Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 164: Chap-164*Something Isn't Adding Up.*
Cynthia Dion:
Just when I thought he'd finally depart, having already stepped out the door, I witnessed him returning, wearing a visibly distressed expression. It didn't take more than a few minutes; he quite literally came back immediately.
"Why have you come back?" I whispered sharply.
"I'm not going anywhere," he replied with a harsh tone.
"Of course he's not going anywhere. You have him in your grip," as Mara started to speak again, Atticus silenced her with a stern glare.
"Mara! Leave this place immediately," Atticus cautioned her, pointing his finger, urging her departure so that the crazy neighbors could follow suit.
"Why? I'm not abandoning you with her," she yelled at the top of her lungs, causing the women behind me to turn their attention to us, their faces contorted with disdain.
"How about you take him and go," I stepped out from behind him and raised my voice at her. Atticus was taken aback by my words, and he turned to look at me in disbelief.
"No, I'm serious. I'm tired of being blamed for everything. Can't you see these people glaring at me in disgust, even though it's clear that Atticus here is acting on his own accord, and I'm not controlling him? The idea that an omega like me is manipulating the Alpha is just a mockery," I shouted, my eyes dry and devoid of tears.
"Mara, please, just leave!" Atticus, now infuriated with her for pushing me to ask him to leave as well, closed his eyes.
"You're leaving with her. I don't want these prying eyes observing me because you're lingering here," I shot back, distancing myself from him and giving him a fierce look. "Go, Atticus! I can handle things on my own," I said through gritted teeth, closing my eyes in frustration as they accused me because of these onlookers.
"I'm not..." Atticus began softly, but his words were cut off when my father entered and surveyed the people around him.
"Alpha Atticus! I'll look after her, and I'll even let..." he trailed off, scanning the room to find someone Atticus could trust, "someone be here with her. But please, you should leave. We've already endured enough embarrassment, and your presence is only causing us more distress," my dad pleaded, glancing around until his eyes settled on Mara, who seemed determined to hound me unless I pushed Atticus away from here.
"No! I've made a promise to myself that I'll take care of her," Atticus murmured, keeping his voice low so as not to be overheard by the locals.
"I'm begging you to go," I interjected, placing myself between them and pointing at Atticus. "Your presence is causing me stress. Why can't you understand something so simple?" I exclaimed, clenching my fists.
"This isn't the right way to address the Alpha," my father chided me. "Alpha Atticus, please have mercy on us humble folks. We can't bear all these accusations and insults. You must depart. She is your brother-in-law's ex-wife. It's not appropriate for you to remain here," my dad mumbled, pressing his palms together before Atticus, who stepped back but maintained eye contact with me.
I recall the divorce being finalized when I was sent to that peculiar doctor's residence. Yet Mr. Holt made it seem like I was still his wife.
I often wonder why Mr. Holt assumed I would remain with him even after the divorce. He had no idea that the werewolf counselors would insist on the divorce, yet he would persist in mistreating me.
"Fine," now that Atticus could see my growing agitation in his presence, leaving was the only choice left for him.
"Keep this; call me if you need anything," Atticus retrieved his phone and extended it toward me, but I didn't take it. Mara appeared apprehensive as she observed him offering me his phone.
I no longer wanted to depend on him; he had played a significant role in creating this whole mess. He couldn't suddenly become the hero after being a villain in my story for so long.
"Thanks for your concern, but my dad has a phone. I'll use his," I said, bringing up my father. Atticus slowly withdrew his outstretched hand as my dad handed his phone to me.
"She'll let you know if she needs anything," my dad assured, handing me his phone. Atticus glanced around uncomfortably, and his veins became more pronounced.
"Go back to your homes," he ordered, his tone filled with anger and irritation. Everyone departed except for Mara. She was now prepared to apologize to him for causing so much drama, but it didn't seem like Atticus would be ready to listen anytime soon. He hurried past her when she reached out to hold his hand and offered a weak smile.
"Let's go home," she whispered.
"Oh, fuck off!" Atticus grunted, shrugging his hand free and leaving for his car.
Mara attempted to chase after him for a few seconds, but it was a futile effort, and she was left standing outside our house. I had a suspicion that she might try to return, so I hurried to the door and locked it before she could make it back inside.
As I turned to head back to my room, I found my father standing right in front of me.
"You slut!" he screamed and snatched the phone out of my hand.
"You have no shame," he commented, his words dripping with disdain and his eyes filled with disgust.
"I'll be in my room," I replied in a subdued tone, not wanting to engage in any more of this chaos. Fortunately, he didn't try to stop me, as I had grown weary of it all.
Once I entered the room I used to share with my sister, an odd feeling washed over me.
‘Why did she have to leave like that?’ I sat down on the bed, speaking to Thea, grateful for her company.
‘Because you weren't around,’ Thea replied, ‘I'm not blaming you, but take a look around and tell me if you could survive in a place like this.’ Thea was right; from my father to the neighbors, no one here seemed sane.
‘I suppose she managed to do what I should have done as well—leave everything and everyone behind and run away,’ I said, my voice heavy with sorrow, exhaling a deep sigh.
‘Are you upset that she left you behind without trying to get in contact with you?’ Thea asked, displaying her straightforward nature. She had no reservations about asking whatever was on her mind.
‘No! I don't even know if she tried or not because Mr. Holt would have never let me see her. It's just... I feel like my sister, my baby sister, is out there somewhere with this stranger,’ I replied, finding it too difficult to voice what I was thinking. The thoughts were haunting and terrifying. My fears were taking shape, and now I imagined my sister living in those conditions somewhere.
‘Not a stranger. That's her mate she's living with,’ Thea murmured, attempting to offer me some reassurance that my younger sister was doing well.
‘She's just too young,’ I replied, still struggling to find comfort. I lay down for a moment, feeling the weight of worry, when my father abruptly entered the room.
"Knock! People knock!" I grumbled, sitting up and observing the irritation on his face. "What's got you looking like someone stole your kidney?" I inquired, seeking an explanation for his expression, and all he did was thrust the phone into my hands.
"It's that loverboy! He's asking for you," he answered with bitterness, positioning himself a bit away to eavesdrop on my conversation with whoever he referred to as my loverboy.
With a frown, I brought the phone to my ear and let out a sigh; it was Alpha Atticus.
"Why are you calling, Atticus?" I asked, glancing to the side, feeling somewhat awkward.
"I just wanted to check up on you," he replied, likely still on his way back to the mansion, as I could hear traffic noise in the background.
"I'm fine. You don't have to keep calling and disrupting my peace," I replied, not giving him a chance to say anything else, and hung up the call.
"You should be polite to him. You're fortunate that the Alpha is showing an interest in you, especially after the accusations that have been made against you," my father gently took the phone from my hands. "I was just pondering what it would be like to become his Luna," he said, his words tinged with a sigh, as if he was imagining it for me.
"You want to be his luna?" Thea asked, her tone dripping with sarcasm as she poked fun at my father.
"And why do you believe he would do that?" I took over quickly. I wasn't eager to find out, as unlike others, I had seen his true character and his actual intentions towards me.
He did appear to care about me until he chose not to, and that's when he could bring me back every time I tried to move on and let go of him.
"He's infatuated with you, or why else would he come with you here, knowing what's happened between you and his brother-in-law?" My father sounded eager now that he could discuss this matter with me. "Just consider it; if you plan the next steps wisely, you and I could rule," he looked at me with enthusiasm, genuinely hoping for my agreement.
