The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 160: I Just Want to Win
Victoria didn't say anything more. With Ethan's personality, if he wanted to join, no one would object.
Nick eagerly stepped up to teach Ethan, getting him to buy a premium account with all the skins unlocked and a fresh friends list, adding only their group.
Since Ethan was a newbie, he started with bot matches to get the hang of the basics. Once he got the hang of it, he would join the others in real matches.
The rest of the group formed a team right away. Victoria checked their profiles and saw that their win rates were impressive, with their main heroes boasting over 80% win rates.
Nick excelled in the marksman role, Roy was great in the top lane, and Eric was the most impressive with several heroes having over 90% win rates, especially in the jungle and mid lane, matching Victoria's level.
After looking at his profile, Victoria gave Eric an extra glance and said, "I'll be the team captain. Anyone have a problem with that?"
Nick raised his hand in agreement, and no one else objected.
They had seen Victoria's match history, and even though she hadn't played in a while, her record was enough to qualify her as captain.
Victoria then stood up and said to Ethan, who was still figuring out the game, "Ethan, start with support heroes. They're easier to learn."
Nick had suggested the same, but Ethan had resisted. However, when Victoria said it, he simply made an "OK" gesture and accepted it quietly.
Despite his pride, Ethan wasn't unreasonable. In areas where he wasn't skilled, he knew it was best to take advice.
Ethan researched and listed out the support heroes, quickly memorizing their abilities.
He watched tutorial videos and practiced in bot matches, soon mastering the essentials of playing support.
As a support, the key tasks were vision control and protecting the damage dealers, with some supports also providing healing, depending on the team composition.
Meanwhile, Victoria and the others played a few matches together, starting to build some team synergy.
Two hours flew by, and Victoria's alarm went off. She released her mouse, stretched, and said, "Two hours are up. Let's take a break, stretch, and review our matches."
The servants brought snacks and drinks, and they chatted while eating.
Nick, holding a soda, walked over to Ethan, who was still focused on training.
Impressed, he said, "Ethan, you're working hard. Let me give you some tips to speed up your progress."
But when he looked at the screen, he saw Ethan taking down opponents. This wasn't a bot match; it was a real game.
Nick frowned and asked, "Ethan, aren't you playing support? How did you get a triple kill as a support?"
Ethan glanced at Nick but didn't respond, continuing to push the tower.
With two arrows, he took down two low-health enemies and then destroyed the enemy crystal, securing the win.
Nick was amazed, "Wow, impressive!"
His exclamation drew everyone's attention. Eric looked at Ethan's hero and said, "That's not a support, Ethan. You're playing a marksman."
The game ended, and Ethan took off his headset, stretching his wrist. "I tried support, but it was too easy. I wanted to try other roles."
Nick protested, "No way, we only have a support spot for you. Stick to support."
Ethan looked up at him, "You play marksman? I want to play marksman. You can play support."
Nick quickly stepped back, shaking his head, "No way, I'm good at marksman."
"Victoria, you're the captain, say something. He just started and already wants to take my role!" Nick looked pleadingly at Victoria.
Victoria shrugged, "Whoever's better gets the role. I just want to win."
Ethan calmly said, "Fine."
Nick gritted his teeth and agreed.
He couldn't believe Ethan could beat him after just a few hours of practice. He was confident in his marksman skills, so they decided to have a marksman duel.
Victoria accidentally spilled her drink and went to the bathroom to clean up. She chatted briefly with Samuel in the living room.
When she returned, the duel was over, and the room was tense. Victoria raised an eyebrow, "Finished? Who won?"
Nick, eyebrows dancing with excitement, said, "I won. Ethan's actually really good. When I first started, I was way worse. But my experience gave me the edge."
Eric nodded slightly, having observed the match.
Ethan's strategic thinking was better than Nick's, but he lacked experience. Given a month of practice, Nick might lose.
Ethan frowned at the screen, analyzing his mistakes. He was determined to do better next time.
Losing to Nick meant he had to play support, which he reluctantly accepted.
Victoria patted his shoulder, "Support is crucial, Ethan. Your steady nature makes you perfect for it. A good support is the backbone of the team, not a burden."
Ethan smiled slightly, looking into Victoria's eyes, "I know. I'll do my best."
He appreciated her encouragement, even if it was just to comfort him.
The five of them then officially formed a team, training together to win the esports championship.
