The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 188: Genius Chess Girl
"Chess?" Ella's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
She suddenly remembered she was part of the Chess Club too. Why hadn't they looped her in?
She quickly opened the group chat on her phone, which she had muted. The last time she played, she lost badly to Victoria, and the seniors kept praising Victoria while ignoring her, so she muted the chat.
Because of that, she missed the announcement about the Chess Club hosting a seminar at their school. She could have been involved in organizing it and had more chances to interact with Dennis, but she missed the opportunity.
Ella stomped her foot in frustration, determined not to miss out this time.
She unmuted the chat and posted: [Sorry, my phone was broken, and I missed the messages. Let me help with this event. I'll work hard to get more students involved!]
After sending the message, she turned and knocked on Dennis's door.
"Dennis, were you and Victoria just talking about the Chess Club's seminar at our school? Why didn't you include me? As a member of the Chess Club, I'd love to help out."
Ella spoke earnestly, with a hint of hurt in her voice, her eyes reddening as if she might cry if Dennis refused her.
Dennis sighed and said, "The club sent out a notice before the semester started, and you didn't respond. I thought you were busy and didn't want to participate."
Ella rushed to his desk, pouting and blinking her eyes. "I just explained, I didn't see the message. Of course, I want to help, especially with you!"
She edged closer to Dennis, her foot lightly tapping his pant leg under the table.
Dennis cleared his throat and turned away to avoid her touch. "If that's the case, go talk to Victoria and help her distribute the flyers."
Ella's face briefly showed a frown but quickly softened. She spoke in a playful tone, "Why do I have to go to her? Dennis, you know Victoria has some misunderstandings about me. I'm afraid she won't cooperate. I'd rather help you directly."
Seeing Dennis's expression turn serious, she quickly changed her tone, "Okay, Dennis. I'll go find her right now. No matter how difficult it is, I'll complete the task you gave me."
Dennis nodded slightly, "You should go. I have other things to take care of."
Watching Ella's reluctant departure, he sighed. Ella always found ways to cling to him, which was becoming annoying.
Many girls liked him, but most were reserved and polite. If he showed any sign of distancing himself, they wouldn't persist.
But Ella seemed oblivious to his attitude, always finding opportunities to get close. Even when he showed his disdain, she would shamelessly act cute.
Although he didn't like it, he had to admit that her persistence often got results. Sometimes, he even admired her bravery.
Ella quickly spotted Victoria, who was about to enter a classroom.
Lila sprinted ahead and blocked Victoria's path with her arms outstretched.
Victoria, holding a stack of flyers, looked at her coldly, "Move out of my way."
Lila flinched but stood her ground, stubbornly saying, "Wait, Ella has something to tell you."
Ella approached with a smile, "Victoria, how come you didn't include me in the Chess Club's activities? Were you trying to get some alone time with Dennis? But he just agreed to work with me on the seminar."
"Oh." Victoria's face remained expressionless as she glanced at Ella. Did Ella really think Victoria was trying to compete with her for Dennis?
Ella had expected Victoria to get angry, thinking she had exposed her intentions by mentioning Dennis.
But Victoria's calm demeanor showed no reaction.
Ella bit her lip and then covered her mouth with a smile, "Are those the flyers for the seminar? They look heavy. Dennis said I could help distribute them." She signaled Lila to grab them.
To her surprise, Victoria didn't resist. She just frowned slightly when Lila touched her clothes, then quickly handed over the flyers.
Victoria said indifferently, "If you like distributing flyers, take them all. I'm going to practice."
She turned and left, heading to the snooker club where Mira was waiting for her.
As for the seminar, she felt responsible for it, but if someone else was eager to take over, she didn't mind.
Dennis had already messaged her explaining the situation, so she wasn't worried about Ella causing trouble. Ella would do her best to impress Dennis, ensuring the task was done well.
Lila, holding the heavy stack of flyers, struggled to keep her balance. She forced a smile at Ella, "Ella, can you help me with these?"
Ella didn't even look at her, walking straight into the classroom. "Keep up, don't delay my work."
She stood at the podium, sweetly introducing the Chess Club, while Lila and Natalia handed out the flyers.
When someone asked why the student council wasn't handling this, Ella proudly showed a photo of herself with the Chess Club president.
"Because I'm a member of the Chess Club, and this is my responsibility."
Originally, Victoria was in the middle of the photo, but Ella had edited her out, making it look like she was very close with the president.
Her classmates admired her talents, thinking she must be a chess prodigy to have such a good relationship with the president.
