The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 29: Breaking Records
"It's been less than four hours. Did they not bring the treasure directly here? This doesn't count."
Four girls emerged from the woods, with Victoria leading the way. She pointed to the finish line ahead and flashed a confident smile. "The finish line is right there!"
The three girls behind her were exhausted and drenched in sweat, but when they saw the finish line, their enthusiasm reignited.
"Charge!" The girls shouted in unison and sprinted to the instructors.
The instructor in charge of timing pressed the stopwatch, "Three hours, fifty-nine minutes, and six seconds! A new record. Did you confirm you got the treasure?"
The four of them were too tired to answer and collapsed on the ground, not caring about the dirt.
"Let them catch their breath and have some water first."
Victoria weakly nodded, licked her dry lips, took the bottle of water handed by the instructor. She drank half of it in one gulp.
Then she opened her backpack and pulled out the number 3 flag, "Here's the treasure."
Everyone's eyes focused on her hand. The instructor took the flag and checked it. "That's right. You really broke the record! This year's freshmen are amazing. I'm so proud of you!"
Daisy murmured, "So the treasure is just a little flag."
Mira swallowed the water in her mouth and quickly responded, "It's all thanks to Victoria. She led the team so well!"
Clio chimed in, "Yes! Victoria is incredible. She memorized the map with just one look and went to get the treasure by herself without wasting any time."
The instructors all looked at Victoria with admiration. She was indeed outstanding, not only physically strong but also smart.
Clio then asked, "So does that mean the $100,000 is ours?"
The instructor added, "Not just that, you broke the record, so there's an additional $30,000 reward! You also get first pick of the single rooms."
Clio jumped up in joy.
Daisy covered her mouth in surprise, "One hundred and thirty thousand dollars!"
Mira grabbed Victoria's sleeve, "Victoria, it's $130,000! That's as much as my dad's annual salary!"
Victoria nodded, a faint smile on her face.
They rested at the finish line, and soon, other teams started arriving.
But the most dazzling team was still Victoria's. The head instructor announced on stage, "Victoria's team not only took first place but also broke the record held by Ethan's team from two years ago. Let's welcome these four brave and smart girls!"
Led by Victoria, Mira, Clio, and Daisy walked onto the stage one by one, standing tall to receive the championship trophy.
Mira smiled shyly, while Clio grinned widely.
Daisy completely forgot about her promise to Ella, too caught up in her happiness and pride.
After the event, everyone returned to their tents to rest, and the next day was a holiday.
Ella was furious when she found out Victoria had broken the record.
She found Daisy that night, "What's going on? Didn't you promise me?"
Daisy looked helpless, "What could I do? All my tricks were seen through by Victoria. I even tore up the map, but Victoria still remembered the way! And Clio, even when I twisted my ankle, she dragged me along. My foot still hurts!"
Ella impatiently interrupted her, "Those are just excuses!"
Daisy rubbed her ankle, frowning, "Ella, enough already. I didn't even take your money! Who do you think you are?"
With that, she turned and left. She didn't owe Ella anything and was tired and needed rest.
Ella was left stomping her feet in anger.
The next day, Ethan and his friends heard the news.
Their WhatsApp group blew up.
Nick: [@Victoria, you are amazing, breaking our record from back then.]
Roy: [I didn't expect it. I was worried Victoria wouldn't adapt to the training.]
Eric: [I'm impressed. Girls are no less capable than men!]
Nick: [I heard you finished in less than four hours. That's insane!]
Ethan: [Split up?]
Victoria was on the bus back to school and started typing a reply.
Victoria: [You guessed it.]
Nick: [Ethan figured it out in no time with his sharp mind. Why didn't we use this trick back then?]
Ethan: [Didn't need to.]
Eric: [Got it, so Victoria took a detour to get the treasure. Kudos to Victoria.]
Nick: [There's a prize for first place. You have to treat us!]
Victoria: [Sure, you guys always treated me before. It's my turn now. What do you want to eat?]
Roy: [There's a new restaurant that's pretty good.]
Victoria: [I have to go to school to get the reward. Let's meet at school.]
After receiving the prize money, Victoria parted ways with Mira and the others.
Looking at the newly deposited $130,000, Victoria thought of her past life when the Scott family cut off her bank card, forcing her to work hard to make ends meet.
But in this life, she didn't lack money and even broke the record to get the prize. It seemed Lady Luck was on her side.
Ethan and his friends were waiting for Victoria at a small gate.
As soon as they met, Nick rushed up and anxiously asked, "Victoria, I heard you encountered a venomous snake during training. Are you okay?"
Victoria replied, "I'm fine. Otherwise, how could I have the energy to break the record?"
Eric smirked, "Victoria is just showing off."
Victoria raised her chin, her tone proud, "I've got the skills to show off."
Nick laughed, "That's our Hamilton family spirit, even more confident than Samuel."
Victoria said, "Oh, so you're saying Samuel is too confident? I'm telling on you tonight!"
They bantered as they arrived at the restaurant.
This was a restaurant known for its innovative dishes, with an elegant and quiet private room.
One dish came as a big white ball with a silver pot on the side.
Victoria curiously asked, "What's this?"
Ethan turned the dish towards her, "Pour it on."
Victoria tentatively picked up the pot and poured the steaming broth over the white ball.
With a crisp cracking sound, the white ball split open. It turned out to be a chilled chocolate ball that cracked open when hot broth was poured over it, releasing a cloud of white mist.
"Interesting," Victoria said with a curious expression.
As the mist cleared, several fried roses were revealed inside the ball, arranged beautifully.
Ethan asked, "Do you like it?"
Victoria said in a skeptical tone, "It's novel and pretty, but can it taste good?"
Roy chuckled softly, "Ethan specifically ordered it for you, saying that it's popular among girls."
Victoria also chuckled, picked up a deep red petal, and chewed it, nodding, "It's quite crispy, but I still think steak tastes better."
Nick grabbed a flower, tossed it into his mouth and swallowed it, "Not much flavor, definitely not as good as meat. Ethan, I told you our Victoria wouldn't go for this."
Eric said, "Let's toast to our champion!"
The five clinked glasses, and then the topic of the conversation shifted.
