The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 62: Francis
The two teams squared off on the field, with Brightlight University led by a guy sporting a red headband and hair that looked like it had been electrocuted.
"Dennis, watch yourself out there!" the guy yelled from a distance.
Everyone turned to look, and those who played in last year's league shouted, "Francis!"
Francis Vasquez was known for his aggressive style. Playing snooker with him was like dodging bullets; the last ball would often be smashed so hard it could hit someone in the face. Competing against him required not only focusing on the shots but also being ready to duck.
The Brightlight University team had picked up on this style. Last year, when they faced off in the finals, several Nexus College players ended up injured. They barely won, but it was a painful memory.
So, the two teams stared each other down, as if they were ready to brawl.
"Francis, you lost to us last year; what are you so smug about?"
Francis stood there, shaking one leg, "Weren't you the one bawling last year? Your nose wouldn't stop bleeding; it was hilarious."
His teammates laughed along with him.
Technically, Francis's style was against the rules. Their match results should've been voided, but the Vasquez family had a lot of pull in the sports world. Despite their antics, they never got penalized.
Dennis pointed his cue at Francis, speaking with resolve, "Don't worry, I won't hold back."
Victoria watched the cocky Francis, lost in thought. He was just as arrogant in school.
So different from the guy she met before.
In her past life, Victoria met Francis while playing a corpse in a film crew.
She was playing a dead body washed up on the beach. After work, she found a rock to sit on, planning to dry her clothes before heading out.
While drying her clothes, she saw someone floating in the sea.
She struggled to drag the person ashore and performed CPR, making the guy puke up a ton of water. He didn't wake up, so she ran to a nearby rescue station to get a lifeguard to help take him to the hospital.
When she got back, the guy was gone. She figured he woke up and left on his own.
Victoria later found out the guy was Francis at Ella's new movie launch.
Francis, as an investor, had put a hundred million dollars into making Ella the lead actress and showed up at the launch to support her.
He was in a suit, looking all serious, and his gaze at Ella was super gentle.
Ella's fame and acting skills at the time weren't enough to carry a lead role, but Francis insisted on her being the star.
People online speculated that the Vasquez heir was head over heels for Campus Queen Ella, willing to use Mystic River Films as a toy just to make her smile.
Ella clarified they were just friends and had known each other since college.
But Francis kept investing in all of Ella's films, earning him the title of Ella's most loyal supporter among netizens.
Francis never denied it.
It seemed they met at this league in the past life. Would Francis still fall for Ella, who was in logistics, this time?
"Victoria, let's go!" Mira tugged at Victoria. Everyone had left, but she was still standing there, staring at the other side, lost in thought.
Victoria shook her head, glanced at Francis one more time, and followed everyone to the locker room to get ready.
Francis found it odd. The girl on the other side, he didn't recognize her. Why did she look at him like she knew him?
"Francis, what are you thinking about?"
"Nothing, let's crush them in the match later!" Francis replied.
Ella had prepped brand new sports outfits, along with matching shoes and wristbands, all bought out of her own pocket to make a good impression.
When Ella handed the gear to Victoria, she specifically reminded her, "Victoria, make sure to wear this uniform. We need to look unified as a school; everyone else is wearing it."
Victoria took the outfit, but once in the locker room, she tossed the clothes and matching items aside.
Mira asked curiously, "Victoria, aren't you going to wear it? People might talk if you're different from everyone else."
Victoria shook her head, "You shouldn't wear it either. Who knows what kind of scheme she has."
Mira, who was about to change, shivered and threw the clothes far away.
During military training, Ella had given out sachets that attracted bugs. Who knew what weird stuff might be in these clothes.
Mira added, "But, if only the two of us don't change..."
Victoria grinned and pulled out two identical uniforms from her large backpack, even the wristband patterns were the same.
"I came prepared."
"Victoria, you're the best; you even got one for me! Thank you!"
Mira quickly changed into the new outfit.
The clothes and shoes Victoria prepared looked the same as what Ella had prepared but were made of higher quality and more comfortable materials.
After changing, they locked Ella's items in the locker and walked out of the changing room.
Ella saw them in the new outfits and specifically checked their wrists. Seeing them wearing the wristbands she had prepared, she smiled with satisfaction.
The match began.
The league had thirty-two schools participating, divided into groups A and B, with a round-robin points system. The top two teams from each group would advance.
The teams would face off to determine the champion, runner-up, and third place.
The total schedule was about two days.
The strongest in the girls' group were the twin girls from Brightlight University, Willow Russell and Sophie Russell, both with stylish short hair and tall, athletic builds.
With a hint of worry, Mira introduced them to Victoria, explaining she had encountered them in previous matches and couldn't beat them.
Victoria patted her shoulder reassuringly, "Don't worry. Leave it to me."
Seeing Victoria's calm expression, Mira felt more at ease. After all, they were in different groups, A and B, and wouldn't meet until the finals. They would deal with it then.
Victoria took the field, and her custom-made DiamondCueWorks cue caused quite a stir.
"Who's that beauty? A newcomer, and she's already using a custom DiamondCueWorks cue?"
"Must be nice to have money! Francis, don't you have one too?"
Francis, sitting in the audience with his legs crossed, looked at Victoria. Indeed, Victoria was not ordinary. To use a cue made by Jay, it wasn't just about money; it required connections.
He thought, 'With the last name Hamilton, could she be related to the Hamilton family?'
Sophie, sitting beside him, stomped her foot unhappily seeing him glance at Victoria a few times, "What's the point of having a good cue and being pretty? On the field, it's all about skill. Watch me beat her."
"Exactly, Sophie. You're gorgeous too, and your skills are top-notch. No one would dare to challenge you for Francis."
Everyone at Brightlight University knew Sophie liked Francis.
And she was very possessive. Even though Francis rejected her, she wouldn't let other girls get close to him.
Francis smiled indifferently. He wasn't interested in women and didn't mind Sophie keeping other girls away from him. Right now, he only liked playing snooker and fighting.
Sophie's skills were good, and he respected that.
This Victoria, judging by her opening shot, seemed worthy of that top-tier cue. Francis looked at her with some interest.
Ella watched Victoria warming up her wrist, secretly pleased. 'The more you move, the more you'll understand what pain is when you grip the cue and hit the ball later.'
She had hidden silver needles in Victoria's wristbands, as thin as a hair, embedded in the fabric and hard to detect. Only continuous wrist movement would drive them into the flesh. The more focused Victoria was on playing, the deeper the needles would pierce.
'Who knows, it might even mess up Victoria's hand for good. Let's see how she throws her weight around in the snooker club after that.'
The more she thought about it, the happier she became. Ella even started humming while handing out towels to the members.
