Werewolf
Rejected Their Broken Luna Chapter 130: Chap-130*Snap Back.*
Cynthia Dion:
"I didn't expect you to be so jumpy," he remarked, his gaze fixed on my face in the mirror's reflection.
"Yeah, I've been like that lately. Will Flora be there when we arrive today?" I asked, steering the conversation away from my previous slip-up and focusing on something else.
"Let's go. They're waiting for us at the breakfast table," he instructed, without addressing my question.
He turned and left the room, and I didn't say anything in response.
I was cautious not to say or do anything that might upset him, as I felt incapable of challenging or arguing with him.
My heart sank before I even made eye contact with anyone when we arrived in the garden, where they were waiting for us.
I felt vulnerable among them as the memories from yesterday rushed through my mind. I sat down next to Mr. Holt and concentrated on my hands.
"Here!" Atticus laughed rather mockingly as Mr. Holt set a glass of juice in front of me and said, "Drink this."
His message suddenly appearing on the screen of my phone startled me greatly.
Atticus: I believe it's unfair that your devoted husband is unaware of the mark on your neck.
Expecting the message to disappear, I found myself reading it repeatedly.
Me: Why are you tormenting me like this? You've had your fun; aren't you satisfied?
I typed discreetly to avoid drawing Mr. Holt's attention.
"I was attempting to communicate something to all of you," Atticus said. I opened my eyes, a bit frightened by the sneer on his lips. He ignored my warning and proceeded with his plan.
"What's going on?" All eyes were on Atticus as he smirked triumphantly while Mr. Holt questioned him.
He paused before continuing, "Something very...," unsure how to finish. "It's going to be surprising," he added in general, with a gulp.
"What is it, Atticus?" Maleeka asked him, casting a sidelong glance at me that made my stomach churn.
She knew about the mark.
He grinned rather ominously. "So, you know how I've been searching for a mate," he said, rolling his eyes in my direction and sneering, "I mean, I did find one once, but let's not dwell on that."
"I found a mate," he suddenly announced, making me take a deep breath to calm myself.
Although I was relieved that he wasn't discussing the mark, the news that he was going to introduce Mara to them did sting a bit.
"Really?" Maleeka inquired, her excitement evident even though she seemed unaware of Mara.
He paused to heighten my anxiety. "My mate is—Mara!" After revealing the name, his sister leaned back slightly.
"Mara! As in Cynthia's friend Mara?" Mr. Holt was the first to react.
"She will be known as my mate now," he declared, correcting him and ensuring that my name wasn't linked with his mate.
"Wow! That's really great news," Mr. Holt seemed surprised that Atticus had moved on, especially with my friend.
He was probably pondering, just like his sister, who initially didn't seem too thrilled but later put on a smile for her brother.
She cleared her throat, picked up a fork, and began eating, saying, "Congratulations!"
Mr. Holt gently stroked his fingers over the back of my hand and remarked, "Congratulate him. He's found his mate, and you're now part of the family."
"Congratulations!" I forced myself to follow my controlling husband's instructions and congratulated my former mate on finding someone else.
Atticus didn't even glance at me; he was engrossed in conversation with his sister.
"We should celebrate this. Why don't you have dinner with your family and invite her?" Mr. Holt was the only one showing significant enthusiasm, and I could understand why: he had the chance to reaffirm that he was the only person left in my life and that I had nowhere else to turn.
"That sounds like a good idea," Atticus quickly agreed, but then he glanced at his sister. He eased up a bit and asked, trying to get his sister's approval, "If Maleeka is comfortable with it."
"Sure, we can do that," she mumbled in response to his question.
"That's great. Maleeka and Cynthia, get ready for her arrival," Mr. Holt, who seemed to think it was a brilliant idea despite neither of us being particularly pleased about it, sent the two of us to prepare for her visit.
Atticus nodded enthusiastically and got up to inform Mara. It was one of the worst things I had ever experienced. I sat there, pretending that everything was normal, while my partner, who had previously attacked my character and humiliated me in front of her, was now eager to mark my closest friend.
I had to face her tonight, and I had no idea how I was going to cope with that.
Mr. Holt stood up, taking the last bite of his sandwich, and signaled for me to join him. "If you're done, we should leave," he said.
As soon as I stood up, I heard Maleeka's comment, which surprised me and prompted a response from me.
She compelled me to halt in my tracks and turned to face her with a sneer. "I hope you never find any happiness in your life," she said.
"What did you say?" I asked in a slightly broken whisper, expressing my shock. I was bewildered by how someone could be so hateful toward another person. After all I had been through with mates, she still believed I deserved more suffering?
“You threatened to hurt me and my baby and then you did it,” she hissed.
"No! you lied—," before I could respond, she jumped up and splashed the juice in my face. "Are you out of your mind? What the hell do you think you're doing?" I shouted. As I lunged at her and grabbed her arms to shake her, I felt my body quaking with anger.
Her face changed colors, and her eyes widened in shock and fear.
"Not so tough now?" I mocked her. When I felt someone pulling me away from her, I muttered and tightened my grip on her arm.
She appeared taken aback when she heard me shouting back at her.
