now.
She had come to my side, so I wasn't alone. We both dozed off for several hours. Occasionally, I drifted into slumber, but I remained conscious of the doctor and nurse returning periodically to check on my progress.
Once again, as I began to stir, dread washed over me upon seeing the faces I had hoped to avoid. While the doctor measured my blood pressure, Mr. Holt, Mara, and Maleeka stood behind her.
Considering that Atticus had severed our relationship the day after humiliating me severely, it was possible that he had no desire to visit me here.
As I caught sight of Mr. Holt, an odd wave of dread washed over me. My eyes welled up with tears, and my throat felt parched.
"Are you alright?" The doctor noticed my gaze and inquired, seeking the cause of my distress.
I pointed at Mr. Holt, who adjusted his glasses and moved closer, asking, "Is he your husband?"
"I am Zeon Holt, the Royal Beta," his introduction conveyed his discomfort with the doctor mentioning him to me.
"I'm Maleeka, the sister of the Alpha King," Maleeka stepped forward, holding her husband's hand in a display of support.
"I am well aware of both your identities, but my patient requires my immediate attention," the doctor attempted to dismiss them, but Mara decided to interject.
"I am Mara. Are you familiar with me?" She had the audacity to wear a cheerful expression in such a situation. I observed her and couldn't help but roll my eyes. She had recently revealed her true character, making me realize that she had never been a friend but always a snake.
"I'm aware," the elegant lady doctor responded, casting a stern glance that wiped the smile off Mara's face.
"I am the Alpha King's mate," she persisted in introducing herself with Atticus' name. It was a moment of pride for her. After all, she had betrayed her friend to secure such a powerful mate. She appeared to be anticipating that the doctor would defer to her.
"Alright, congratulations," the doctor replied, choosing to disregard further conversation with Mara. I focused on regulating my breathing, fixating my gaze on Mr. Holt, which prompted the doctor to glance at me and then at Mr. Holt.
After assessing my condition, the doctor turned to face him.
"May I inquire about your whereabouts at the time of her accident? Your presence seems to have agitated her for some reason," she had the confidence to turn and address Mr. Holt. The expressions on all their faces were captivating to witness. No one had ever stood up for me before, so it both annoyed them and caught Mr. Holt off guard.
