Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 66: Chap-66*Bullied In School.*
**Cynthia Dion:**
I heard Mr. Holt open the door and quickly survey the room before leaving again. That's when I realized he had a spare key to my room.
After that, I tried to go to sleep, but I was feeling extremely uneasy that night after learning the source of Atticus's long-standing animosity toward me. He believed I had targeted Mr. Holt because of his wealth and his potential to help my father and me. He might have thought I was a gold digger, which is why he started disliking me. Then he kidnapped me, thinking that Mr. Holt would never marry me due to the damage to my reputation. But despite his diabolical nature, Mr. Holt had still married me.
It troubled me that Mr. Holt was doing my family many favors while simultaneously mocking me because of our circumstances.
The thought of having to face everyone at school made me incredibly grumpy as I woke up that morning. It felt like I was preparing for a battle that day.
I didn't have a phone, so I had no idea if Mara had tried to reach out to me.
When I got ready for school and joined everyone for breakfast, Mr. Holt gave me a very creepy look.
"I really admire you when you are holding your books. It's as if you can conquer anything," he said, pulling my chair closer to him, seemingly oblivious to the somber expression on his wife's face.
Atticus was quietly eating his breakfast, appearing quite normal. I had tried to be honest with him the previous night, but I wasn't sure how much of it he had believed.
"Atticus, would you mind taking over her pick-up and drop-off duties?" Mr. Holt's words caught both Atticus and me off guard.
Was he giving us an opportunity to spend time together?
He then flashed me a broad smile and added, "Don't worry, there will be a trusted guard of mine with my lovely wife at all times." I had no idea who Mr. Holt was anymore. What was he up to? Why was he doing all these seemingly pointless things now that he already had me as his mate?
Maleeka and Mr. Holt exchanged a deep and troubled glance, likely pondering the same questions.
"She's not my responsibility, and I'm certainly not her chauffeur. You married her. Why don't you take care of her?" Atticus grumbled, taking a big bite of the waffle on his plate.
"I'm sure your sister could persuade you, right, Maleeka?" Mr. Holt once again dragged his unfortunate first wife into the situation. She placed her spoon in her bowl, sighed, and raised her eyes to look at her younger brother, who understood her unspoken desire.
Atticus raised his head and shot a glare at Mr. Holt for using Maleeka, but a gentle nudge from Maleeka made him close his eyes and give in.
"I can walk to school. I used to do it before, and I can do it now," I whispered, subtly indicating that I didn't mind taking long walks.
"You're not some homeless rogue anymore, Cynthia. You're my mate! A Royal Beta's mate," Mr. Holt deliberately used that title for himself while staring at Atticus, who seemed irritated enough to stop eating.
It was truly unfortunate that these two siblings were stuck with this psychopath, and now I was too.
After we finished breakfast, Atticus picked me up in silence. I sat in the passenger seat while he took the wheel.
The car ride was filled with silence; none of us spoke. Rosalie and Enzo were the bullies I dreaded encountering the most.
I remembered that Atticus and Enzo had been expelled due to my testimony, and now that they had been called back to school, I knew I was in big trouble.
Suddenly, in the midst of the silence, I heard Atticus start to cough. The car came to a halt on the side of the road so he could catch his breath.
"Damn it!" he wheezed, nearly wrenching the steering wheel. I watched him for a moment, frozen in place.
"Here!" I offered him my water bottle, but he promptly declined it, pushing my hand away.
"You can continue being stubborn later. Drink some water," I practically yelled, watching him in so much pain that it pained me as well.
I should've accepted his initial rejection, or else we would both be in pain indefinitely.
Eventually, he relented and took a sip from my bottle, visibly feeling better and breathing more steadily. I could have asked him what happened, but I chose to remain silent.
I did recall Mr. Holt mentioning his weakness, but he didn't refer to it as an illness, so perhaps the cough was just an isolated incident.
He continued the car ride as if nothing had happened, and before long, we arrived at the school. We both stepped out of the car when it pulled into the parking area and entered the school building.
As soon as we walked in, the room filled with whispers.
"Isn't she now the wife and second chance mate of his brother-in-law?" someone remarked.
"She is, but didn't she used to be his ex-mate? Remember how he rejected her?" another person whispered. Atticus clenched his fists as someone spoke, but he didn't intervene.
"Now they're here together," another person whispered. Clearly, they would go easy on Atticus, but I would likely face all the scrutiny.
I breathed a sigh of relief as we entered the hallway leading to our lockers because there weren't many other students in sight.
I needed to quickly arrange my things at my locker so I could change into my gym shorts and shirt and head to the training area. The wealthy students didn't bother with school uniforms. I wasn't sure what Atticus had planned for the day now that he was no longer in charge of us, and Enzo had already been expelled.
Before I could react, someone grabbed my shoulder, spun me around, and yelled, "Here, you slut!" She then punched me in the face with her fist, sending me sprawling onto the cold floor.
