The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 58: Updating Photos
After a crazy busy day, when they were closing up shop and counting the cash, they realized today's earnings were more than the whole last month!
Charlotte checked the books and couldn't stop grinning.
"Great job, everyone! Tomorrow shouldn't be as packed. Let's keep this momentum going for the next three days of our grand opening."
"Got it, Victoria!" Charlotte and Wren were pumped. Sure, it was exhausting, but the money made it all worth it, and they were super happy.
Victoria added, "Charlotte, if things get too crazy in the future, remind me to hire more help."
Charlotte, dreaming about her dessert shop, felt a wave of happiness and nodded, "Don't worry, Victoria."
After locking up, Victoria treated everyone to a fancy dinner, and they ate until they were stuffed before heading home.
Sweet Haven Corner had an awesome opening, and Victoria didn't have much to stress about afterward; she could leave it to Charlotte.
The next day, Victoria headed to the snooker club for practice.
Everyone was buzzing about the club's selection process. The school league was in two weeks, and they needed to pick participants for intense training fast.
In the middle of this, Elise came up to Victoria and said, "Victoria, did you get your glam photo ready?"
Victoria was confused, "What?"
Elise reminded her, "Remember? The Campus Queen contest. You promised me a high-def full-body pic!"
Turned out, when Sweet Haven Corner opened yesterday, a bunch of classmates who saw Victoria voted for her, shooting her into the top three.
And tonight, the second round of eliminations was starting. She needed a new photo; otherwise, her basic ID pic might get her booted.
Victoria had been so busy with the dessert shop that she hadn't prepped a new photo.
Seeing her quiet, Elise pulled up the forum and scrolled to the Campus Queen voting page.
"Victoria, you gotta take this seriously. Your competition is tough. There's last year's Campus Queen, the dance club president Lily, last year's runner-up Adelaide, and even Ella, who's right behind you, isn't a pushover!"
Even though Ella wasn't as drop-dead gorgeous as Victoria in Elise's eyes, her photos were super polished.
Yesterday, not only did Victoria's votes skyrocket, but Ella also gained a ton of votes by treating people. She was still right behind Victoria.
Right then, Ella was staring at the rankings, fuming. Lily and Adelaide were seniors with a fan base, so it made sense they were ahead. But how did Victoria, with that awful ID photo, get so many votes? Were people blind?
For the second round, Ella had prepped a killer dance video, wearing a pink fairy dress and dancing like a dream. She was determined to win this round!
Victoria glanced at Ella's overly edited photo, remembering that in her past life, Ella had taken the Campus Queen contest super seriously and eventually won.
In her sophomore year, a director noticed her, and she starred as the female lead in a famous singer's new music video, playing his first love in school.
After that, she smoothly debuted as Nexus College's Campus Queen, with both brains and beauty.
Victoria didn't care much about the Campus Queen contest, but the thought of beating Ella and seeing her frustration was tempting.
Just then, Calista sent over the developed photos. She'd been delayed by some stuff and only processed Victoria's photos today, mainly editing out or blurring unrelated people.
Elise saw a photo pop up on Victoria's phone and leaned in, "This one's perfect, so gorgeous!"
Victoria had just opened the image. In the photo, she was bathed in sunlight, with tiny facial hairs glistening like a ripe peach. Her eyes sparkled with a gentle smile as she looked at a little leopard cub, and the whole photo was full of life and beauty.
No wonder Calista was a pro photographer, even better than the internet-famous ones Victoria had worked with in her past life!
Actually, that internet-famous photographer had taken money from Ella to mess up Victoria's photos, making her perfect features look stiff and fake, like she'd had plastic surgery. The goal was to make people think she wasn't as pretty as Ella, making it easier to spread news that put Victoria down.
"Great." Victoria was super pleased and casually forwarded the photo to Elise. "Elise, why do you care so much about my ranking?"
Elise sighed and spilled the tea about the long-standing beef between the snooker club and the dance club.
Basically, the dance club always had the upper hand in the looks department, constantly looking down on the snooker club for not having any beauties and never making it into the top three of the Campus Queen contest.
Victoria's appearance changed the game and even gave them a shot at winning the whole thing, which had Elise all hyped up!
Other club members were also voting like crazy for her, wanting to prove a point!
After hanging out in the snooker club for a while, Victoria developed a sense of team pride and decided to go all out for the upcoming talent competition. She wasn't just motivated to beat Ella, but also to bring some glory to the snooker club.
Elise, thrilled with the photo, left happily, humming a tune.
Although Ella hadn't officially joined the snooker club, she put in a ton of effort and even went to the school leadership.
Eventually, she became a logistics staff member for the snooker club, getting closer to Dennis and achieving her goal.
Every time Dennis showed up, Ella would run around, fetching water and towels for everyone, just to impress him.
But Dennis stayed polite yet distant, seemingly unaware of her efforts.
Ella didn't give up, though. She even sneaked into Dennis's rest room, hoping to create a "magical encounter" by appearing suddenly while he was changing clothes.
Coincidentally, Dennis had lent the rest room to someone else. When Ella tried to rush out, she realized it was the wrong person and quickly hid behind the curtains, almost getting caught.
After that, she laid low for a few days.
Today, Dennis announced the league matters, including the internal selection for the snooker club and the need to contact the cheerleading team.
Since the snooker club didn't have a dedicated cheerleading team, Eric found it a hassle and unnecessary. Usually, for competitions, they would get help from the dance club, whose members could easily perform cheerleading routines without needing practice.
Ella volunteered, "I'm from the dance club. Dennis, leave this to me."
Since she hadn't made it into the snooker club, Ella had joined the dance club. Thanks to her dance background and good looks, she joined effortlessly.
Dennis finally looked at her directly. Dealing with the dance club was a headache, so he was relieved to have someone volunteer. "Can you handle it?" he asked.
Ella nodded confidently, "Of course, I can be the lead dancer for the cheerleading team. The dance club members are easy to talk to."
Dennis said, "Alright."
Then, the intense internal selection began.
While Victoria was focused on preparing for the competition, Ella approached her seriously, "Victoria, do you want to join the cheerleading team too? Everyone needs to contribute to the league."
Victoria gave her a cold look. She wanted to participate in the league as a player; the cheerleading team was just for boosting morale. The real honor came from winning the competition.
Seeing her silence, Ella faked an apologetic smile and said, "Sorry, Victoria, I forgot you can't dance. It would be embarrassing if you messed up the routine."
Mira looked at her speechlessly, "Ella, what's your problem? Victoria can compete as a player, why would she join the cheerleading team? Are you crazy?"
Being scolded by Mira, and with other members watching, Ella's face turned pale, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"I was just worried Victoria wouldn't make it into the competition. It's rare for freshmen to be selected. I really hope Victoria can participate in the league, even if it's as part of the cheerleading team."
Noticing Ella's sincere expression and her being bullied to tears, everyone started to speak up for her.
"If you don't want to join, just refuse. Why insult her? Ella is just thinking about our club. Some people are really selfish."
It seemed like Victoria and Mira were really bullying Ella.
Victoria remained expressionless, "If you can't stand me, beat me on the field. Stop with the fake acts."
Those people didn't dare to speak anymore. Except for a few senior students, it was clear that most members weren't a match for Victoria.
