Cynthia Dion:

The most horrifying scene flashed before my eyes. Maleeka lay on the ground, blood streaming down her legs.

"Ahhhh!" She screamed in agony as Mr. Holt and Atticus helped her stand.

"Oh, God!" I managed to say no more.

"Call for an ambulance," Atticus shouted into the phone, desperately seeking help.

"My child!" Mr. Holt held Maleeka in his arms as they both sobbed.

I couldn't think straight, so I had no clue what had occurred.

"What happened? What on earth happened?" Mr. Holt inquired. She cried out in agony as Mr. Holt pressed her face against his chest and hugged her tightly.

"I don't know, there was oil on the ground," My body tensed as she answered in between hiccups.

I took a step back, noticing Atticus staring at me. His jaw dropped, and his eyes were wider than usual.

"Someone plotted this," she screamed, causing him to gaze at my face in even greater horror.

It all appeared extremely suspicious, and unfortunately, I seemed like someone who could be very guilty.

I was treated like a cursed witch as they rushed her to the hospital and left me behind. Everyone avoided talking to me.

I paced back and forth in my room, repeating the same words over and over again, "I didn't do anything."

"I didn't do anything."

Atticus probably thought I was responsible because I was found holding that bottle.

"Oh God! Why did I even talk to him?" I remembered what I had told him earlier about his sister foreseeing a major disaster, and now that it's happened, all suspicion is falling on me.

I shook my head in disbelief at my own mistakes. "He's not even returning my calls."

Why did I let my guard down when I knew someone was plotting against me?

But who could it be? I lay on my bed, my face buried in my hands because I was too scared to contemplate who it might be.

"Could a parent be so heartless as to harm their own child?" I pondered, "My father has always been a source of trouble for us, so it's possible."

I already knew the answer to that question. The knowledge that Mr. Holt had harmed Maleeka before she lost her baby shattered my world.

This person was even more dangerous than I had initially believed.

In an attempt to stay optimistic, I told myself, "Maybe the baby is still okay." I shouldn't dwell on the worst-case scenario, even if the odds were slim.

After a bit more waiting, Atticus finally called. At first, I couldn't bring myself to answer the phone due to the anxiety about potentially hearing some terrible news. But eventually, I managed to calm down and picked up the call.

"Atticus! How are Maleeka and the baby?" I bit my lower lip and held the phone close to my ear, feeling scared and uneasy.

Everything felt shattered. I had never heard Atticus so distraught before as he began to speak and then broke into sobs, "The baby didn't make it."

He was about to say more, "My sister," but abruptly ended the call. The moment I considered the worst possible outcome, my heart seemed to stop.

Was there any hope left at all? How could I comfort him now? I cried and pleaded, my tears falling into my hands as I felt their pain.

Everything had turned gloomy, and I had spent the hours alone, worrying so much that I had forgotten to eat anything.

Why didn't he update me on Maleeka's condition? I was so concerned about her.

They arrived back at the mansion after midnight. Maleeka had already physically recovered because she was quite resilient, but I was more concerned about her emotional well-being.

Knowing that Maleeka had made it through gave me some relief. I was eager to find her and offer my support. Now that she was back home, I was determined to let her know I was there for her.

"How is sh--," I started to ask but then paused. Maleeka was being held and taken to her room as I hurriedly left my room, witnessing her uncontrollable tears.

"Stay here!" Mr. Holt insisted that I avoid approaching her.

"Why? I'm worried about her," I attempted to reach out to her once more, but Maleeka winced and ignored my touch this time.

"AREN’T YOU GLAD MY BABY IS DEAD? WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT AT THIS POINT?" She was unfair in her fury towards me; how was I to blame?

But her reaction was so aggressive that I almost gasped loudly.

"You killed my baby, what els--do you want now?" As she accused me and explained her reasons, I covered my mouth to stifle a gasp. Atticus didn't even raise his eyes as he held her for support.

"What did I do? Because I didn't," I quickly defended myself, adding, "I'm innocent," as I looked at each of their faces one by one.

"Then why did you ask the maid for an oil bottle, requesting the same oil that was already on the floor?" When Maleeka explained what had led her to believe I was responsible, I couldn't help but glance at Atticus. He had seen me holding the bottle, so why hadn't he accused me yet?

"The maid? Who?" I asked, my body trembling.

"I didn't ask anyone for an oil bottle. I picked up the bottle after finding it on the floor," I explained to them, but Maleeka suddenly exclaimed.

"Why did you threaten my child's life this morning?" Now she was lying, and we both knew I hadn't said anything like that.

"Maleeka! You're lying now," I grumbled.

"You said it right to my face," she continued to lie, making everyone uncomfortable in my presence.

"The doctor said not to upset her," Mr. Holt said, taking my hand and leading me away so that Atticus could take her back to her room.

"I never did anything like that," I wasn't sure if she genuinely believed I had harmed her child or if she was just using this situation to turn Mr. Holt and her brother against me.

"Mr. Holt!" As soon as we entered the room, I pleaded with him, "I did not harm her baby!"
