Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 230: Chap-230*A Victim Himself*
Cynthia’s POV:
As he finished telling us why he did all that, our faces changed colors. My eyes were teary, and the counsellors looked guilty, too.
Maleeka had been breaking down after her dirty criminal history was displayed to everyone.
I didn’t even know what to say anymore. The story of Eva and the horrible life she had because of the mean and selfish people around her was so bad.
The fact that my mother didn’t even help her out and let the poor victim take a fall broke my heart.
I know she was thinking she was doing it for me and Flora, but to push someone else’s daughter into such a shitty situation just for the sake of your daughters is not an excuse.
Not to mention, I wonder if what Flora and I went through our entire lives was our mother’s karma, and maybe Eva’s broken heart cries are shadowing our happiness.
"Zeon!" Since Atticus couldn’t even say a word, I whispered in tears, "I understand your pain and Eva’s suffering, but hurting others wouldn’t bring her back. You can let her go, and the council can take care of her," I was sobbing silently, as I didn’t want to recall how my mother brought that poor girl pain.
"They didn’t do anything back then; they will probably let her go again," Zeon shook his head while still holding Maleeka hostage.
"You were never under any hypnosis?" Even after knowing he lied, Maleeka questioned him, just in case.
I was shocked, but it all makes sense now. She had done so much for him that she didn’t want to lose him now, even when she was suspecting him of cheating and even hurting her.
"I will personally announce her punishment," Atticus sniffled away his tears and uttered it in a broken voice. He wasn’t even looking at his sister.
But the instant he promised Zeon justice, Maleeka raised her head to her brother, and the look on her face changed.
"You will punish me for that she-wolf who isn’t even here anymore?" the hiss she let out surprised us.
"Huh? So what if I did all that? I deserved his love and attention because I was better than her. How dare she--," Maleeka started yelling, upsetting her with her lack of empathy for Eva.
"Fucking shut up. You killed an innocent soul in the worst way possible. Do you still not feel bad for that girl?" Atticus yelled at his sister, making her grunt and still not get it.
"Why? Why do you call her innocent? She stole the love of my life. She deserved what she got. If she had survived that day, I’d have---," she had to shut up when Zeon pressed the knife harder and her skin pricked, blood running down her neck to her chest.
"Wait!" Atticus begged Zeon, who was silently shedding tears behind her.
"Babe! Do you not see how much I love you? Could she ever love you like I do? Remember how she was ready to move on from you so easily? But look at me, I forgive everything you do. I’m still ready to accept you---," she shocked me when she began to beg him to accept her back.
"Ready to accept me?" Zeon sounded so disgusted at the thought of it, "I would much rather want to end up dead than to spend one more day with you," his words and revulsion made it very clear to Maleeka that there is nothing she can do to ever make him accept her.
"Please? We can start together. If you want, I can apologize to Eva," she was faking guilt now that she understood Zeon was all about Eva.
"Remember how much you endured for your sister?" Zeon was done talking to her. He was now looking my way and speaking softly.
"I would burn the whole world for Eva. It’s just that I cannot stop seeing that incident. Whenever I close my eyes to sleep, I am back in that library, and I relive---," Zeon steadily freed Maleeka while he grasped his hair in his hand and let out a scream, "Ahhhh!"
My heart broke.
I just kept watching him suffer, and then Maleeka rushed at him, trying to get the knife off of his hands.
"Stop it. We can go back to living happily," she muttered as she fought to get the knife. Atticus got in between them after he gently pushed me behind to let me know I shouldn’t come forward.
He was able to wrap his arms around his sister and pull her away from Zeon.
"We should call the guards," the counsellors, who were equally responsible for Zeon’s condition, yelled in a guilty tone.
"No! You cannot arrest him. In fact, arrest me with him," Maleeka smiled weakly, still wanting to be closer to him.
Zeon paused as he stared at her, and then he shook his head, laughing loudly.
"You seem more hurt than anyone else here. I guess you are not like your mother after all. But --," Zeon spoke to me, and a tear rolled down his eye. "I had to do it. Or else she will keep screaming when they hurt her."
He paused only a little when zoning out. I believe none of us figured out what he was dealing with deep down.
He was deeply disturbed, and, as he claimed, his own wolf had lost a lot and stopped caring.
Everybody did him and Eva wrong. He then looked at Maleeka and formed a broken smirk on his lips.
"I think I know what could be the worst punishment for you," he uttered while looking through her eyes.
And then, in one fell swoop, he stabbed himself in the heart with the silver knife.
"Zeon!" Maleeka let out a blood-curdling cry while his body dropped to the ground.
I covered my eyes and started sobbing. Atticus was still holding Maleeka, not letting her near Zeon’s body.
"Oh, heavens!" the counsellors screamed, running out of the living room.
"Let me go near him," Maleeka kept begging her brother, wanting to touch Zeon one last time.
"You don’t deserve to be near him," Atticus muttered, but I don’t think Maleeka could even hear him.
She was crying hysterically and slapping herself. She proved Zeon right.
This was the worst punishment for her.
