The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 103: The Unpalatable Fish Soup
Just then, Victoria and her group arrived.
Hearing this, Jack spoke up, "Fish soup today? Awesome, I love fish soup. Bring me a bowl."
Ella eagerly served him a bowl and handed it to him with a sweet smile, "Give it a try. Hope you like it."
She then winked at Dennis and asked softly, "Dennis, want some?"
Dennis politely declined. Meanwhile, Jasmine, praising the soup, served herself a full bowl and took a big sip.
Instantly, her face scrunched up, and she looked like she was about to gag.
The elderly lady next to her gave her a puzzled look as Jasmine struggled to swallow.
Ella, still hopeful, asked, "How is it? Does my fish soup taste good?"
Jasmine looked at her, at a loss for words to describe the awful taste.
Jack's response was to slam his spoon down. He had only taken a sniff before his eyebrows shot up in disgust.
"How did you make this fish soup? It smells so fishy, it's undrinkable! What a waste of a good fish!"
Others, skeptical, insisted on trying it themselves.
Not a single person could finish their bowl, and some even asked if Ella had forgotten to add salt, wondering why the soup was both fishy and sweet.
Ella took a sip herself and immediately spat it out, tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm sorry, I don't know why it turned out so bad. I really tried my best."
Seeing her distress, everyone decided not to blame her and simply avoided the fish soup.
On the other hand, the fish Mira made was devoured completely.
Everyone agreed that while it wasn't as fancy as a high-end restaurant, it was much better than the food from the nursing home chef, who focused more on nutrition than taste.
Victoria, munching on some delicious fried fish, gave Mira a thumbs up with a big smile.
Mira responded, saying she was just happy everyone enjoyed the food, making her time in the kitchen worthwhile.
She also mentioned that she had help from several of the boys.
After dinner, Ethan went back to play chess with Jack. Victoria, curious about the game, went to watch.
Dennis wanted to join but was called away by the student council for some urgent matters.
Victoria quietly observed the game, occasionally pouring coffee.
The game lasted two hours, and near the end, Ethan hesitated and made a wrong move. Jack quickly seized the opportunity and won the game.
Jack, beaming, said, "That was tough! I had to give it my all against you today. You're quite the opponent!"
Ethan nodded without much expression. They helped clean up the chess pieces and tidied Jack's bed before leaving.
As they closed the door, Victoria softly asked, "Did you make that mistake on purpose?" She had noticed the move was uncharacteristic of Ethan's skill level.
While it's easy to make mistakes after thinking too long, Ethan had seemed calm and composed throughout.
Ethan glanced at her, a slight smile on his lips. "What do you think?" He had indeed let Jack win on purpose, knowing their goal was to cheer him up.
Though he rarely tried to make people happy, it wasn't because he didn't know how, just that he usually didn't see the need.
Victoria turned her head away, refusing to guess. They walked in silence for a while before Ethan spoke again, "You have a knack for chess. Want to learn?"
Victoria suddenly turned to look at him, a mischievous smile on her face. "So, I was right."
Ethan just smiled without saying anything.
Soon, it was time to announce the results of the event. The student council tallied the votes from the seniors.
The dance club girls were confident, despite Ella's fish soup failure, as they had charmed many seniors to secure votes, ending up with ten votes.
The snooker club boys, who had mostly helped with moving tables and chairs, got four votes.
Surprisingly, Mira alone received five votes! Her cute round face and delicious, homestyle fish had left a lasting impression on many seniors.
Although she didn't actively ask the elderly to vote for her, her quick and efficient help in taking care of them earned her their silent support and votes.
At this point, the snooker club was just one vote behind the dance club.
Delbert arrived and cast his vote for Victoria, and also helped Jack, who couldn't move easily, cast his vote for Ethan, as a thank you for their efforts with Jack.
This brought the snooker club to a total of eleven votes, just edging out the dance club.
Elise won the event, which meant her disciplinary action could be lifted.
Walter, however, did not have enough votes to clear his record.
When the results were announced, Elise jumped up in joy, beaming with gratitude. The snooker club celebrated enthusiastically.
The dance club members were dejected, exhausted from the day's efforts, and still losing.
Walter, trying to hide his disappointment, forced a smile and said, "Thank you all for your hard work today. I'll figure out my disciplinary issue on my own, no need to trouble everyone."
Lily, with a cold expression, said, "Today was just our bad luck," and led the dance club members out, not wanting to see the snooker club's happy faces.
Ella gave Victoria a dark look before leaving with Jasmine.
The next day, Leon's film crew really did come to Nexus College.
Both Leon and the director were there to personally select the lead actor and a key supporting actress. This news excited the students immensely.
However, freshmen and sophomores still had to attend their regular classes, while only the junior performing arts students could audition.
They rented the college's auditorium, and after classes, students flocked there to watch the excitement.
