The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 159: The Island is About to Collapse

Jasmine snapped, "Terrible? Yes, I do feel terrible right now. Are you all idiots? Where's my breakfast?"

The servant, sweating profusely with his sleeves rolled up and still dripping water, replied awkwardly, "Ms. Murphy, we found out the basement was flooding early this morning."

"Everyone's been trying to save the wine and food stored down there. We don't know when this storm will stop, and we don't have much food left. Everyone's really worried."

The soaked raw meat and vegetables were inedible, so they had to bring up whatever was still relatively clean.

They also needed to find the source of the leak and try to stop it, or the water would keep coming in.

Jasmine was stunned. Why was the basement leaking? Shouldn't leaks start from the top?

The servant asked, "Ms. Murphy, what should we do?"

Jasmine stared at him wide-eyed. How was she supposed to know what to do? She was only eighteen and still a student! She was studying acting, not survival on a deserted island!

Jasmine held up a hand to stop the servant from coming closer, to avoid getting dirty water on herself. "Wait, I'll go get Tony."

Tony had been up late preparing his study abroad materials, and when Jasmine knocked on his door, he had just woken up.

Hearing about the basement flooding, he immediately snapped to attention, not even bothering to change out of his pajamas.

He opened the door and strode out. "Take me to see it."

The two of them followed the servant to the flooded basement, standing on the stairs without going down, as the water was already up to the servant's calves.

The servants were still trying to save items from the higher shelves, while everything floating on the water was already ruined.

The servant asked, "Mr. and Ms. Murphy, what should we do? This is the first time we've encountered something like this. I've worked on other islands for three years and never seen a basement flood like this."

Jasmine stood there with her mouth open, unable to say a word.

Tony furrowed his brow, took a deep breath, and said, "I'm not sure either. I'll check the basement's design plans later. For now, just bring up whatever you can save. Thanks for your hard work."

Jasmine's stomach was growling with hunger. She complained, "Since it's already like this, one less person helping won't make much difference. Have the chef go make my breakfast. I can't just starve and wait."

The servant looked at Tony, who nodded. "She's right. Let the chef go cook. Everyone can't work on an empty stomach."

Finally, Jasmine got a simple breakfast. Due to the shortage of ingredients and lack of staff, her toast was spread with peanut butter instead of her preferred caviar.

Jasmine pouted, poking at the toast and reluctantly taking a few bites.

Tony, meanwhile, was on the phone and searching for information on his laptop.

He first called Jessica to ask about the island and the building's basic information, as well as where the design plans were kept.

Unfortunately, Jessica was filming, and her assistant answered the call, not knowing the details.

Tony then searched online for information about the island.

Suddenly, he came across a blog post mentioning that some islands in The Emerald Atoll Archipelago were artificially filled.

Developers had filled in unstable islands, built villas, and sold them to unsuspecting foreigners. These artificially filled islands were much cheaper than natural ones.

Tony remembered his mom mentioning that this island was a great deal. Could it be that the island they were on was one of those filled ones?

He wasn't a geography expert, but he knew that artificial fill materials couldn't compare to natural rock layers that had withstood the test of the sea.

The villa's foundation was probably already full of holes, which was why the basement was flooding so badly!

After finishing her meal, Jasmine lay on the couch playing with her phone.

Bored, she asked, "Tony, did you find out the cause? When can we get normal food again? This milk isn't even the kind I like."

Tony gritted his teeth. "Stop playing for a second and check when this storm will end."

Jasmine casually searched the weather. "The internet says this storm will last at least a week."

Tony's breath caught. It had only been one night, and the basement was already like that. If it rained for another week, wouldn't the house collapse?

He walked over to Jasmine, speaking seriously. "Jasmine, I have a suspicion I need to share with you, but don't react too loudly."

Jasmine nodded, and Tony told her: the island was artificially filled, and with a week-long storm, the island might collapse, and their villa could fall apart.

"What?" Jasmine shrieked. "Are you sure?"

Tony shook his head. "I'm not sure. Mom isn't answering her phone, and the geologist I contacted hasn't replied to my email."

"But we need to be careful. Don't sleep too deeply tonight, in case we need to escape quickly."

Meanwhile, Victoria and the others were planning to go to the gaming room.

With nowhere to go, there weren't many entertainment options, so they might as well play some games and treat it as training for the upcoming esports tournament.

Victoria led the way, noticing Ethan following. She asked curiously, "Ethan, I thought you weren't joining?"

Ethan paused. "I never said I wasn't joining."

Okay, he hadn't said it outright yesterday, but his sour expression had made everyone think he didn't want to participate.
