The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 142: Apologize
Samuel lay on the bed and quickly fell into a deep sleep, not even managing to set an alarm.
The noise outside the igloo when the aurora appeared didn't wake him; it only made him toss and turn a bit.
By the time he woke up, it was almost dawn. Seeing the faint light of morning, Samuel sat up abruptly, washed his face, and went to check on Victoria.
When he saw Victoria sleeping soundly on the bed and Ethan dozing off beside her, the scene was heartwarming, but he couldn't shake a sense of unease.
It didn't feel right to leave Victoria alone with another guy all night, even if it was Ethan.
Samuel walked over with large strides, intending to wake Ethan and send him back to rest.
The sound of the door opening woke Ethan, who was already sleeping lightly in an uncomfortable position.
He lifted his head, stretched his neck, and upon seeing Samuel, whispered, "Hey, Samuel, you're up. Victoria's fever has gone down."
Last night, after Victoria woke up, the two of them watched the aurora together.
As the aurora faded, Victoria softly said, "You should go rest, I'm feeling better now."
Ethan looked at her seriously, "No way, I'll stay until you fall asleep."
Even though Victoria's fever had subsided and her complexion looked normal, he still couldn't relax.
What if she felt uncomfortable in her sleep or got thirsty in the middle of the night with no one to get her water?
Victoria couldn't persuade him and, feeling too weak to argue, let him stay. Feeling somewhat uneasy, she turned over, facing away from Ethan.
What she didn't know was that she tossed and turned in her sleep, even kicking off the blanket.
Ethan gently covered her up, tucking the blanket under her arm, smiling with relief.
It was a good thing he stayed; otherwise, her condition might have worsened by morning.
He watched her, wondering what troubles she had when she frowned in her sleep and what happy dreams she had when she smiled.
As dawn approached, Ethan finally couldn't hold on and fell asleep leaning against the bed. He was woken up by Samuel's arrival.
Hearing the news and seeing Victoria's healthy complexion, Samuel finally felt at ease.
He looked at Ethan's bloodshot eyes and nodded gratefully, "You stayed up all night, thanks. Go get some rest."
Ethan glanced at Victoria reluctantly before getting up and leaving.
Soon, everyone else woke up and was delighted to hear that Victoria was better.
Nick exaggeratedly said, "Victoria, you should have seen Samuel's terrifying expression yesterday. It wasn't my fault you got sick, why was he so mad at me?"
Victoria laughed heartily, "Complaining to me won't help. If you have a problem, take it up with Samuel."
Nick glanced at Samuel, who smiled back at him with a hint of threat, "You're too noisy."
Nick quickly put his hands together in a pleading gesture, "My bad, it's all my fault."
Everyone burst into laughter.
At that moment, Calista came to say goodbye. She had taken the photos she wanted the night before and decided to head back home to process them.
Victoria was surprised, "Calista, you're not coming with us?"
Calista lowered her eyes, "No, I'm sorry." Then she left.
Victoria found Calista's attitude a bit strange and was about to ask if anything had happened while she was sick.
Samuel cleared his throat and said, "I'll be right back." He then got up and followed her out.
Victoria's eyes questioned what was going on between them. Nick shrugged, "I was outside yesterday, so I don't know exactly what happened."
Victoria looked at Ethan, but he had been too focused on her to pay attention to anything else.
Eric guessed, "Maybe Samuel was too anxious yesterday and wasn't nice to Calista. After all, she's a girl, not as thick-skinned as Nick."
Nick protested, "Am I that thick-skinned? But her eyes were a bit red when she came out yesterday, and she switched rooms afterward. Maybe Samuel kicked her out."
Victoria was shocked. Samuel was usually so gentle and easygoing; who knew he could get so worked up over her having a fever?
But now he was probably chasing after Calista to apologize. She hoped Calista would forgive him.
Outside, Samuel quickly caught up with Calista and called out to her. She stopped but didn't turn around.
"Calista, I'm sorry. I was too worried about Victoria yesterday. I know it wasn't your fault; I was being irrational."
Calista smiled bitterly, "I understand." A friend of a few days versus a sister—anyone would know which is more important.
But it still hurt. She didn't have to stay with them. Even if they got along well, they were just passing through each other's lives.
Samuel frowned at her distant tone, as if she was drawing a line between them. He stepped forward to face her, "I want to make it up to you. Are we still friends?"
Calista looked up at him, blinking slowly, "We were just casual friends to begin with. Maybe we'll meet again."
With that, she walked around Samuel and left. She packed her things alone and quickly arranged for a driver and booked a ticket to return home.
