Cynthia Dion:

If he hadn't held up their plan by blocking the door, they would have succeeded in doing everything they had intended to do to me that night.

"No! You must stay here. You're Luna's father; I won't allow you to go like this," Atticus shook his head and prevented Dad from leaving, and Dad was surprised by the Alpha's kindness.

"I don't want to stay here and be a burden to the daughter I've always hurt," my father's eyes filled with more tears as he regretted his past treatment of me.

At this point, I was starting to think that my father was ready to admit he was wrong. Perhaps, when he's feeling better, I can ask him about my cellphone and whether Mr. Holt has ever been to the house and used it, or if someone else did.

"Cynthia! Why don't you go back to your room and take a rest while I assist your father to the guestroom and talk to him about the incident?" Atticus turned to me and asked politely. I understood that Atticus didn't want to discuss it with Dad in front of me.

I gave him a nod and quietly returned to my room. I knew Maleeka would be worried, like a bird in a cage, waiting for me, and I was right. She burst into the room just as I had entered to have a chat.

"Your father needs to leave," she raised her voice, standing behind me and gritting her teeth loud enough.

"Go and talk to your brother; it was his decision," I didn’t even turn around to face her.

"Your father used to let a married man enter his home and have an affair with his young daughter. How are you okay with letting him stay here?" She pissed me off with her hypocrisy. I wheeled around and watched her face in disbelief for a moment.

"And the married man gets to live happily ever in the mansion while everyone else faces the consequences of his actions. Bravo! It's no wonder he treats you poorly because that's what you've become," I responded in a similar tone, pointing my finger at her. She gasped and crossed a line.

She rushed toward me, raising her hand to slap me. Gone are the days when they could mistreat me, and I would just cry.

I intercepted her hand before it could touch my face. The surprise on her face showed that she hadn't expected that.

"Dare to touch me again!" I pulled her closer, applying pressure to her skin. "I'll cut your arm off and put it where your beloved husband won't like it. Did you hear me?" When I stared her in the eyes, a whimper escaped her lips.

"Did you hear me or not?" I said, intensifying the eye contact.

"I did," she nodded, whimpering, and obediently lowered her eyes.

"Now, get out," I pushed her back, and she fell to the floor, shocked by my newfound strength.

She remained there in shock until Mara rushed inside and witnessed the whole scene.

"Don't," Maleeka saw Mara attempting to argue with me, so she stopped her. She was too scared to argue with me when I was furious like a raging bull.

The fact that Mara was looking at Maleeka as if she cared for her was amusing. If she genuinely cared about Maleeka, she wouldn't be getting involved with her mate.

"Get out, both of you," I yelled, and the two hurriedly left the room like frightened individuals.

Well, they probably wouldn't appreciate the new me; I understood.

I had been lying in bed while Atticus was with my dad. Although I was worried about my dad, there was a part of me that didn't want to have him stay. I kept asking myself why I wouldn't want to help my father and let him suffer, but I couldn't come up with a reason. It just felt like something was bothering me, and I couldn't quite grasp it.

Maybe it was a feeling that my dad might be involved in the text messages sent to Mr. Holt, or perhaps it was because Flora left because of him. Whatever it was, I just wasn't comfortable with the idea of having my dad here.

I heard the door opening and immediately closed my eyes, pretending to be asleep.

"His injuries aren't very deep. His wolf should be able to heal them," Atticus was talking until he probably noticed that I had already fallen asleep. I heard his footsteps coming closer and pausing in front of me for a moment.

"You must be tired from all the negativity around you," he whispered, and then I felt his warm lips gently press against my forehead. My body tingled with a sense of pleasure and comfort, but I continued to feign sleep.

He then lay down on the couch, and eventually, we both drifted off to sleep. That night was quite eventful. I discovered that Mara and Mr. Holt were secretly seeing each other, and my father had shown up.

The next morning, when I woke up, Atticus was already dressed in a black shirt and black pants. I stepped out of the bathroom after taking a shower and putting on a gray dress, and Atticus was still in the room.

"I checked on your father. He's still asleep," he informed me while engrossed in his phone.

“Thank you for taking care of him last night,” I uttered.

“It is okay. It is my job, I am his son-in-law after all,” he commented, trying to be funny but his eyes kept landing on my face and then on my lips.

"Are you ready?" he asked, and I furrowed my brow.

"For what?" I inquired with a shrug.

"Enzo and Rosalie are coming. They want to talk to you," Atticus explained, then stashed his phone in his pocket and muttered as he stood up. It always surprises me how tall he is. But aside from his good looks, I wondered why Enzo had come here.
