Once we got back home, I reunited with my overly concerned husband. The guards must've informed him about what they witnessed when I left school to sit in Atticus' car. Mr. Holt was already standing in the parking lot, eagerly awaiting my return.

"Cynthia! What happened to you, my lovely wife?" Mr. Holt's voice seemed rather contrived. He hurried over, calling my name, and gently held my arms and face in his hands. Mr. Holt and I chatted as Atticus stood beside us, observing.

"Eh! I'm okay," I mumbled, but when I tried to free myself from his grasp, he just tightened his hold on my cheeks.

"What happened to her?" Mr. Holt asked Atticus this time, as if he were some kind of security guard assigned to protect me.

"Did someone bully her?" Mr. Holt bombarded Atticus with all these questions, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his feigned concern.

"I won a ticket to the contest today," just talking about what happened on the practice field earlier brought a slight smile to my face. Atticus already seemed quite annoyed while he watched us, so I didn't want to give him more reason to explain to Mr. Holt why I was all disheveled.

Finally releasing my forehead from his grasp, allowing me to breathe freely, he frowned and asked, "You won a spot today?"

I don't know why, but it appeared that he wasn't too pleased, even though he had been my trainer and had promised to assist me with my training.

"Yeah," I replied with a touch of coldness.

"Cynthia, my dear, you know I can't stand to see you in pain," Mr. Holt placed his hand on the back of my neck, and I felt a pull toward him. His touch made me jump a little.

At the same time, he was giving Atticus a sidelong glance, clearly trying to make Atticus jealous. Atticus grunted and moved away from us.

"She'll recover once she transforms," Atticus eventually chimed in, briefly making eye contact with me before Mr. Holt began pulling me closer to his chest. It was becoming increasingly uncomfortable for both of us.

I wasn't going to allow him to manipulate me, knowing that he was intentionally being affectionate with me in public. I pushed him away.

When he saw me scowling at him and conveying through my eyes not to approach me again, his eyes widened in astonishment.

"My wounds are hurting because you keep touching me," I said aloud, staring him in the eyes. He didn't appreciate me saying these things in front of Atticus and Maleeka, who had just joined us. He appeared quite taken aback, and I responded with bitterness.

"What happened to her?" Maleeka inquired, but her tone was far from mocking. Sometimes, she wore expressions of a concerned older sister looking at her sibling in pain.

"She won the---" Before Atticus could finish, Mr. Holt grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to him, although this time, his touch hurt my body more than before.

"Let's get you cleaned up," Mr. Holt suggested, but I found it hard to believe that anyone would genuinely take him seriously. His concern seemed entirely feigned.

I wondered what he would do once he took me to the room because I could sense his current irritation with me.

"Could Mal---eeka help me with the cleaning?" Instead of accepting Mr. Holt's offer, I turned to Maleeka for assistance because I felt uneasy about being alone with Mr. Holt. Even Maleeka seemed to understand my reasons when Mr. Holt directed his gaze towards her. I knew I was asking for a lot.

"Sure!" Maleeka skillfully freed my arm from his grasp by bending forward and said, "I believe I can do a better job."

I didn't witness what happened next as I started to follow her, but I hoped he wouldn't follow us, though unfortunately, he did.

Maleeka had only brought me to my room and sat me down when the door swung open, and Mr. Holt entered once more.

"Zeon! It's okay. I'll be cautious," she said, rolling her eyes and giving him a disdainful look.

"I'm not here for her. In fact, it was your doctor. She called to confirm if we were still coming," I had no clue about Mr. Holt's feelings regarding the distrust resulting from his actions, and the need to repeatedly prove his sincerity when he displayed his phone, but it was all due to his own actions.

"Wait!" she asked in a panicked tone, "Why?" and her expression shifted to one of sadness.

"You two are free to go. I can take care of myself," I excused myself. I didn't want her to miss her appointment because of me.

"Alright! Thank you. Take this and apply it after cleaning the wounds," After giving me the medication, she stood up to retrieve her purse.

Mr. Holt seemed to be in despair as well, but the fact that he refrained from giving me a hostile glare indicated that he had more pressing concerns than making my life miserable.

I heard Mr. Holt grunt at me as I was about to walk past him, "We'll talk once I return home," his warning compelled me to lower my gaze and swiftly exit the room. I had thought he wouldn't convey a threat, but he did.

I made my way to my room, offering a silent thank-you to the heavens for granting me some moments of solitude. Once inside, I turned and locked the door. Even though he possessed a key to my room, I simply felt safer this way.

"It's okay. If they can't apply the medicine to your wounds, I can," I heard a seductive and husky whisper coming from right behind me. When I felt his solid body pressing against my back, I shuddered involuntarily.

He had me completely blocked by the door, his strong physique pressed tightly against my back, preventing me from turning around and meeting his gaze. The tip of his finger traced up my spine, sending a shiver coursing through me.

"Atticus!" I murmured under my breath.

I should have pushed him out of my room, but for a moment, I was frozen in place, captivated by something in his scent that once again had me losing control.
