The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 191: Clarification
Victoria glanced over and raised an indifferent eyebrow. "Let them talk. It won't change how I do things."
Ever since she started school, the gossip about her hadn't stopped.
From being photographed with Ethan and his friends on the first day, to becoming the new Campus Queen, and recently, signing up for the gaming tournament with the Charming Four from the computer science department.
Online discussions ranged from praise to slander, but she didn't let it bother her. She had endured far worse online abuse in her previous life.
Mira was seriously reading the comments under the post, her eyes wide with anger.
"Do these people just talk without any evidence? Victoria's clothes are clearly authentic, but no one believes me when I clarify. They even insult me. And Eric is just a friend, why are they spreading rumors that you two are dating? It's infuriating!"
She continued to reply to the post, defending Victoria, but received a flood of private messages full of insults.
Elise also expressed her concern. "It's good that you're strong-minded and not affected by online comments. But you shouldn't let the rumors spread unchecked. You're studying acting and plan to enter the entertainment industry, so your online reputation is quite important."
Victoria thought for a moment and nodded seriously. "Thanks for the reminder. I'll handle this."
Initially, she had played along with Eric just to annoy Ella. She hadn't expected the rumors to persist.
She didn't mind not dating, but she worried it might affect Eric's chances of finding a new girlfriend. So she called Eric, explained the situation, and asked him to clear things up.
Eric agreed readily and posted on the forum using his main account: [Victoria and I are just friends. If anyone continues to spread false rumors, they'll face the consequences.]
He even got the forum admin to pin the post so everyone could see it. He also warned the main rumor spreaders, led by Moira.
The posts slandering Victoria's personal life were quickly deleted, leaving only the doubts about her clothes being fake.
Since Eric was always open about his relationships, his public clarification was quickly believed.
Even Moira, while deleting her posts, felt a mix of fear and relief. If Victoria wasn't Eric's girlfriend, she still had a chance. A guy like Eric was a catch, and when he was single, it was a win for everyone.
Moira didn't actually dislike Victoria or care about what she wore. She was just upset that Eric had a girlfriend, and it wasn't her.
As for the unusual logo on Victoria's clothes, some people speculated it was a custom design, but it was hard to prove, so no one spoke up for her.
Mira fumed, "Last time in class, Natalia questioned your clothes, and her personal shopper confirmed they were authentic. It's a special item for those who spend over a million dollars. Many people heard it, so why aren't they speaking up for you?"
She even suspected Natalia had posted the rumor, pretending to be clueless just to incite people against Victoria.
Victoria looked at the comments doubting her and said calmly, "The personal shopper was just guessing. 'Moonlight' hasn't disclosed which logos are custom designs, so it's normal for people to be skeptical."
Mira wrinkled her nose in frustration. "What should we do then? Should we ask 'Moonlight' headquarters to clarify for you? That seems ridiculous. Would a post from their social media be enough to shut them up?"
Victoria chuckled softly. "I don't know. These clothes were gifts from my mom. I'll ask her about it."
Mira nodded thoughtfully. Victoria's mom was likely a top-tier member of "Moonlight," so maybe the brand would agree to clarify.
During dinner, Victoria casually mentioned that the logo on her clothes seemed different from the one on the official website.
Diana smiled warmly. "Yes, I thought the original 'Moonlight' logo was too plain. So I designed a special one for you. Do you like it?"
Victoria replied sweetly, "Thanks, Mom. Your taste is always so refined. I love it. But some people at school think my clothes are fake because the logo is different."
Diana's smile vanished. Her precious daughter was being wronged at school!
But before she could speak, David slammed his utensils on the table. "Ridiculous! My daughter wearing fake clothes? Impossible!"
It was the first time Victoria had seen David angry in front of her. She was so surprised that the piece of meat on her fork fell back onto her plate.
Diana noticed Victoria's shock and glared at David, scolding him, "Why are you shouting? You scared our daughter."
David quickly calmed down and said gently, "Don't worry, sweetheart. I'll call 'Moonlight' headquarters right away and have them post about the custom logo on all their social media platforms. That way, no one will misunderstand you."
Diana nodded firmly and added another piece of meat to Victoria's plate.
"That's right. I spent millions to ensure my daughter wears unique clothes. Only about ten people nationwide can get this custom logo. We don't flaunt it, but we won't let others slander us either."
