King Rays POV

After informing Sarah that we would return to the White River clan, seeing her reaction was not a good sign. I knew I was in for a long night. I did everything I could to try and prevent the nightmare that I was sure would happen. After bathing and taking her to bed, I held her while she fell asleep.

It was not long before she started to toss and turn. She began to scream out in her sleep. I tried to run her back and calm her down, but it was not working. I tried holding her, and she was still fighting. I'm sure that I will have bruises in the morning. She was fighting for her life. She was in no real danger, even if it was just in her head.

I knew it seemed real to her. There was no way around that. I had Doctor Bernard stay just in case we needed to sedate her. I hated the thought of doing that, but I would do anything if it were to help her. She jumped out of bed, ran straight into the closet, and shut the door. I chased her and tried to catch her before she locked the door. I spent hours trying to coax her out of the closet.

When she finally came out, she was fighting like it was the end of her life. I knew that I would have a black eye from her striking me. Some injuries healed quickly, and some did not. I had the doctor sedate her. She was out in a matter of seconds. She woke several times after that, and I got her back to sleep. It was a long night, for sure. I felt terrible for her.

But she must face her fears of returning to the White River clan. This time will be way different. Nobody would dare to hurt her or say a crossword to her. She is queen and has the power to inflict punishment. I knew that some of the men that had hurt her were still there. She never told me who had hurt her and what their names were. I don't think she even knew their names.

Going back there this time had two objectives. One making sure everyone knew that Caleb was the new alpha. Also, I wanted to find anyone else that may have hurt her. I was still holding a grudge. I wanted everyone to be punished for hurting her. They are still injecting people with silver. Why else would a lot of the members of the clan have scars? We heal almost as quickly as we are injured. So, the fact that I saw briefly that some still had scars was troublesome.

After finally getting her to relax in the shower and also apologizing to her over and over again for injecting her with a sedative, she did not seem upset about it. She had a look of understanding on her face. I got her into new pajamas and tucked her back into bed. I lay there with her until she finally went back to sleep. I knew that we would both be tired when we woke up again. We were leaving in two days to go to the White River Clan. I needed her to get some rest.

In the morning, I will ask her how she feels about a couple of sleeping pills to help her sleep for the next few days. I will not force anything on her that she does not want to take. But I know that this is going to be difficult for her. I will suggest it to her. She can not have another night like this. I was worried about her strength. She was not weak by any means. But I did not want her to worry herself into a frenzy and get weak. With no sleep, she would become ill again and get weak.

She trusted me to make decisions for her, especially when she was in that frame of mind. There was no way that I would violate that trust. When I told her that I had the doctor inject her with a sedative, she smiled at me, and she had a look of understanding on her face. So I knew she was not mad after getting Sarah back in bed and comfortable. I pulled her to me and stroked her hair. I had noticed that it helped calm her, and she fell asleep.

It felt like we had not been asleep for long when the alarm on my phone went off. I quickly jumped out of bed and turned it off. I did not want it to wake her. I was pleased to see that it had not. I quietly walked to the nursery and tended the pups. The nannies had them change, and they were lying on a blanket on the floor, practicing rolling over and getting ready to be mobile. They were right on schedule. They were growing like weeds and getting stronger every day.

Their mother was growing more beautiful every day, and it was getting harder and harder to keep my hands off her. My father was right that when you love your mate, it changes you for the better. I used to laugh at my parents when I saw how they acted around each other. I have never been happier in my life. After playing with the pups for a while, I checked on Sarah. She was still asleep, which was a good thing. She needed all the rest she could get.

She was sleeping peacefully. I then left the room and went to the kitchen. Breakfast had already been made and had been sat out. I fixed myself a plate and ate it. I then fixed Sarah a plate. I want her to eat and keep herself healthy. I was beginning to second-guess the idea of going back to the White River clan. I knew I needed to go, but what about her? Did I need to make her go? I had no idea how long I would be there. I did not want to leave her or the pups unprotected.

So much to think about. I knew that Caleb would make things as comfortable and safe for her as possible. That I had no doubt. There was also the need to choose a new second in command. I needed to make sure everything was in order in the kingdom. Sarah was automatically second in command if anything happened to me. But she needed someone who could help her make decisions if needed. I did not think anything would happen to me, but you never know what the future holds.

Again, there is so much to think about and so much to do. I did not want her to be unprepared. She would need to tour the clans, check in with them, and see if they needed anything. She is the queen, and if something should happen to me, she must be prepared to step up. Without a mate, she would not be the first queen to run a kingdom. But again, I doubt anything will happen to me. But she needed to be prepared. I do not know whether power decided to grant Sarah as my mate, but I'm grateful they did.

She needed a lot of training and care. When she was born, she was destined to be a queen, but she was stolen and unable to be trained in her duties. Brittany had all the training, but her mate was not a prince or king.
