**Cynthia Dion: **

"What on earth?" I rubbed my hand over my mark and grumbled under my breath.

I thought my cardigan might have stained it because it looked somewhat purplish, but it wouldn't come off. It was as if instead of getting better, It kept getting worse and paining a lot. Of course, it was infected since I hadn't transitioned, and now I was marked.

I left the bathroom and went to Flora's room, where she was waiting with some snacks and drinks.

"Flora, thank you so much for all this, but I don't think I can eat it all. I'm extremely exhausted. Can I take a short nap first?" I inquired, feeling a bit guilty because she seemed excited to spend time with me. However, I was worn out and quite drowsy.

"Of course, please rest," she looked so concerned for me.

"Where's my mattress?" I asked.

"You can sleep here in the bed. I'm doing my homework anyway, and later I'll pull out the mattress for myself," she replied, removing the tray from the bed and motioning for me to sit down.

She noticed my steady breathing and gently cupped my face to examine it.

"You don't look well, Cynthia. Do you want me to call Mr. Holt and ask him to come here for you?" she whispered, her eyes filled with concern. I knew she was only trying to help, but having Mr. Holt come here would mean more exhaustion for me.

"No, I don't want to trouble him for nothing. I'm just tired, so a little rest might help me recover," I excused, lying down in bed.

She pulled the blanket over me and kissed my forehead before switching off the lights. The moment I rested on her pillow, her scent comforted me, and I drifted off to sleep.

I didn't know how long I would have to endure this, but her presence in my life was the sole reason I continued to fight.

I was abruptly awoken as the light turned on while I was in the midst of a deep nap. Initially unable to open my eyes, I scowled. My eyelids felt as if they were being forcibly pried open by a sharp dagger due to the intense light.

But as soon as I managed to open them, I saw Mr. Holt standing beside my bed, holding a belt in his hand, his eyes brimming with anger.

I clutched the blanket tightly and pulled it up to my chest, scared of what he might do with the belt.

"Mr. Holt! Would you like some coffee or a cold drink?" Flora cheerfully asked him, rushing into the room. Flora saw me looking scared and then stared at Mr. Holt.

"Don't be scared of him. He's definitely not the monster in his own house. He's Mr. Holt, your savior!" She chuckled softly, likely assuming I had woken up and mistaken Mr. Holt for an intruder.

"I'd like something to eat. Today was quite a busy day, and I forgot to have a meal. Would you mind making me something?" He turned to her with a friendly smile, trying to deceive her. He also made it look like he was removing the belt just to take a break.

"I've prepared some sandwiches," Flora innocently giggled.

"I don't eat sandwiches. Could you prepare something else for me?" He asked her, clearly attempting to keep my sister occupied and away from the room.

"Of course, I can do that," she responded eagerly.

"Meanwhile, I'll chat with my wife. I have to show her some things I've purchased," he said, displaying the belt and laughing as if it were a hilarious joke. My unsuspecting sister laughed along and nodded in agreement.

She hurriedly exited the room and closed the door behind her. I wished I could warn her not to leave us alone, but I was afraid he might harm her as well. So, it was safer for her to stay far away from this monster.

It was probably for the best that he kept his true identity hidden from her. At least he was trying to be kind to her and fulfill her wishes. He was definitely going out of his way to make a favorable impression on her.

Mr. Holt didn't bother to hide his anger when we were alone. How would I ever find peace after enduring so much torment?

"Why the heck did you leave without my permission?" He clenched his teeth, tightening his hold on the belt.

I had to come up with a convincing excuse, one that would also protect my sister. "I was worried that everyone would wonder why I wasn't healing," I lied, tears welling up in my eyes.

"What about that phone call? Huh?" He tilted his head, implying that my answer was incorrect.

"You called and accused me of some vile stuff, and then you left my house," he muttered quietly, scratching his neck and cracking his knuckles. All signs indicated that he was losing control.

"Because I didn't send those messages to y---ou," I stammered, trembling with fear.

"Hm! Then how am I to blame? I received those messages from your phone, you little troublemaker," he leaned in and pinched my cheek, causing me to squirm and pull my head away from him.

It appeared that one wrong answer could cost me my life.

"Well, now that this is settled, let's go home," he gave me his infamous psychotic look and grabbed my arm, pulling me out of bed.

What if they all spoke up at the mansion, and Atticus, out of anger, told him about our make-out session? He and his sister must be resenting me, so there's a possibility.

"Ah!" I let out a small whimper as I nearly stumbled but managed to regain my footing. He was very forceful and rough in his treatment of me.

The fear of my sister seeing me in this condition had prevented me from crying, even though I truly wanted to.

He let go of my arm as he opened the door and stepped outside, grinning at Flora, who had heard us leaving and had come out of the kitchen. I really hoped she would say something to convince us to stay here tonight.
