Cynthia Dion:

"What is going on here?" Mara stepped forward, demanding an explanation even though she had overheard everything. She left the door wide open, ensuring that anyone who hadn't heard the neighbor's slurs could now listen in. I stayed silent and let Atticus handle the situation with his mate.

"Ugh!" Atticus grunted, visibly frustrated as he paced back and forth.

"This is what I've feared from the start. I knew she would gain your sympathy," Mara yelled, tears welling up in her eyes, her lips downturned in disappointment.

"Why my mate? Didn't you feel satisfied after taking other people's mates? Why mine now?" Mara stormed inside to confront me, her voice filled with anger and despair. I noticed our neighbors peeking in, expressing sympathy for Mara, who was crying profusely.

I stood up, my voice quivering with emotion. "I did this to you?" I asked incredulously. "Out of all the people in the world, you should be the last one to question my character, given that you knew how I always tried to protect myself from the men my father brought here." Tears streamed down my face as I shouted at her, my emotions matching her intensity.

The room was filled with gasps as I slapped Mara, and she retaliated by raising her hand to strike me. But before she could, someone grabbed her hand, preventing her from hitting me. It was Atticus, who was glaring at Mara with intensity.

"You cannot hurt her," he muttered, maintaining his piercing eye contact with her. His voice grew louder as he repeated, "YOU DON'T GET TO HURT HER." With that, he forcefully pushed her backward, and the neighbors rushed to catch her and prevent her from falling.

As Mara felt defeated, she screamed to get everyone's attention, pointing at her red, swollen cheek where I had slapped her. Jack entered the room and frowned at the chaotic scene. The angry neighbors were looking at me with disgust, as if they wanted to condemn me.

Jack shouted, "Are you all insane?" However, his father grabbed his hand and pushed him out of the house.

One of the neighbors started to say something, but her steps halted when Atticus stepped in front of me, blocking their way and protecting me.

Atticus's stern voice, coupled with the protective stance he had taken in front of me, sent shivers down my spine. I was torn between wanting to push him away and tell him to leave me alone and not wanting to confront the angry crowd.

Mara was still crying and hurling accusations at me, claiming I had trapped men. This accusation stung, and I couldn't help but feel disgusted at her unjust judgment.

In response, Atticus warned Mara, pointing his finger at her and demanding her immediate departure. He wanted to diffuse the situation and get rid of the crowd.

"Why don't you fucking take your mate and leave? I don't want anyone here with me," I yelled at the top of my lungs.

My outburst left Atticus and the surrounding crowd in shock. I had reached my breaking point, tired of being blamed for everything and tired of the constant scrutiny. I couldn't stand people falsely accusing me of controlling Atticus or trapping him.

Mara was still in disbelief at my response. She didn't seem to understand why I wanted her to take Atticus and leave. Atticus himself looked taken aback by my words.

"I am done with this. You all can think what you want, but I won't stay here to be a target for your judgments," I continued, not holding back. My emotions had taken over, and I was venting my frustrations in front of everyone.

My father's sudden entrance made the room grow quiet. I could feel the tension in the air as he observed the situation. His expression was a mix of anger and confusion, as he had no idea what had unfolded while he was gone.

"Father, you should go with them," I told him, hoping that I could keep at least one of these men away from the chaos that seemed to follow me everywhere.

"What is happening here?" my father asked, directing his gaze toward Atticus and Mara.

"The real question is, why is your daughter always in the middle of such chaos?" one of the neighbors said, taking the opportunity to point fingers at me again.

The whole situation had become a chaotic mess, and I couldn't help but wonder how things had escalated so quickly.

"Atticus, please listen to me," I pleaded with him, stepping closer. "You being here will only make matters worse. They are accusing me of controlling you, and I can't handle this anymore. You need to go."

He looked at me with a mixture of anger, frustration, and concern in his eyes. We stood there, locked in a silent struggle, each of us determined in our own way.

After a moment, he sighed deeply and took a step back. "Fine," he finally agreed, but his voice was heavy with reluctance.

My heart ached as I watched him turn and head toward the door. I couldn't help but wonder where this decision would lead us and what it would mean for our complicated relationship.

Atticus stared at me with a mixture of frustration and disappointment, and then he finally spoke to my father, "I understand your concerns, and I don't want to cause any more trouble for Cynthia and her family. I'll leave for now."

He paused for a moment, studying my expression, perhaps anticipating me to intervene. But I wouldn't put a stop to it. I had no desire for his company. He had inflicted ample harm on me over time, so it was preferable for him to depart.

I watched as Atticus turned and walked out of the house, and as he left, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. The tension that had filled the room began to dissipate, and I knew that for now, I needed some space to breathe and sort out my thoughts.

My father nodded in approval, and I saw the relief in his eyes as well. Atticus's presence had clearly put a strain on him, and he was desperate to protect our family's reputation.

As I closed the door behind Atticus, I couldn't help but wonder what would happen next and how our complex relationship would continue to evolve.
