Sarahs POV

After hugging Ray from behind, he grabbed my hands and held them there. He then put the pups back in their cribs and walked toward me, giving me a kiss.

" We have a lot to do today," he states.

This is true. Today, I'm meeting with the freed slaves. I'm going to talk to them and see if we can somehow get them back to their people or find them a suitable living arrangement. The children in the orphanage are the priority. I believe some of them have parents here.

A young woman was looking for her child the other day, and someone said that she might be in the orphanage. I hope that we find these children's parents. Many people have been released from the dungeon who were there for very stupid and ridiculous crimes, such as not working fast enough, their mates refusing to reject their true mates and other things. Ray ensured they were all released, promising to find their mates or families.

" I know we do, babe," I responded.

" I will leave you to get ready. When you're ready, come find me in the courtyard," he said.

I then went and got ready. I put on a simple T-shirt and a pair of jeans. That would be more comfortable than trying to wear a dress and look royal. Instead, I wanted to appear like a normal person. Like them, I was once a slave, then was rescued by Ray. They needed to be able to trust me.

The children in the orphanage are scared, and some of their parents were killed in battle, and they may have no one to go to. Those children are going to need to be taken care of. Then, some mothers have lost children due to the evil leader that they had. I will ensure they have someone to look after them, and if those mothers are childless and willing, maybe they will adopt some of them.

I then fed my own children and headed to the courtyard. Ray was already waiting. He had tables set up and many ladies at the tables. People were waiting to see if they could find anyone who was in their family. We have been dealing with it a lot since we came here. But until the war begins, I will try to reunite families and clans.

" Thank you all for coming. My first priority is to take care of the children in the orphanage," I said.

" To all those missing children, please come forward and wait here," I ordered.

I had ordered the ladies tending the children in the orphanage to bring them to the courtyard. There were at least forty or more children, ages ranging from birth to sixteen. How people can take children from their parents is beyond me. I understand that every clan has an orphanage because parents do get killed in battle, but some clans are nicer to the orphans than others.

I just hope we can get everyone reunited with their children and parents. I want to empty the orphanage. There are children in the orphanage that are being used as pawns in a game that the old king would play. All the children are scared. They look like someone is going to hurt them. The poor things.

" If anyone is missing a child, and you see them, please go retrieve your children," I stated.

I sat at a table as parents rushed up to their children and retrieved them. I was shocked at how many of the children had parents. My blood started to boil because I was getting angry. Of course, the wind began to blow. I quickly calmed myself down. The children were already scared enough as the number of children dwindled. By the time each family was reunited, a handful of children were left.

The families waited for me to say something to them.

" From the deepest part of my heart, I am so sorry that the previous king tormented you by taking your children," I stated.

" I am truly sorry for your pain," I cried.

" I am also sorry it took us this long to reunite you. As you know, a war is coming, and I had my pups as well," I stated.

I was sorry it had taken us this long to reunite them, and I was angry at Ray for not getting someone over here to do this. Each family walked by me and said thank you with tears in their eyes. I was so happy to see their tears of happiness, so I started crying with them—not because I was sad but because I was happy.

It started raining, but it was a gentle rain, not a violent storm. Ray rushed up to me.

" Babe, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" he asked in a very concerned tone.

" I'm crying happy tears," I stated.

" Why," he asked.

" Because I have reunited so many families today," I stated.

He hugged me, kissed me, and went back to doing whatever he was doing. I wasn't in danger or anything, so he wasn't needed. I then turned my attention to the children who were left. I spoke to each caregiver and discovered they were captives from other clans. That broke my heart. I knew how that felt.

There were a couple of young ladies in their teens who someone must have abused. When I find the person responsible, there will be hell to pay. You don't mistreat people. It does not shock me, but it still angers me. I sat down with the teens and learned they were from the White River Clan. That's perfect. Caleb was heading there the next few days to get his people ready, and he could see they were reunited.

I will have Ray talk to him. But as far as they knew, their parents were alive and looking for them. The old king would lock them in the dungeon when their parents came and tell them they had been sold. I hope that they are still alive. Then, there were three actual orphans. They were still babies and needed an actual family. A couple wanted them, and I was happy to let them adopt them. But with a strict warning, I would often visit and check on them.

I knew that we were going to be traveling back and forth between our kingdom and here. Brittany would stay here as the princess, and her mate would be the prince. They were going to travel to the kingdom to collect their belongings. Ray has not found a suitable alpha for this clan, so until he can find an alpha, Brittany will be in charge.

She was a princess, after all. Ray was happy that she had agreed to stay there. It was almost lunchtime, and I was desperately missing my pups. I wanted to hug and hold them for a while before I went and talked to the people in the tents who were being taken care of. I knew some belonged elsewhere, and I wanted to get them to their clans and families.
