The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 141: The Aurora

Soon, Samuel and the others found out that Victoria was sick. No one was eating, and they all rushed over.

The igloo wasn't big, so only Samuel went inside while Nick paced anxiously outside, constantly asking, "How's Victoria? Should we take her back to the city to a hospital? But it would take a whole day to get back, and it's already dark..."

But no one paid attention to him. Samuel, still furious, yelled at him to stop making noise, saying that worrying wouldn't make her better.

Samuel looked at Victoria lying on the bed with concern and couldn't help but glance at Calista beside him, his eyes showing some misplaced anger.

He didn't say anything, but Calista noticed. She lowered her head and said, "I'm sorry, it's all my fault. If it weren't for me, Victoria wouldn't have changed the itinerary."

Samuel didn't look at her, but his tone was harsh. "It's not your fault. I shouldn't have agreed to it."

In truth, Samuel's anger was misplaced. No one could have predicted that Victoria would fall ill. She wasn't usually frail.

Just a couple of days ago, she had fought fiercely, and Samuel was amazed that she had taken on five men and won.

So when Victoria suggested changing the itinerary, he didn't oppose it completely.

Calista knew rationally that it wasn't her fault, but Victoria and the others had helped her, and now Victoria was sick because she wanted to accompany her. She couldn't help but feel guilty.

Samuel's cold attitude made her throat tighten, unable to speak.

Ethan was focused on giving Victoria her medicine, his eyes only on her, ignoring everyone else.

Finally, after the last spoonful, Ethan checked Victoria's forehead. Her temperature had dropped a bit, and the medicine seemed to be working.

With Victoria's condition improving, Samuel's expression softened a bit. He told Calista, "You should go eat something. If you don't eat, you won't hold up either."

"What about you guys?" Calista asked.

Samuel replied, "We'll stay with her a bit longer. Tell the others outside to eat first. Also, could you switch rooms tonight? We need to stay here to take care of Victoria."

Calista wanted to say that as a girl, she could take better care of Victoria, but seeing the distrust in the two men's faces, she hesitated and left quietly.

Samuel and Ethan stayed by Victoria's side. Her temperature had returned to normal, but she hadn't woken up yet. Nick brought them some food, and they forced down a few bites.

By the middle of the night, Nick and Eric came to persuade them, "You guys should rest. We'll take over. The polar region isn't like other places. If Victoria gets better tomorrow, you don't want to be the ones who fall ill."

Ethan, his voice hoarse, said, "Samuel, you should rest first. I can hold on a bit longer."

Samuel looked between them and decided he trusted Ethan more. He patted Ethan's shoulder, "Alright, I'll crash for a couple of hours. Wake me up to take over."

Ethan nodded, but he didn't really keep track of the time. He just wanted to stay with Victoria until she was fully recovered.

The night was dark and quiet. Ethan sat by the bed, staring at Victoria without blinking. Why wasn't she waking up?

The igloo's roof was transparent, and if he looked up, he would see that there was no moon tonight, only a few stars scattered across the sky.

Around two in the morning, a faint purple glow appeared on the horizon, flickering and slowly expanding.

It was interspersed with shades of green and crimson, pulsing like a breath.

Someone outside shouted excitedly, "The aurora! It's the aurora! So beautiful."

The camp buzzed with activity as many people got up to see the aurora. Photographers had already set up their tripods and started shooting, Calista among them.

Although she was concerned about Victoria, capturing the aurora was the purpose of her trip, and she wouldn't let her emotions interfere with her work.

Ethan was startled awake by the commotion and realized that the igloo was now bathed in a beautiful mix of blue and purple light from the aurora shining through the ice-brick roof. It was dreamy and stunning.

He had accidentally fallen asleep while sitting there, holding Victoria's hand.

He looked at Victoria again and saw that she had woken up at some point, her big eyes looking at him with a smile. "Open the curtains for me. I want to see the aurora," she said.

Ethan was momentarily stunned before getting up to pull the curtains.

Victoria had only woken up a few minutes earlier and was debating whether to wake Ethan. Who would have thought that the aurora they had been chasing for so long would appear now?

After pulling the curtains, Ethan asked if she was thirsty and wanted some water. Victoria nodded gently.

Although Ethan had been moisturizing her lips, her throat was still dry. After drinking half a cup of warm honey water, Victoria's throat felt much better.

She softly said, "Thank you for taking care of me today."

Ethan looked at her, slowly blinking his dry eyes, and said in a deep voice, "It's my duty."

Hearing his voice, which was even hoarser than hers, Victoria quickly handed him the water cup, urging him to drink.

Ethan glanced at the cup, noticing the moist mark left by Victoria, and smiled meaningfully.

He turned the cup and took a few sips of the honey water, finding it even sweeter because she had drunk from it.

The two of them, one lying down and the other sitting, quietly admired the breathtaking aurora.

Victoria suddenly thought, 'If a person's life were as beautiful yet fleeting as the aurora, would it be worth it?'
