"Here!" I opened my eyes as Jack arrived, bringing a glass of juice for me. I wanted to hold the glass myself, but Jack insisted on helping me, so I allowed it. Of course, I enjoyed seeing Atticus in discomfort. He had done a lot for me, so that was the only thing I could give him in return.

"Thank you so much, Jack, but I'll look after her here," Atticus spoke up, his heart darkening with jealousy.

"Your Highness, it's okay. I don't want people to accuse her again," Jack's way of speaking caught Atticus's attention, and as he squinted at him, Jack continued to explain, "Your brother-in-law used to visit here to meet her father, but obviously he was too wealthy to be accused of anything. Poor Cynthia received all the blame, even when no one had concrete evidence against her." Jack didn't turn towards Atticus because he was ensuring he didn't spill the drink on me, but his words touched me deeply.

Did he genuinely believe I was innocent? Had he changed this much?

"Okay! Noted!" Atticus clenched his jaw while Jack avoided looking at him. "No one will accuse her; you can leave for now," Atticus stated, his tone carrying an authoritative edge.

He seemed incredibly uncomfortable with Jack sitting so close to me and assisting me with the juice.

"Thank you," I smiled at Jack, and he rose to depart. I didn't want him to get into trouble on my behalf, but it seemed that Jack was determined to assist me, as he displayed no fear of Atticus.

"I can only do this much to convey how sorry I am for how I used to behave around you," Jack mumbled softly as he rose to his feet.

"I'll return with some soup for you," he bowed, even though I wasn't a Luna, and hurried out of the house.

"He's just trying to make you believe he's changed," Atticus scoffed and settled onto the couch across the table.

"What's your issue with what he's trying to do?" I raised my head and locked eyes with him.

"I don't have an issue; I'm just saying that he is..." He paused when he realized he was saying too much. "Now that you know your sister isn't even here, can we leave?" He changed the subject but managed to make me frown.

"Leave for what?" I asked, squinting to hear him clearly.

"Your father despises you; he'll never be able to take care of you," Atticus declared forcefully, rising from his seat and sitting beside me. "That man will ruin your life," he continued.

"You have to come with me. It's not safe for you here, Cynthia," The nerve of him to assume I'd ever feel completely safe around him, considering how he had behaved in the past, made me wonder if he genuinely believed I'd be naive enough to trust my life to him.

"Huh, look who's talking," he heard me and grunted.

"Your father will harm you," he repeated, trying to compose himself.

"What he does is none of your concern. I have Jack. He can take care of me," I responded, shaking my head in disbelief.

"Why would he take care of you? I'm sorry, but I don't see any connection between you two," Atticus grumbled, demanding my eye contact.

"Relationships can begin in a minute," I said, although I didn't truly mean it. I wasn't ready to be in a relationship with anyone, but it struck a chord with Atticus because he viewed me as a desperate girl eager to find a new target.

He grabbed my arm and tugged me closer to him, causing my eyes to widen in shock.

"What did you say? You're going to start a relationship with him?" He breathed angrily, oblivious to the pain his grip on my arm was causing me.

"Atticus, let go," I murmured, staring into his eyes to convey that I wasn't afraid of him.

"You want me to let go so you can start a relationship with him?" He drew me even nearer, his eyes filled with anguish.

"I am free to do as I please," I said, observing his eyes growing moist.

"You are not; you can't be with anyone." Atticus was impossible to read because he would reject me one moment and then be afraid of someone else being interested in me the next.

"Atticus, you don't own me. I will be with whomever I choose." I scratched his fingers and removed his hand from around my arm to free myself.

"Isn't that what you've been doing all along? You've finally decided to admit it," his voice softened, filled with sadness. "But that doesn't mean I'll allow it any longer. You're coming back with me to our mansion; there's nothing left for you here," he raised his voice once more as he stood up.

"You've done your part; why can't you just leave me alone?" I shouted, raising my head to see him clenching his jaw.

"DO YOU NOT GET IT?" He hunched over and pounded the table in front of me out of rage, yelling, "I FUCKING LOVE YOU." His confession left me stunned.

My heart skipped a beat because I couldn't determine if the tears streaming down his eyes were part of a new game he was playing with me or if he genuinely believed I had been unfaithful to him.

Our eyes broke apart when a voice from the doorway alerted us to someone's presence.

"Atticus!" She was looking at us in astonishment, probably not expecting to hear that considering she had been so elated after being with him.

However, we were in for major trouble now that she had witnessed the Alpha confessing his feelings for me. I rolled my eyes wearily because I didn't want to deal with her drama. But before she could stir up more trouble, as was expected of her, another problem emerged.

Then, I heard another scream from behind her.

"Oh my goodness! The rumors are true--this woman is back and has apparently set her sights on the Alpha this time," a neighbor shouted at the top of her lungs. I knew I'd be facing even more hostility now.
