The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 179: I'm Willing
"Watch out," Victoria said, grabbing Vera's arm.
From Vera's reaction, it was clear she knew Ella.
Vera glanced at Victoria, pulling her arm away, and stammered, "What's your deal with her?"
"We're enemies, not friends. Can we talk now?" Victoria smiled calmly, then turned to Colin. "I'd like to speak with her alone, if that's okay?"
Colin, seeing Vera's frightened expression, stood up nervously. He looked at Vera, silently asking for her approval.
When she nodded, he agreed, "There's a bench outside in the yard. You can go there; no one's around right now."
The two of them sat on the bench in the yard.
The afternoon sun was warm, filtering through the trees and casting a gentle light on them.
Vera slowly began to recount her high school experiences.
Initially, her high school life was peaceful. Despite her poor family background, she was a good student and a straightforward person, blending into the background at school.
Ella, on the other hand, was the popular girl with average grades but a knack for fashion, always surrounded by admirers.
Their paths should never have crossed.
But one day, Vera accidentally spilled her drink on Ella's brand-new designer dress, and her nightmare began.
That day, Ella had been proudly showing off her expensive dress to her friends, a dress she had begged her parents to buy.
Her friends were fawning over her, saying only such a designer dress could match her elegance. Some even touched the fabric, commenting on how smooth it felt.
They were blocking the hallway, and Vera, trying to get back to her classroom, politely asked them to move.
When no one responded, she tried to squeeze past them.
Suddenly, one of the girls waved her hand, causing Vera's drink to spill onto Ella.
In that instant, Ella's face turned terrifyingly cold. Vera quickly offered to clean the dress, promising it would be spotless.
But Ella sneered, "Hand my dress to you? I'm afraid you'll make it even dirtier. Just pay me back. This dress costs five thousand dollars."
Vera's daily meal allowance was only five dollars; there was no way she could afford to pay for the dress.
From then on, Ella and her clique frequently bullied Vera, tearing up her homework, getting her punished by teachers, cornering her in the bathroom to slap her, forcing her to drink dirty water, and ripping her clothes.
When Vera reported it to the teachers, no one stood up for her.
Boys who liked Ella claimed Vera was jealous and lying.
Though Ella wasn't punished, she was furious that Vera dared to fight back. She cornered Vera on the rooftop and beat her.
When Vera tried to escape, she was pushed down the stairs.
Ella's friends testified that Vera fell on her own, and they hadn't touched her.
Vera's grandmother, who had a meager pension and worked part-time to make ends meet, couldn't afford proper treatment for Vera's leg, which only received basic care, leaving her with a limp.
Her grandmother, exhausted from caring for Vera in the hospital, fell ill herself.
As soon as Vera's leg healed, she went out to find work to take care of her grandmother, even if it meant not continuing her education.
She came to Sunhaven because there were more opportunities in the city and to get away from Ella.
Victoria listened to her story in silence for a long time before saying, "Did you know Ella is also in Sunhaven now?"
Vera shook her head. "No, did she apply to a university in Sunhaven?"
Victoria replied, "She's attending Nexus College."
Vera's eyes widened in shock, finding it hard to believe. How could Ella's grades possibly get her into Nexus College?
Even Vera's own grades back in school didn't guarantee admission to Nexus College. Ella's scores were only half of hers in every exam!
Victoria explained, "Her biological parents are loaded in Silvervale. They donated millions to Nexus College to get her in."
Vera was speechless. The world was so unfair. She had been driven out of school by Ella's cruelty, while Ella thrived, with a privileged background and attending one of the best colleges.
Vera gripped the wooden bench tightly, her nails digging in until they bled.
In her previous life, she had only recognized Ella from a supermarket ad poster after Ella became a famous star. Outraged by Ella's deceitful public persona, Vera had exposed her online.
Now, with Victoria's arrival, she learned much earlier that Ella was doing well. Vera gritted her teeth and asked, "What can I do?"
Victoria sighed, "I originally wanted you to help expose Ella's bullying history and reveal her true nature. But..."
Vera still seemed afraid of Ella. Would disrupting her peaceful life be too much?
But Vera grabbed Victoria's hand, her eyes resolute. "I'm willing!"
Why should the villain go unpunished and maintain a facade of kindness?
If Ella wanted to be a star, Vera would expose her, shattering her pure image.
Even if she couldn't stop Ella from becoming a celebrity, she would at least tarnish her reputation.
