"Atticus!" His name slipped from my lips in a desperate plea, though my intention was to caution him to step back from me.

"Yes? Do you have something on your mind?" He used his deep voice to address me, making me aware of how close he had come. His voice was right by my ear. As he started to lift my shirt, I clenched my lower lip and shut my eyes. Before I finally decided to push him away, his cold finger gently touched the area around my injured skin. I shifted to the side, withdrew my hands, and pulled my top down before turning to face him.

"You don't want me to use this medicine on your injuries?" he inquired, a smirk on his lips as he took the medicine from me.

"You know you can simply shift and heal. That will be much easier for you. Why bother with applying this medicine? Your hands can't even reach your back," he said nonchalantly, then hopped onto the bed, sitting upright and fixing his gaze on me.

"I have wolfbane in my system," I fibbed, but that was my only defense at the moment against all these questions. He held a remedy designed to help werewolves with wolfbane in their systems recover swiftly.

"I can apply it myself. You don't have to worry about it," I asserted, hoping to get him to leave.

"Ah! I suppose you're eager to catch Mr. Holt's attention. Are you waiting for him to return and administer t--," he clenched his jaw but forced a smile, trying to appear unfazed.

"Why don't you focus on your mate instead? She seems quite busy bullying me, to the point where she lost a match for me today," I muttered, recalling the video he had shown me. He acted as though he hadn't thrown me into this difficult situation, but I remembered everything, including what Holt had done to me that day.

"Are you jealous?" Finally, he placed the medication down and lifted his gaze to meet mine. The darkness still shrouded his beautiful eyes.

"Atticus! Just leave," I shouted in desperation. My injuries were throbbing, and he was dragging things out.

I expected him to go when he clicked his tongue in disappointment and got up, but instead, he began walking back toward me. I took a step back, my back brushing against the door behind me.

"Why did you fall for Mr. Holt when you knew I was your mate and could have had much more with me?" He complained, his face devoid of any smirk. He seemed serious for once.

"Didn't you once claim you wouldn't have accepted me, no matter what?" I scoffed, a grin forming as I pointed out the contradiction between his words and actions. I didn't even want to wait for his response.

"What's the point of all these questions now? You've landed the best mate for yourself, and I'm stuck with your psycho brother-in-law, all thanks to you, naturally," I continued, maintaining eye contact with him. My words made him stretch his neck and blink his eyes with force.

"Did he hurt you?" he inquired, his jaw clenched tight. For a fleeting moment, I contemplated sharing the details of what Holt had done to me, but I held back, knowing it would only cause him pain.

"It is not your business," I muttered. He was the reason I had to marry that psychopath. Why would he show concerns now?

"Atticus! Your Royal Highness! Get out!" I emphasized his titles, which he often liked to flaunt. He raised an eyebrow and slid his hands into his pockets, changing his tone.

"Allow me to assist you with the medicines," he insisted, speaking in a gentler tone.

"I can manage on my own," I declined his offer.

"Cynthia! Let me help you. The pain must be coursing through every nerve," he spoke softly this time.

"You didn't seem too concerned when your mate punched me in the face, and you comforted her with a kiss while I lay on the ground," I managed a broken smile, my emotions almost getting the best of me as I recalled Rosalie's brutal punch.

"Her tears must be quite valuable. After all, she's a rich man's daughter," I forced a smile, allowing a warm tear to trace its path down my cheek.

She was behaving as if she had never stolen someone else's mate.

"We can argue about those things later. Let's get you cleaned up. Mr. Holt will be arriving late, and by then, your wounds might start getting infected," as he mentioned Mr. Holt, I realized how crucial it was to clean my wounds before his arrival. Mr. Holt might take advantage of this situation to harm me, and I wanted to avoid that at all costs. He had already threatened me with harm upon his return, so I needed to be in good shape to face him.

Although I had deceived Atticus about the wolfbane, he believed my wounds might get infected, and unfortunately, they probably would. I had softened a bit, but I planned to resist to some extent.

"I don't need your help or concern," I whispered awkwardly, feeling a mix of emotions. Why did a mate's care have to make you feel this way?

"You need care right now, Cynthia," he insisted as I shook my head vigorously.

"Not from you," I muttered, taking slow, deep breaths in an attempt to sound indifferent. But the pain I was experiencing wasn't letting up, and I instantly regretted rejecting his help.

"You need care," he repeated, and this time, I didn't respond in the same resistant manner. I truly did need care.

If I could sense him so strongly, why couldn't he feel the same way about me? Or was that the reason he was here?

"May I?" he inquired, noticing that I wasn't resisting as strongly to kick him out of the room anymore.

Instead of arguing further, I pushed my hair to one side and sat down on the bed, signaling that I was ready.

"Thank you," he murmured, taking hold of the medicine. I tried my best not to breathe loudly or show any reaction. He positioned himself behind me and began lifting my shirt with great care. Panic set in when, instead of raising it to the necessary level, he started removing it entirely.
