I writhed and let out agonized screams, drowned by my own tears and sobs.

"Tell me, or I'll harm your sister," I began to weep, but when he threatened, I ceased. Mentioning her in this situation wasn't fair to her. It wasn't her fault. I couldn't allow it.

"This blood comes from my bite mark on the back," I hurriedly clarified, regaining composure. Just as he raised his hand to strike me once more, I cried out in fear, "I swear!"

Seeing that he paused his hand in midair, I decided to complete the sentence. "I was trying to clean it and accidentally stained the bed." I turned around promptly and lifted my sweater. Luckily, I still had an old sweatshirt on underneath, marked with blood stains.

As I finally reached for the gauze and unwrapped it, the blood began to flow once more.

I pleaded with him, allowing my cardigan to fall and once again conceal my back. "I didn't lose my virginity. Please, believe me," I implored before him. This period of my life was something I despised, as I had never felt so utterly helpless before.

"So, why did you run?" He continued to exhale loudly through his nose, demanding a clear-cut answer.

"The power went out, and I thought I saw a monster in the room, and I got scared," It wasn’t an untruth when I said that. There was someone in the room who assaulted my purity, as well as my innocent heart and sentiments, and that monster was Atticus.

"A monster?" This time, he spoke with a somewhat softer tone, "The monster your sister mentioned? Is that why you were so frightened when you first saw me in your room?" Thankfully, pieces of the puzzle were starting to come together for me.

"Yes, yes!" I affirmed, wanting to keep him from pondering another scenario. He was closely watching my pleading hands.

He gazed at my face and then burst into laughter, but not a maniacal one. It was more like the kind of laugh you let out when you find someone irresistibly charming.

"Come on, there's no monster here," he said, his laughter fading as he zoned out for a moment.

"Why is it that you girls are always searching for monsters?" he mused aloud in a gentle tone, speaking to himself.

"I believed you slept with Atticus because you were upset about accusing me of sending those texts and then left," he smacked his head, making me wonder if it was really that simple to deceive him. Nevertheless, I nodded and continued to listen.

There was only so much my body could tolerate. I wasn’t a werewolf, just a fragile teenage girl that they were kicking around like a frea*king football.

"Let me dress your wound," he said and took hold of my hand, gently urging me to sit down. I didn't resist or offer any excuses; I just wanted the pain to subside. He lifted my shirt until the bite mark was exposed, then began applying the medication.

"Whoever this Omega wolf was that left this mark on your back, I'd like to give them a piece of my mind," he growled as if he had never caused me any harm.

"I'll provide you with some painkillers and other medications to help you recover faster. Clean up and prepare some soup for madam," he instructed before heading to the door to call for a maid.

I didn't mind that he was tending to me now. I was in a vulnerable situation, and when you're down and out, you can't be picky.

All I really wanted was to avoid any further harm for the next couple of days so I could heal and participate in the competition. But how could I compete in the contest anyhow? Not that I had a wolf that would help me win, and even if I did, I wouldn't make it to the final round.

"What's on your mind?" He guided me into bed with my back against the mattress, so he could spoon-feed me the soup himself.

"I was thinking about the competition," I mumbled, feeling a desperate need to drift off to sleep.

"Don't worry about it; I've already added the healing potion," he reassured me while continuing to feed me.

"Whether your wolf has awakened or not, this remedy contains vampire blood. It'll help you recover swiftly, and then we can train," he said, wearing a reassuring expression.

"Can I inquire about something?" I asked, and he turned his head towards me.

"Why can't you be kind all the time?" I whispered, my lips curling into a slight frown. He didn't answer, but he did zone out for a few seconds. Why did he allow his facade to slip so easily, as if he wasn't even trying to win my affection?

At least he was being polite now, which put my mind at ease. I finished the soup, took the medication, and then followed his instructions, lying down on the bed.

He remained unaware that I had deceived him about any further encounters with Atticus; I couldn't even bring myself to discuss them with myself.

I drifted off and managed to get several hours of much-needed sleep. As I began to regain my strength, I noticed that dawn had already broken.

I was fully healed now, and it seemed that Mr. Holt had gone to work, as a note on the side table indicated. I couldn't help but wish I were a vampire; they heal so quickly.

After taking a shower, I went to visit Maleeka. I thought about telling her that I didn't send those messages, hoping to prevent Atticus from starting to bully me now. If I didn’t clear my name before her, her brother would make my life even worse.

All the maids provided the same answer when I inquired about the siblings' whereabouts. Each of them confirmed that they hadn't seen Maleeka leave her room since the previous night.

Did this mean that Maleeka hadn't left her room since arriving here? It concerned me, especially given that this occurred shortly after the texts were exposed.

Was she upset with me?
