Cynthia Dion:

Ever since I learned of their intentions towards me, I've been enduring excruciating suffering in this chamber, my limbs bound by relentless silver chains. The cruelty of their decision to punish me, when it was impossible for me to become pregnant on my own, weighed heavily on me. What about the man who was responsible?

Doctor Vivienne had cautioned us that I would require time to heal, or I might lose the ability to ever conceive, so I hadn't been able to fully recover. She was such a kind-hearted person that my heart ached for her. It was inconceivable that she would take her own life after everything went awry. What if the entire royal family had aided Mr. Holt in executing this plan?

What if Maleeka and Atticus were also involved in this? The thought gnawed at me.

Doctor Gary burst into the room, interrupting the million thoughts that were drowning me. "It's time to get out of bed and appear before the werewolf council," he declared.

I watched him sift through my papers and implored, "Please, let me speak to the Alpha King just once," with no intention of having my blood pressure or temperature checked.

I needed to confront Atticus because until he acknowledged that the child was his and now deceased, I wouldn't let him off the hook. I wanted to question him directly, that how could he not hold Mr. Holt accountable for the death of our unborn child?"

He chuckled and retorted, angrily chewing his bubble gum, "Do you really think you can plead before him and that he'll persuade the jury to set a woman like you free once more?" How on earth could he be a doctor? Or, as I had overheard someone describe him, a scientist.

I inquired, "Does he know about my miscarriage?" while I watched him fumble for the keys to release me from the bed's restraints.

"He's well aware, and quite indifferent," he finally stopped moving and wagged his finger in the air, a wicked grin on his lips. "In fact, you'll be astonished to learn what punishment he had in store for you."

I was mortified by the way he looked at me, but I couldn't resist the urge to question him.

"What did he propose?" I asked softly, my anxiety mounting about what I might hear.

My lips quivered, and tears streamed down my face as soon as his words left his lips and echoed in my ears, "That all chances of you ever conceiving are stolen from you."

I was stunned by such a suggestion. "He--" How could he inflict this kind of harm upon me? He was the one who had caused my pregnancy and was now turning around to punish me.

He left me bewildered with his words, "Well, whatever he did, it was deemed appropriate. You were fortunate that my proposal found favor with the werewolf council."

What had he suggested now?

He announced, "It's time to leave," and then yanked me out of the bed, gripping the other end of the chain. He removed the chain from the bed, wearing thick black gloves. My body hadn't fully recovered, and judging by the way they were all treating me, I didn't think it ever would.

As I walked down the corridor, all eyes were fixed on me, making me feel as though I were being dragged along like a prisoner heading towards the waiting vehicle. I was dressed in a white gown that barely reached my thighs, and I felt a mix of embarrassment and anger, both directed at myself and at the Moon Goddess for sending me mates like these, especially given what he had told me about Atticus.

During the uncomfortable car ride to hear the verdict from the jury, Doctor Gary continued humming eerie tunes, acting like a complete lunatic. Once the vehicle came to a stop, a Gamma was assigned to help me out of the car and guide me to the Pack jury.

The room was filled with older werewolf Beta and Gamma members, all eyeing me as if I were some animal in a zoo.

"Is this the girl who's been messing around?" the elderly man, a former Royal Beta of the pack, asked, his face contorted in disgust. I could guarantee that if left alone with him, he wouldn't maintain the same level of revulsion.

With a smile, Gary confirmed, "Yes, she is."

I glanced around, searching for any sign of the Royal family's arrival, but it seemed they hadn't joined the proceedings. They had thrown me into this situation and then distanced themselves from it.

"May I sa---," I tried to speak, but I couldn't even form a complete word.

"You will not open your mouth here, you filthy creature!" another elderly man yelled at the top of his lungs, his face twisted in horror.

But I should have the chance to present my case. I wasn't even allowed to speak. How is this justice? I retorted, refusing to back down and let them tarnish my character without a fight.

"Did you or did you not become pregnant while outside of your marriage?" the elderly man inquired as he built his case.

"I did, but the marriage was never intended to be permanent. He married me solely to provide refuge. I promised him I wouldn't---," I tried to explain everything rapidly when they once again cut me off.

"Do you have any evidence to back up your claims?" I saw a look of disbelief on his face as he posed the question. How could anyone provide evidence for something that occurred in their bedroom behind closed and locked doors?

"No!" I exclaimed, noticing several of them closing the files, which left me feeling uneasy. It appeared that they had already reached a decision, and it didn't bode well for me.

"Then the verdict has been reached," the words he uttered made my heart race in my chest. When I glanced around, I saw the elderly men shaking their heads disapprovingly at me. Even my own family hadn't shown up, and I could understand why my father hadn't attended, which surprised me.

My father wouldn't be able to attend, as it was perfectly acceptable for him to have those elderly men around just so they could ogle at his daughter and please their eyes as much as possible.

"The doctor will have ownership of you and will be permitted to conduct experiments on you as he sees fit," he declared, causing my body to freeze.
