Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 185: Chap-185*Hardly Moving On.*
Cynthia Dion:
A few days have passed since I bid farewell to Flora at her proper funeral, but I haven't felt like myself since then. Fortunately, nobody tested my patience during my mourning period. Atticus also ensured that none of his pack members or Mara came too close to me.
He had taken time off from his office as he was gearing up for exams and had been urging me to give it a shot too. I'm not sure who told him that the best way to take your mind off something is to hit the books, but honestly, it doesn't quite work that way.
After several days, I finally ventured out of the bedroom to join everyone for breakfast. Atticus advised me to keep my emotions in check because he had some important announcements to make.
I stepped out in a blue dress, not quite in the mood to tolerate anyone's nonsense that day. All eyes were on me, but there was a collective hush in the room.
I was sure Maleeka had found yet another reason to harbor ill feelings toward me. My eccentric family was a bit too overwhelming for her.
As Atticus busied himself with serving me fresh juice and waffles, Mara let out a disapproving sound.
"So, no one's going to discuss what happened that day?" I could tell Mara wasn't pleased that no one was giving me a hard time for my actions.
"And I'm curious to hear your plan for tarnishing Cynthia's reputation," Atticus remarked with a neutral tone, concealing any anger he might have felt.
"I am just saying that a father’s craziness passes down to a daughter. He was crazy; she must be crazy too," she rolled her eyes and finished the sentence while Maleeka secretly stared at me to see which knife I was going to use on Mara.
"Your father wanted to fuck me," I said very calmly, adding syrup to my waffles. My statement got the best reaction. Mr. Holt and Maleeka, who probably didn’t know about this, shared a glance and then watched Mara’s face. She looked guilty as she stole eyes from them. "But that wouldn’t be the first time an old man has laid eyes on a young flesh like mine," I chewed the waffle and raised my brow at Mr. Holt, embarrassing him in front of his family and the maids who noticed my eyes on him.
"Well, anyway, let's find out how far the apple fell from the tree," I smirked as I recalled the video recording.
"This is an entirely inappropriate topic for breakfast," Maleeka scoffed and started eating her plain food with her impeccable manners. What a phony!
"Actually, I'm grateful that Mara brought it up. I've been wanting to discuss something concerning Mara with all of you," Atticus, now visibly irritated, set his glass down and cleared his throat before continuing, "I'll be rejecting you as my mate today, so pack your stuff and get the fuck out of here," as he finished, Mr. Holt closed his eyes with pressure while Maleeka and Mara were shocked.
I was pleased that he was taking action, but I didn't want him to do that. I wanted to be the one to make them pay, to embarrass them just like they've always done to me.
"No! You won't," I interrupted before Mara or Maleeka could object. "I wouldn't want any girl to endure what I've been through," I pouted, causing Atticus to tilt his head and gaze at me with affection in his eyes. The others seemed to think I was playing, but I could tell he had resolved to rid himself of Mara.
"I don't need anyone's assistance for Atticus to accept me," Mara didn't appreciate my attempt to act nice and make Atticus think I was the best person in the world.
"Okay, I'm sorry," I replied, nodding sadly, lowering my eyes, and pretending to be hurt.
"Who on earth do you think you are to speak to the Luna like this? She was just trying to be kind," Atticus slammed his fist on the table in frustration, and I maintained the same pout that had infuriated Mara.
"She's just pretending to be nice," Mara accused, pointing at me. I gazed at her, then at Atticus, utterly bewildered.
"Well, then, you should also pretend to be nice if you don't want me to kick you out of the pack," Atticus said, not mincing words as he pointed at her and let out an angry grunt.
"Please, Atticus! Don't reject her, please! For me?" I gently laid my hand on his arm, and his entire demeanor shifted. He seemed taken aback that I had touched him. He turned to face me, offering a weak smile.
"But I don't desire a second mate," he whispered so softly, as if he feared his words might harm me. Mara and Maleeka sneered at me, feigning sweetness after I had directed a taunt at Mara.
"Then let's not rush things. A sudden rejection can be incredibly painful for her. It could shatter her," I blinked gently, not raising my voice but relishing the anger they were showing.
"Alright, I won't expel her, at least not for now," Atticus opened his mouth and let out a sigh. "I need to head to college for an exam," he said as he rose from his seat.
He had been engaged in private study ever since his marriage. As he left for college, Mr. Holt also stood up to go to work.
Now that it was just Mara, Maleeka, and me, I straightened my posture and began humming while filling my plate.
"Only someone like you could remain so relaxed after what happened with your father," Maleeka muttered. They couldn't even eat in peace when I was smiling. That's how much they despised me.
"Well, I might host a dinner party after I deal with someone else," the smirk on my lips silenced her once more. She was genuinely afraid of me and would panic whenever I made statements like that.
"You made a grave error in allowing me to stay here," Mara said calmly. "You may have won over everyone else, Cynthia, but you have no idea who I am. I grew up in the same neighborhood as you. You made a significant mistake when you stopped Atticus from rejecting me," the composure in her voice might have unnerved me a few months ago, but now it didn't faze me at all. I was on the verge of bursting into laughter.
