Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 186: Chap-186*The Evil People Dinner*
Cynthia Dion:
"I'll be waiting," I flashed her a wide smile. "Let's see who ends up regretting staying here." With a wink, Maleeka stumbled to her feet, heading for her room, when suddenly she spread her arms and sat down as if feeling dizzy.
"What's going on with her? Is this some new game?" I didn't even bother asking her if she was okay, while Mara began offering her water and rubbing her back.
"That's the difference between you and her," Maleeka grunted, closing her eyes to steady herself.
Indeed, there was a significant distinction between us. Little did she know that Mara was not only rubbing her back.
Mara held Maleeka's hand and guided her back to her room while she called the doctor. The female doctor spent a few moments in the room, and when she emerged, she wore a broad smile on her face.
"She--," she began but stopped, looking at me. "Are you Cynthia Dion?" She inquired, and it struck me as odd that she seemed more focused on me than her patient.
"Yes, that's me," I confirmed.
"Oh, I shouldn't discuss her condition in front of you," she excused herself from me, walking away with Mara. They weren't too discreet because I overheard what had happened to Maleeka.
"She's pregnant!"
The doctor's unexpected revelation made me close my eyes and sigh. It dawned on me that Maleeka would seize this opportunity to make me suffer as much as possible.
I waited outside the room while Mara bid farewell to the doctor and then headed back in my direction.
"Huh! Prepare your bags. Maleeka can't have any stress," she informed me before vanishing into the room.
"I'll wait and see who ends up leaving," I muttered to myself as I strolled back to my room to rest. Let's find out who can kick me out of here now.
They had all gathered in the living room to celebrate the good news. I should have displayed more happiness, I know, but it was challenging when I sensed that they all harbored the thought, somewhere in their minds, that I might do something to harm the baby. Maleeka was probably well aware she'd be playing a game, but for the others, it would simply appear as if I were jealous.
"How about we all go out for dinner?" Mara clapped her hands excitedly, embracing Maleeka and casting a forlorn look in Mr. Holt's direction.
Now that I felt more secure, I noticed things I hadn't before. Mr. Holt didn't seem as delighted as Maleeka was. Evidently, this was the man who had resorted to violence to compel his wife to abort their baby, and then he had falsely accused a teenager of seducing him.
The way Atticus only embraced his sister and avoided even looking at Mr. Holt indicated that Atticus was tolerating him because of his sister.
"That sounds great," Maleeka replied, casting a glance at everyone before fixing her eyes on me. The smile on her face vanished, and she slowly lowered her gaze.
"So, all of us are going out then?" Mara, who had initially suggested going out, now appeared to be uncertain. Her question seemed to carry a hidden message. Her gaze shifted to my face, and after a careful examination, Maleeka nodded in understanding.
"Well, not everyone, actually. I mean, someone should stay at home," she murmured. Her furtive glances prompted Atticus to look at me and then back at his sister.
"We're going to a public restaurant. What's wrong with her joining us?" He appeared irritated that his sister didn't want to include me in her joy.
"It's okay; I'm quite tired already," I replied as I distanced myself from them. I had no interest in celebrating the news or anything else. I knew they harbored dislike for me, and they had lied about my name so many times that I couldn't feign being okay with joining a group of people who seemed to dislike me.
Furthermore, Maleeka's behavior following the news, her apparent fear that I might harm her baby, convinced me it was better to keep a safe distance from her. She seemed erratic, capable of getting hurt by accident and then accusing me. No thanks! I had no desire to be falsely accused of such a terrible thing again.
I returned to my room and ordered some food for myself. After a few minutes, Atticus followed. I suspected they had had an argument.
He went straight to the closet as I sat on my phone, watching random videos. He retrieved something and then approached me, causing me to sit up and take notice of the laptop bag in his hands.
"I know you and Maleeka don't get along, but I'm genuinely baffled by their decision to go out and leave you behind," he began, talking while avoiding direct eye contact. Since my father's death, he hadn't looked at me the same way. Not because he witnessed me kill someone, but because of the hurtful things I had said to both people and him that day.
"I thought maybe I'd get you something to keep you occupied until we figure out what you want to do with your studies and all," it was amusing how he had been encouraging me to pursue something in life. He wanted me to join his office after I completed my exams, although I hadn't made up my mind yet, given that there were some individuals I needed to deal with first.
"I did get you a laptop, though," he added with a little chuckle, placing it on the bed for me.
I stayed silent as he got up and headed into the bathroom to get ready for dinner. It was going to be quite challenging to be alone at night.
I had trouble falling asleep after the tumultuous events. It seemed impossible to go a single day without thinking about Flora. By the time he got ready, I had drifted off to sleep. They likely left together shortly after I dozed off.
