The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 20: The Hero Saves the Beauty
In her past life, Victoria had always been kind to everyone, yet no one believed her. The slander she faced back then was way worse than this. She figured she might as well be the villain; at least people would think twice before messing with her!
Anyway, this time it wasn't her who took the fall. Seeing Ella in pain actually made her feel a bit satisfied.
Ella, with tears in her eyes, said, "Victoria, what happened to you? How did you turn out like this? You weren't like this before."
'What's going on? Victoria wasn't like this in the previous life. She should be trying to please me, hoping Dad and Mom would share some of their affection with her. Could it be because she left the Scott family and suffered outside? Is that why her personality has changed so much?' Ella wondered.
Natalia and Lila tried to comfort Ella. "Ella, don't cry. Don't waste your tears on this nasty woman. She doesn't deserve to be your sister!"
The students were buzzing with gossip. "Wow, it's the first time I've seen someone bully others so blatantly, and she's not even the real heiress!"
"I think she looks pretty badass when she talks tough."
"Come on, you're just swayed by her looks. This is real life, not some TV drama!"
"Yeah, in real life, I'd rather be friends with someone kind, harmless, and generous like Ella."
Just then, a supply vehicle for the freshmen rolled by.
Dennis, sitting in the passenger seat, spotted Victoria in the crowd, her beauty catching his eye.
A student council member asked, "What's going on up ahead? Why is there a crowd?"
Dennis said, "Stop for a moment. I'll go check it out."
He walked over and asked, "What's happening here?"
Seeing Dennis approach, Ella's eyes lit up. She thought, 'Perfect timing.' She tugged Natalia's sleeve, signaling her to explain.
Natalia, quick on the uptake, shouted to Dennis, "Dennis, Victoria deliberately stepped on Ella, making her fall and get hurt!"
Dennis looked at Ella's foot, which was indeed swollen. He then looked at Victoria, waiting for her to explain.
Victoria couldn't care less. "Yeah, I stepped on her; so what?"
Natalia pointed at Victoria, her face flushed with anger. "Look at her, not a hint of guilt! I'm telling the instructor! She needs to be punished!"
Ella tugged Natalia's sleeve and softly said, "Forget it."
After speaking, she tried to stand up but couldn't because of the pain in her foot, and Natalia couldn't support her enough.
Ella's eyes filled with tears, glistening as she looked at Dennis.
Dennis frowned. As the student council president, he couldn't just stand by.
So, he walked over and helped Ella up. "Can you walk?"
Ella's cheeks turned slightly red. "Thank you, Dennis. It hurts so much."
Saying this, she leaned towards Dennis's shoulder.
Dennis held her shoulders to keep a distance, saying politely, "Be careful, go rest in the supply vehicle. I'll explain to your instructor later."
Ella said, "Okay, thank you. I really want to be like everyone else, not get special treatment."
Dennis said, "Alright, it was an accident. Everyone, disperse."
Before getting in the car, Ella gave Victoria a triumphant look.
Ella didn't manage to catch Dennis's eye at the welcome party, but today he came to her on his own.
He was so attentive and gave her special treatment. He must be into her.
Ella thought, 'Victoria, so what if you didn't fall? Dennis still noticed me. Even though I fell, I got Dennis's attention. This round, I won!'
Ella fixed her slightly messy bangs in the mirror, determined to keep up her image in front of Dennis. He could be very useful to her.
But after getting Ella to the car, Dennis walked over to Victoria.
He asked with concern, "Victoria, are you hurt?"
Victoria was about to leave but gave Dennis a strange look when he asked, "I'm fine, Dennis. You should be more worried about the person in the car."
In her previous life, Dennis and Ella were a couple. It seemed like this life was no different. Victoria didn't want to get involved in someone else's relationship.
Dennis explained, "I believe you have your reasons. Just try not to be so harsh next time; it's easy to be misunderstood."
"Thanks," Victoria said, thinking, 'Thanks for believing in me. You're a good person, but it doesn't matter anymore.'
Victoria waved and continued running towards her destination.
By the time Victoria arrived, it was almost noon. The sun was high, and she was sweating, her cheeks flushed.
Ella, who had arrived earlier by car, was handing out water and food to others with the student council members.
Everyone praised Ella for her beauty and kindness.
Victoria remembered that in her previous life, after falling and hitting her head, Dennis had also wanted to call her to the car.
But Ella had said, "If it were me, I would definitely insist on running with everyone, not enjoying special privileges." This had made Victoria run the entire course, and her wound got infected.
What a self-inflicted hardship. Look at Ella, saying one thing and doing another, so comfortable.
At that moment, Dennis came over and handed Victoria a sports drink. "You must be exhausted. You're tougher than you look."
"Thank you," Victoria said, taking the drink. She was about to get some water anyway, so she didn't refuse.
Ella, chatting happily with others, saw Dennis talking to Victoria out of the corner of her eye and immediately hopped over.
Holding Dennis's arm, she said, "Victoria, you're here. Why didn't you get some water? Did you bring your drink?"
Dennis wanted to shake off her hand but his manners didn't allow it, so he said coldly, "I gave it to her."
Ella smiled awkwardly. "Dennis, you're so kind!"
Victoria didn't want to be involved. "If there's nothing else, I'll be going."
She left without any hesitation.
Ella, holding Dennis's arm, returned to the student council's distribution area.
Everyone teased. "Ella was in such a hurry because she saw Dennis coming back."
"A hero saving a beauty; looks like someone is smitten. I don't stand a chance."
Ella covered her mouth, laughing, and shyly glanced at Dennis. "Don't tease me."
Dennis, looking serious, patted his sleeve after seating her. "What nonsense are you talking about? If you're so idle, go move the remaining water over here."
Everyone scattered.
