The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 167: Why Is It You?
Jasmine followed the servant into the kitchen and watched as she took out some coffee beans from the cabinet.
Casually, she asked, "What kind of coffee is that? Can you make me a cup too?"
The servant smiled politely and replied, "This is Saint Helena Coffee. I'll make Mr. Hamilton's first and then I'll prepare one for you, Ms. Murphy."
"No rush. If it's for Mr. Hamilton, go ahead and take care of that first," Jasmine said sweetly.
She had seen Samuel go into his study on the second floor and had been waiting in the living room for this moment.
While the servant was busy making the coffee, Jasmine pretended to get some milk from the fridge.
She deliberately chose a glass cup, filled it with milk, and put it in the microwave to heat up.
When she saw the servant was about to take the coffee away, she quickly opened the microwave and reached for the cup.
"Ouch, it's hot!" Jasmine exclaimed as the glass cup slipped from her hand and shattered on the floor, spilling milk everywhere.
The servant paused, setting the tray back on the table, and looked at Jasmine with concern. "Ms. Murphy, are you alright?"
Jasmine held out her slightly reddened fingers, which showed no signs of a burn since the milk was only warm, not hot.
Still, she spoke with a tearful voice, "I'm fine, I just made a mess. Please tell me how to clean it up, I can do it myself."
There was no way the servant would let a guest clean up, so she quickly grabbed a cloth, picked up the broken glass, and wiped up the spilled milk.
In that brief minute, while thanking the servant, Jasmine discreetly opened the coffee cup lid and poured in a red aphrodisiac powder.
The powder dissolved quickly without changing the coffee's color or smell.
The servant, unaware, finished cleaning and took the coffee upstairs.
Humming a tune, Jasmine grabbed a chilled white grape sparkling wine, low in alcohol and sweet with a fruity flavor.
She returned to the living room with her wine glass, seeing Victoria still being pestered by Tony.
Smiling smugly, she took a sip. 'Victoria, even if you suspect me, I can still carry out my plan,' she thought.
She relaxed on the sofa and sent Tony a message.
Victoria finally got rid of Tony and looked downstairs to see Jasmine still sitting on the same sofa, watching the same silly soap opera on the big screen TV.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but Victoria felt something was off. Jasmine seemed much happier than before.
She noticed a new wine glass on the table, filled with a clear amber liquid, and an ice bucket beside it.
Maybe the wine improved her mood? That seemed reasonable.
Just then, the servant came out of the study after delivering the coffee and was about to go downstairs when she saw Victoria.
"Good evening, Ms. Hamilton," she greeted respectfully.
Victoria suddenly became alert. "Did you just come from Samuel's study?"
"Yes, Ms. Hamilton. I just brought Mr. Hamilton his coffee."
Victoria quickly pieced it together. Tony had distracted her on purpose to block her view. During that time, Jasmine must have done something to Samuel's coffee.
She hurried to the study, knocked on the door, and asked, "Samuel, can I come in?"
Without waiting for a response, she pushed the door open.
Samuel was holding the coffee cup, about to take a sip. Both he and Ethan, who was sitting across from him, looked at her in surprise.
Victoria immediately noticed the coffee cup in Samuel's hand and rushed over to grab it. "Samuel, did you drink this coffee?" she asked anxiously.
Samuel looked puzzled. "Not yet. What's the matter?"
Victoria let out a sigh of relief. "Good, don't drink it. I think the water is dirty." She poured out the coffee and took the coffee pot with her.
She couldn't be sure if Jasmine had tampered with the pot, so she couldn't say anything directly.
If there was no drug in the coffee, Jasmine would play the victim and claim she was being falsely accused.
Victoria was so focused on Samuel that she completely ignored Ethan.
He looked at his half-finished coffee cup and then at Victoria's hurried departure, seemingly putting the pieces together.
Samuel smiled wryly. "Sorry about that. My sister can be a bit impulsive. Let's continue discussing the Sunhaven project."
It turned out that Ethan was there to discuss a recent policy in Sunhaven that could potentially impact Samuel's investment strategy.
Victoria took the coffee pot to her room, saving a bit of the coffee as evidence.
It wasn't the right time, but once the storm passed, she would have the coffee tested to see what Jasmine had planned for Samuel.
She poured out the rest of the coffee and went to check on Jasmine.
Jasmine, unaware that her plan had failed, was happily drinking wine and watching TV.
Satisfied, Victoria returned to her room for a bath. She had been watching Jasmine for so long that her legs were sore.
After her bath, Victoria's face was glowing. She put on a light yellow nightgown and was about to dry her hair when she felt a pang of worry.
What if Jasmine had another trick up her sleeve and went to see Samuel tonight?
Unable to shake the thought, Victoria threw on a coat and left her room with her hair still damp.
At this time of night, Samuel was usually in his study, so she made her way there directly.
The study light was on, and the door was unlocked.
Just as Victoria was about to knock, the door handle turned, and a strong hand reached out.
Victoria looked up, trying to see his face, but before she could, she was pulled into a warm embrace.
Through the thin silk shirt, she felt the man's firm chest and the strong, rhythmic beating of his heart.
He was hot, and the usual cool cedar scent on him now smelled like burning wood, dry and fragrant.
In those few seconds in his arms, Victoria's mind raced, but she quickly struggled. "Let go of me!"
The water from her hair quickly soaked his shirt, the coolness calming him a bit.
His throat felt less parched, but her hair brushing against his neck made him itch.
He let out a low, pained groan and growled, "Victoria, stop moving!"
Her cool, soft body against his eased his discomfort, but her movements only fueled his desire.
Victoria couldn't tell who he was, but she knew he wasn't Samuel. Jasmine's drug must have affected him instead.
She forced herself to stay still and slowly looked up.
Under the warm light of the study, she saw a very tempting face.
Swallowing hard, she whispered, "Why is it you?"
