The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 156: Team Up
Victoria left the voice room, and the three remaining girls continued to badmouth her.
Midway through their rant, Vivian suddenly asked, "Jasmine, why were you so nice to him at first?"
Ella paused her tirade as well, curious because Jasmine wasn't usually so mild-mannered.
Jasmine cleared her throat and said, "Did you know there's an esports tournament next semester? I wanted to sign up, and I thought he seemed pretty skilled, so I was considering asking him to team up with me."
"But since he's got a bad reputation and his account is bought, he probably isn't that good after all."
Vivian jumped in excitedly, "I know! They say the winning team gets to cosplay as game characters and shoot a promotional MV. 'Glory' is the top gaming company in the country, and even celebrities are proud to shoot promos for them."
Ella's eyes lit up at the mention. Although her gaming skills were subpar, if her teammates were strong, she could still snag a support role on the champion team.
The promotional opportunity could launch her as an esports goddess, attracting a huge following of both male and female fans.
Jasmine confidently said, "Exactly, I want to win the championship. I'm planning to sign up. What about you guys?"
Her goal was clear—she participated in all high-profile school events and aimed to place well. These achievements would lay a solid foundation for her future in the entertainment industry.
Ella wanted to join but knew her skills were lacking, so she offered, "I'm not that great, so I'll just play support in the tournament. Then we can find a few skilled players to team up with and start practicing early."
Vivian, aware of her own limitations, joked, "If I joined, I'd probably drag you down. I'll just cheer you on from the sidelines."
Jasmine didn't respond immediately. In truth, she didn't even want to bring Ella along, considering her a liability.
But since they were ostensibly good friends, she had to accept her as a support player. Fortunately, the support role wasn't too critical.
However, she was determined to carefully select the remaining three teammates, even if it meant paying them.
Vivian was sensible enough to bow out voluntarily, sparing Jasmine the trouble of finding an excuse to reject her.
Just then, Ethan finished a game of snooker and approached the esports room, intending to knock.
He had seen Victoria enter the room earlier and wondered what she had been doing for so long.
As he raised his hand to knock, the door opened. They were standing close, and Victoria could only see his clean-shaven, smooth chin.
She looked up at him with a questioning gaze.
Ethan stepped back and asked, "What were you doing in there for so long?"
Victoria, feeling thirsty, was heading out to get some water. As she walked towards the fridge, she replied, "Just playing a game. Do you play 'Glory'?"
Ethan shook his head. He occasionally played games, but they were usually single-player or two-player games. "Glory" was too social and noisy for his taste.
Victoria took a sip of sparkling water and said regretfully, "That's too bad. My current teammates are all random matches, so it's a bit of a gamble. If you guys played with me, I'd definitely lead us to victory every time."
Nick overheard and laughed heartily, "Victoria, you're pretty confident! Ethan doesn't play, but the three of us do. We'll see if you're just talking big once we get in the game."
Eric, leaning casually against the snooker table, glanced at Victoria with interest. He remembered how confident and charming she looked riding a reindeer before.
He quickly looked away and said nonchalantly, "I've never seen a girl who plays better than me."
Victoria placed her cup on the table, flicked her fingers, and watched the bubbles rise to the surface. She raised an eyebrow and said, "Well, now you have."
Nick laughed even louder, pounding the table and pointing at Victoria, "I thought I was the most arrogant in the Hamilton family, but Victoria, you're even more arrogant than me!"
Ethan rolled his eyes at him, "Quiet down, you're too loud."
Roy grabbed a beer and sat down, smiling, "Maybe Victoria is one of those rare girls who's really good at games. Speaking of 'Glory,' there's a college tournament next semester. Are you guys interested in joining?"
Victoria recalled seeing a pop-up about the tournament when she logged into the game earlier. She hadn't paid much attention then, but Roy's reminder brought it back to her.
In her previous life, Jasmine had shot a promotional video for the game, which had gone viral. Jasmine was dubbed the "esports goddess" by netizens, admired for her good looks, wealthy background, and gaming skills.
Eric said, "Yeah, I heard the winning team gets invited by 'Glory' to cosplay as game characters and shoot an MV. A lot of people in our college have signed up, and some are even using it as an opportunity to ask out girls they like."
Indeed, in her previous life, Jasmine had participated in the tournament and won.
During their recent match, Jasmine had played the jungler role and showed some skill, but she was nowhere near Victoria's level.
In her past life, Victoria had been too busy with part-time jobs to play games or join the tournament.
But now, she had the time and ready-made teammates. She looked around at the guys and smiled, "I want to join. Do you guys want to team up?"
